Upon my arrival, I approached the front desk where a young woman & a young man, seemingly staff members based on their uniforms, were deeply engaged in a conversation at the back of the reception area. After waiting for a few minutes without acknowledgment, I had to interrupt them to express my interest in joining. The response I received was disturbing, to say the least. Instead of a warm welcome or inquiries like "Glad to have you here" or questions about my reasons for choosing Planet Fitness, previous visits to this location, familiarity with their equipment, or interest in a tour (which I would have appreciated), the young woman immediately asked if I had my routing and account number. This abrupt and impersonal approach, as her opening words, made a lasting and decidedly negative impression on me. I turned and began to leave but then returned to the desk because I had promised my partner that I would join, I was then informed that I could use the app to join, and when I declined, I was handed an iPad to fill out my information. This process redirected me to an email and then an online app. She could have just told me this, avoiding the task of populating my information multiple times. Throughout my time filling out the form, the staff members returned to their casual conversation, ignoring me and not asking another question. I finished the form, turned and left without a word from them. This experience left me feeling undervalued as a new member and EXTREMELY dissatisfied with the level of professionalism and customer engagement displayed by these Waterford CT Planet Fitness employees. While it might seem unreasonable to voice my concerns given the minimal membership fee of $10 per month, I can't help but surmise that such a nominal charge indicates a glaring absence of investment in staff training, particularly in the crucial area of customer service. The cost-effective pricing model has resulted in a scenario where the front-line staff, who are expected to be the face of the brand, demonstrate a notable shortfall in fundamental customer service skills and abilities. My experience has left me considerably disillusioned with PF as an organization, but it is CHEAP. It's disheartening to witness how these impersonal and uncaring representatives, who should ideally embody the company's values and ethos, fall short of delivering even the most minimal level of customer interaction and satisfaction. This situation not only reflects poorly on the company's training regimen but also raises questions about the organization's overall commitment to quality and customer experience.

Parking is available in the surrounding lots as long as the stall is unmarked. Parking during noon is a bit difficult but after 3pm parking is open. This gym offers an assortment of machines (smith machine, weight machines, ellipticals, treadmills, etc.), a free weight section, a matted workout area, and an open dance floor for group events. There's also a running track on the third floor. For some reason this gym is WAY emptier than the gym in Morton Hall. The machines are almost always open, and the ventilation is better in comparison. There's also a water bottle refill station in the left corner and a coat rack on the right corner. During my visits I've seen group classes such as spin, free weight drills, and Zumba. I've also seen a masseuse once! Ask the ladies working at the check in table for a schedule.

You'll need your military ID to gain access to the facility. They have an assortment of classes, from HIIT to cycling. The layout of the gym looks like a converted basketball court. My best description is Planet Fitness' step sister. It's clean, friendly staff, and an abundance of workout equipment. Things that may matter: - free weights don't exceed 75lbs - only 4 benches (tends to get congested) - only one smith machine - two cable machines - 20 treadmills (+/- I didn't really count lol) - USUALLY EMPTY (every time I've went, maybe 10 people there who were actually using the equipment not taking a class) It's a basic gym that has everything you need to get a good work out in. Mostly women go there, so, for those ladies that feel intimidated by the male infested Morton's gym, try this one.

There is no way to tell which classes will be heated ahead of time and there is no way to email the center to ask questions about the classes because the online "contact us" form on the website is designed so you can't read what you are writing. The people at the desk don't know anything about the classes. The new online calendar is difficult to even find classes and there is no longer a printable class schedule. Not so zen lately. Hope it gets better!

First, Axel is a wonderful trainer. As an orthopedic surgeon, he brings expertise on many levels - fitness, PT, injury/weakness awareness. He can customize any program for any fitness level. Axel has a lot of knowledge about nuitrition as well. also, I have been there often enough to observe the others trainers as well (Joyce, Iain, Paul), and they are also excellent. Highly trained & experienced. The gym is exceptionally clean, probably the cleanest gym in SE CT. The covid cleaning / sanitizing has been outstanding. Joining AT / Niantic was the smartest and best decision I ever made for myself and my health. It's fun to go, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, no worries about covid infection here. We have been members since Planet Fitness opened in Groton next to Big Y - many years! For the past…read moremonth or so, the number of machines out of service is 2-4 times as many as in past years. And the same machines visit after visit, indicating a lack of attention by management. I am wondering if the recent $2 million fine for the owner of this PF and 139 others for fraudulently obtaining payroll relief during the pandemic is causing the owner to shortchange basic maintenance. The timing of this neglect is bad as there is a normal spike in membership and usage after the holidays at the same time there are fewer machines available. I've read the response on Google from the owner and note that I have spoken to staff multiple times, not manager as she seems to be avoiding the facility the past couple of months, in contrast with the past when she was there almost every visit. Staff told me that equipment under warranty and waiting for manufacturer to come and fix. CAN'T BE TRUE: In the past an employee of the chain was there regularly fixing equipment, but haven't seen him in a long, long time. Re Warranty - NOT CREDIBLE - equipment has been there for several years, well beyond any likely warranty. None of this, the owner's answer, staff responses, absence of manager gives me any hope that things will get fixed!

Out of the four that I go to, the Groton Planet fitness is my favorite. It's the cleanest and the staff are very professional. I go there all different hours because my work is inconsistent so I try to get gym time in when I can. I've seen the supervisor inspecting equipments, staff actually giving tours of the facilities (when I asked another Planet Fitness location for a tour, he stood in one spot half heartedly telling where things are), staff at Groton clean often, the ladies bathroom is clean, staff giving customers information, and they greet you. Other gyms, not going to say which one, the counter hasn't been cleaned in the ladies room and I see hair particles everywhere, the counter looked greasy, no clue why it's greasy, could be hair products or lotion, the bathroom doesn't have toilet paper, soap runs out. You don't see those issues at the Groton planet fitness. I feel comfortable putting my things on the counter as I get ready to work out. One time the paper towel dispenser was slow coming out, the next time I went there, it was replaced or they fixed it. (Attentive to maintenance) I still go to other locations because the equipments are different and I like change oddly enough but overall- hands down to the Groton Planet Fitness team for taking such good care of this location. I appreciate the cleanliness, professionalism, and that you guys create a welcoming environment for members. Thank you Groton team.

Yes, the building AC and the sauna in the men's locker room were down, but I didn't come for the sauna and the temperature at 5:30-7:00 AM was very agreeable for this time of year. They have a great NOFFS (Navy Operational Fitness & Fueling System) circuit, which has a really good training program. Very nice. The indoor track was great and they offer a huge array of Life Fitness equipment inside. The free weights were very nice. I mainly used the NOFFS side and the dumbbells. I really enjoyed this facility and will visit again as soon as I return to the area. It was never very crowded at my early hours and I never had to wait for any weights or equipment. Who does that?! If I'm canceling my membership, it could be for many different reasons. What if I can no longer afford the membership? You're doing to still charge me an additional month?! I would never refer this gym to anyone! Also, I went there some months back with my son who is 13. The guy working there at the time said it was illegal for minors to be in the gym under 16. Which I know is a lie. I went back later to cancel my membership and the lady was trying to talk to me about memberships for minors, she said he is able to come but he would need a membership, which costs the same as my membership. I am not paying over $40 for a membership for my minor son. this place is ridiculous!! Do not bother!
