Never dreamed I would ever review a hair salon , but the time has come . So I've spent years trying to find the right place to get my hair cut . I'm a guy who grew up in the seventies and my hair needs are pretty simple . I've tried places on the low end which were hit and miss . I swore off barbers when some kid with a backwards Oakland A'S hat , gave me a haircut out of Full Metal Jacket. I've tried high end places where you can get a master stylist , a glass of wine or gourmet coffee and an Italian cookie , but I don't want to have to increase my credit limit just to get a haircut . So I read review after review and finally found my holy grail of Hair Salons,Renaissance hair.The salon is classy , but the reason for the review is Rachel,who just killed it with my hair cut . Told her what I was looking for and she went to work . A haircut , with scissors ,not a razor with my initials carved into the side of my head . Got my hair died on March 21st, had it done purple and blue and paid over $220 plus a $40 tip. The color was nice for about 2 weeks, by week 3 the purple completely washed out. I then called to speak to someone about this and why it washed out so fast. The lady who answered informed me that i should have been given a care packet regarding how to care for my hair and I never did. I was also told they don't guarantee hair color and asked how long it has been. Once I informed the lady it was 3 week after she then said they only guarantee for 2 weeks. Don't understand how the story changed once I said how long it was. Then she continued to yell saying I got what I paid for and she isn't dealing with it then hung up one me. I attempted to call back and the manager refused to take my call and I was hung up on again. I will never go here again and am considering small claims court. I paid for purple highlights and I got blond plus an attitude and disregard for being a customer. read more

I will not be back to this salon. Made an appointment for an updo. Showed her the simplest hairstyle and she completely butchered my hair. The stylist knew i was unhappy so she asked if there was anything i wanted her to change unfortunately it was the entire hairstyle and i did not have time to sit for another 45 minutes for another disappointment. Of course she still charged me 85 dollars for it! After i left I immediately took the whole thing out and did my own the blonde updo is what i asked for the other picture is what she did. I had gotten a Groupon as a gift for a cut and single process color. Beware because the "single process color" part is NOT a color, but only a root touch up which they don't tell you on the Groupon, but they do charge you an extra $30 for it in the salon. They chopped my hair way shorter than I asked, and UNEVEN. And the color is much darker than I had asked for. The whole thing was so fast and I felt so rushed. I left there hysterically crying because I was so upset and how short she had made my hair. On top of the extra $30 charge as if the $50 Groupon wasn't enough!! On top of that, it was dirty and disgusti, the sink they put me at was filthy with hair already in and around it! Edit: it turns out my hair still has other colors in it, as well as being UNEVEN. So not only has my hair been butchered in the hour I was there, it isn't even colored properly. And I found a picture I had taken over the sink before realizing how disgusting it was as proof of how filthy this place also is. Shameful!! read more

Love this place! I've been going here to get my hair cut for years. I have always requested Jessica, the owner of Renaissance Salon, to cut my hair. I have to say, she does an outstanding job with men's haircuts. She is so friendly, talented, patient, and understanding when it comes to what type of haircut you want. She listens to you and goes above and beyond to make sure all of her clients are completely satisfied with their haircuts. The people here are extremely nice but the dye job on my hair was horrible. I have dark brown hair and asked for subtle ombre to a lighter brown, with no color above my earline. It turned out brassy orange and looked like my roots had grown out because the color was way too high and splotchy in random places. It was a waste of $100 and I had it immediately fixed by another salon the next morning. I won't be going back. I will post a picture. On top of the bad color, every worker in the salon told me it looked wonderful, so gorgeous. Every friend I showed said, "omg, what did she do?" I came in yesterday with a Groupon for a cut, partial highlight, conditioning treatment, and blowout. I had never dyed my hair before yesterday and to be honest was extremely nervous. Stylist Tommy, however, not only was extremely professional but took away any worries I had. Part of the reason I have never dyed my hair before is because I have always felt intimidated by the snobby attitude I've experienced in other salons. This place couldn't be further from that stereotype. Tommy expertly is explained everything he was going to do