I was like a hog roasting in a hot oven! This morning was up to temperature. Session 2 in the Fire House in the early afternoon... Much busier and more uncouth people disturbing the peace with their very annoying whispering. I came here with a group of girlfriends for my friend's birthday, and none of us had been to a Korean spa before. Honestly, it was confusing from the start. There wasn't much direction on where to go, what order to do things in, how the facilities worked, or what you were supposed to do if you booked extra services. We also came with one guy and a group of girls, so we didn't realize right away that we'd all be separated. Between that, people going off for body scrubs or massages, and everyone trying to figure it out as we went, I don't think we used the spa the way it was meant to be used at all. We ended up kind of bouncing around, asking what to do next, hanging out in the common area for a bit, and then leaving. The actual body scrub/massage add-on was fine, but overall it just felt disorganized and not very beginner-friendly. I've since seen friends go back and actually know what they're doing -- using the pools, sauna rooms, eating afterward, spending real time there -- and I can see how it could be a much better experience if you know the flow. But for a first-timer, especially with a group, I wish there had been a little more guidance.

Where do I begin with Sarah? This is my second series of medical massages with Sarah (last time 5…read moreyears ago) and was so glad to see Sarah even still in the business when my ongoing pinched nerve in my neck really wrecked my life about 5 months ago. I should have immediately phoned her, and I finally did a few months ago and she was like a human X-ray as she scanned me up and down on our first visit. She had my poor posture analyzed. She is also finding anxiety issues and ADHD issues just by her hands-on massages, so there is a mental component to this pain that only she has figured out. Not my doctor, not my personal trainer, not my physical therapist. Only Sarah. And now I can take that 'diagnosis' to a mental health specialist and work on my ADHD. I don't even call her my 'massage therapist'. I refer to her as my 'healer' and yes, after the first visit, I felt like I was hit by a bus (because I've been neglecting my body and what it needs for too long). But after the second or third day? I was able to finally sleep without having to weirdly prop my body up with three pillows to find the EXACT angle so my left arm wasn't on fire all night. I'm enjoying life again. For months I couldn't attend concerts (tried and nearly had a mental breakdown) or enjoy the beach or enjoy my yardwork (which actually triggered this latest pain bout). Am I out of the woods? Far from it. Which is why I've been going regularly and need to 'do my homework' of stretching and cardio to not have her keep fixing the same problems. Is it expensive? Well, isn't life? If I could write a check for $10,000 or $20,000 to have this pain stop, would I? Absolutely. Chronic pain is very debilitating and depressing. Was it all Sarah, or did my meds and PT and gym regimen finally kick in? I don't know. All I know is that by Day 3 after the INITIAL visit with Sarah, I was a new man. I have a watch that tracks my sleep score. It went up. A lot. So medical massages need to be part of ALL of our lives. If I ever get this pain situation under control, I will STILL continue with Sarah once or twice a month. Don't let it get away from you. This should be covered under insurance and maybe someday it will be, because it is by far the most important phone call I made during my last 6 months of hell. But now, I'm going to see the Oasis reunion concert this weekend, I danced HARD to a reggae band a few days ago, I'm doing yardwork, and enjoying and appreciating life again. We talk a lot during our two hour sessions, and she's also got my mind and perspective in a better place. If you need pain management and posture analysis, go to Sarah. Run to Sarah. She's a HEALER. An actual healer.

What made it different and exceptional? Rather than focusing on making me feel "good/better", Tina and Lucy (management) have trained their team to (1) listen and (2) try to solve the problem at the source!! Since my issues relate to having spent way too much time in a car and in front of a computer, I have always asked massage therapists to focus on the problem area : hip and legs. This was the first time I was told "no"!! "I cannot fix your problem if you don't let my work on your back" - I was mildly offended but figured they got points for being direct. See this : after my third massage in a week at Heaven Spa today (after a 25 mile run) with Linda I can honestly say that the SOURCE of my pains in now 90% fixed!! Linda is also by far the most talented back-walker I have ever had - I cannot express the excitement and gratitude I feel being able to touch my toes without pain after more than a decade. I was helped right away into a room and was then greeted by Vicki, the masseuse. She asked if I had any problems areas, which I did. The best part was releasing the knots and tightness in my neck and shoulders. She knows exactly what she's doing. Her gentle and fluid motions were so relaxing, and I also appreciated the stretching.