and did with my hair, asking what my comfort level was throughout, and paid such close attention to detail. I've never had such a positive experience at a salon before. Even the girl that washed my hair, Beth, was beyond hospitable. My hair has never been better and I am definitely a loyal customer now. If I could give this place zero stars i would. I recently scheduled an appointment with Renaissance for a Tuesday evening. I traveled all the way to the salon, and the front desk attendant explained i was not in the system. In addition, they stated they had no time for me anyway. Coincidentally enough, i had a voicemail from a secretary stating confirmation of my appointment that morning. Once i showed the manager this voicemail, and expressed the inconvenient commute i experienced, she gave me a free deep conditioning treatment voucher for the next time i were to come in. I called to cancel the follow up appointment, and expressed that i would like to reschedule and perhaps utilize the voucher. The secretary then complained that i could not use it and i should be happy they did me the favor of letting me pay the difference of a groupon i had bought ahead of time. Look...I never like to write anything but positive but, I must say- I read the reviews on this place and it lead me to believe I was in for a decent experience in this salon. A little side note, I may be a bit bias because I used to work in high end salons in my 20s and working in high end places makes everything else kind of ..ehhh. This salon, is not by any means high end. First of, the decor is shabby. It has an interesting element here and there but the walls were painted poorly, I could tell it was done by a non professional and the colors were like muted and boring. THERE IS NOT ONE DECORATIVE ELEMENT just blank walls. Not minimalist just blank. There is an old futon with and old blanket flung over it (like something you find in a sorority house (comfy but well used and NOT very chic) it is in the front desk area which by the way is the thruway from the color/shampoo area to the cutting area and it is about 3 feet wide. the place is bland an unappealing. I feel bad to say this but I have no idea who is who at the front desk. The girl who was standing there when I came in was wearing a crazy looking WIG-and looked dazed and confused I was shocked. Nobody was very professional, I had no idea who was who. On the phone they assured me Julie would be great for my daughters coarse curly hair.... I will keep my stylist nameless...I feel bad for her. ONE POSITIVE THIS PLACE HAS.... THOMAS who is a junior stylist.shampoo, and everything in between. This guy was trained in NYC and you can tell. He picks up everybody's slack as he goes, and when he shampooed me he did a shiatsu scalp technique that made me forget how uncomfortable I felt in this place. He was wonderful. My stylist was nice but spent about 3 minutes on my cut, took out her blow dryer and started my blowout and literally one minute into it she had somebody go fetch Thomas (who had washed my hair) and asked him to continue while she checked her color client and said she would be right back. half way through my blowout she came back and stood there and informed me she needed to stay on the other side "watching" the other ladies color cause she needed to be the one who washed out her color, and had Thomas do my entire blowout.Assistants often do the blowouts for a stylist but the way she handled this was super unprofessional. My daughters stylist who was two chairs away was trying to be friendly but was very fake and obnoxious. I saw my 13 yr old daughter looking sad in the chair and i felt bad. The cut was ridiculous, and the blowout sucked. her hair was like a frizzy poodle. HORRIBLE. I have never seen such a poor job on this child. I have taken her to different places and even assistants did a better job that this aging stylist who was dressed like she is 20, with purple hair, a snooty attitude and she was like 50. It was so sad. I was praying she would be somewhat d\genuine to my daughter but she wasn't. I have never seen such a mess in a salon that claims to be "up on the latest trends" I hate to say it but, what they need to be up on is the proper way to run a salon. A smile perhaps? Somebody to greet you? A stylist that is with you for more than a minute and is not in a mental fog? I mean even a somewhat professional chic style of dress on the staff would help how they look overall. Thomas was the reason I didn't explode. Purchased a Groupon for single process color and called to make the appointment only to be informed that the Groupon I purchased was only good for a root touch up. The woman was nasty as hell on the phone to boot. I've gotten my hair done hundreds of times and a single process has NEVER ONCE just been a crappy root touch up. I completely see why all these reviews are garbage and I am relieved that the rude witch on the phone hung up on me, you could not pay me to walk in there. I went here for the first time because of a groupon. I have extremely curly hair so I have trouble finding beauticians who know how to cut it right. For this reason, I don't cut it too often. Julie cut my hair and she understood what I wanted and was able to deliver. I am glad to have found her and will definitely go back. High end salon with nice staff. I didn't get anything that I wanted~ although the workers were nice, my stylist did not listen to anything I said. I came in wanting a dark gray ombre that didn't go to far up my head and didn't look blocky because I have black hair. I came out with blondish brown ombre that comes more than half way up my hair and looks like a straight line across my head. So basically I have a block of black hair and then a block of blonde hair. I'm so disappointed with what I came out with especially since I had to go in twice because she claimed she could fix it the second time around (first trip I came out with streaks of blonde and blue). After what I experienced at this salon, I doubt I will ever come back again. I made an appointment to come in and get my hair touched up before my Brother in-law's wedding. I only had 5 days before the wedding so it was just enough time to get it done. The receptionist gave me some strange prices that didn't make any sense but I figured I would have to speak to a stylist anyway. The day of the appointment I was on my way over. I came in and was told that my appointment was canceled because the stylist was sick. I was pretty upset because I didn't get a phone call until 1 hour before the appointment and I didn't hear my phone ring. I did reschedule but the receptionist told me that it would be more for what I wanted done. I was pretty shocked. I ended up being 15 minutes late for my new appointment because I had to run errands that took longer than expected. I was walking in when I got a nasty phone call from the stylist telling me that she had people waiting to have their hair done and me being late was causing other people in line to wait longer. I apologized and walked in. There was no one waiting like she explained over the phone. In fact the salon was practically empty. Ok now let me just tell how rude this stylist was because I have never in my life experienced such unprofessional behavior from a stylist before. She not only rolled her eyes at me but she completely man handled me. While highlighting my hair, she dug her nails into my scalp because I was moving around too much for her. I was appalled and I probably should've walked out at that moment but I didn't. The stylist never even spoke to me. She started ranting to another client about how terrible her medical insurance was and never once asked me how I'm doing or if she could get me anything to make my experience a nice one. She was completely rude. When she finished my hair and dried it, I could tell she did a horrible job. I paid and tipped her but I will never go back here ever again. This took me a long time to write this review because i have been so busy and i wanted to write a thorough review. This place is a literal train wreck of a "salon." I came here for an emergency color correction in early January 2 days before an important interview i was to attend. I was desperate and this salon was open later then other places. When I called ahead they said come on in, they can take a look at my hair and see what they can do for it. When I arrived they looked at my hair and said they could help me. Now listen, my hair needed some TLC it wasn't THAT terrible but it did have some underlying greenish tones from a temporary blue dye I did for Halloween, and when I tried to fix it at home myself with brown dye, it was a dull not so pretty brown, thus I wanted to seek some professional help. So I didn't think this color correction would be a huge extreme challenge for a licensed hair dresser, but apparently boy was I wrong cause They completely WRECKED my hair. I wish I never even trusted them, I wish I just would've kept what I had when I came in cause it wasn't nearly as bad as what I left with! I wanted to cry, actually I did cry. They were super unprofessional and the one girl doing my hair was extremely unenthused to be doing my hair, well gosh if it's such a bother why did you guys agree to color correct my hair if this is such an inconvenience to you? Their attitudes reflected their poor effort they put into it. If it was too late (6:30pm) and you guys didn't want to do a color correction, then just SAY THAT? Don't ruin someone's hair because you can't say no?! They know they messed up because when they washed out the color they put on it, they dried my hair and it looked absolutely no different then when it started, so they were like "let's go back and put an accelerated toner on it".... yeah I'm not an idiot and there is no such thing as an accelerated toner. What they did was put the blackest black dye on my hair for a short amount of time and washed it out. I'm pretty sure while my head was at the sink they left to go smoke cigarettes and came back. After the "blowout" my hair was spotty, pitch black, and turned to mush because of how dead it was. Oh and that really really sad excuse of a "blowout" that I paid for was absolutely terrible... first of all two of them blew out my hair? It was the girl who died it and some other extremely loud obnoxious woman who worked there. Second of all it was them waving 2 blowdryers on my head not even brushing it out, no round brush no nothing. I thought they were JOKING that's how bad t was. My hair was awful, wrecked, and looked way worse then how it started. They kept trying to make me feel better and say "you can't really tell if you wear it up" i was devastated. Then i paid at the front and they "took $5 off" ghee THANKS. I still paid $135 for this mess i couldn't even believe they charged me for 2 toners when the second toner they used because they messed up!!!! Why should i even pay for the second toner? I was livid but i wanted to get the heck out of there as fast as i could. The next morning I went somewhere else and had my long hair cut off by an actual reputable salon. This salon was shocked at the damage Renaissance salon did to my hair, I honestly don't know why I even paid them but I hate to make a scene. Shame on me because I should not have paid them a cent for their terrible service. Please, save your hair and do not go here. Go anywhere but here, go to lemon tree even they are better and don't charge as much. Lemon tree is also cleaner because renaissance is a dump and they use really really cheap crappy dye from Sally's and have not a clue what they are doing. read more

I wouldn't give this establishment the time of day again I feel bad because the actual stylist are very nice but when you have such a nasty person greeting people and talking to them in a disgusting manner it turns customers off. I came here because I bought a groupon for a single process color and cut. The place is poorly decorated and dirty with hair all over the floor, even in the waiting area (not sure how). Overall I was happy with my color and cut, my only complaint was that she was SO MESSY with the dye (she literally just rubs in all the dye like shampoo and doesn't wipe it off your skin while it's processing). She left dye stains ALL OVER my hairline. Not a huge deal. I came back again and this time I asked if she could wipe the dye off my face. She didn't seem happy that I asked her this and instead of wiping it off she handed me a towel and told me that they have stain remover for that. Keep in mind the processing area doesn't have a mirror so I had to blindly Wipe the messy dye off my face. While the cut and color came out good, the 3 stars are because the employees here are beyond unprofessional. The front desk girl makes you wait to be helped while she's playing on her cell phone. The stylists have conversations screaming across the whole salon. The shampoo girl doesn't seem to know how to wash hair (seriously, it's not that hard). My stylist, although messy, was nice enough..but the unprofessional nature and seemingly inexperienced employees just made me feel uncomfortable here both times and I probably will not be back. read more

This salon is the best salon on Long Island! They do the best work and have the best prices. Other salons around charge an arm and a leg just for a blow out. I have been to MANY salons in Suffolk county and this is the place to be. They have a great staff that always listens to what you want and delivers. I have went from black hair to blonde hair to red hair to having extensions and everything in between and my hair is still healthy and shiny all the time. Cait is the stylist that does my hair, she in my opinion is the best one there. She always understands what I want my hair to look like and does exactly that. Tommy is an assistant who is awesome too, he gives THE BEST shampoos and does great blow outs as well. There's another assistant named Theresa who is the sweetest girl you will ever meet, she does awesome shampoos as well and is always running around the salon cleaning. Ok everything went well but they left me with hair dye stained all over my skin. They never wiped any off so it's been two days and my ears are still black. (how dissalusional for a child to get ripped off in such a way) the price was average $46.50, for a single process color, nothing more was requested, however, it also included a hair cut. which was a nice bonus. regardless, we were told, it was only for a root touch up and a trim. listen, no one was asking for more than what was included in the voucher, not asking for miracles, three colors, a new hair cut with a updated look, simply what was paid for, in advance. without even trying to look at the voucher, we were informed that groupon misrepresents thier salon and that this happens all the time and major adjustments need to be taken when the customer gets in. they were asking for fee that were already equal to what was already paid for groupon. hmmm.. that would make a trim and root touch up 46.50, then to get the whole head and cut another 46.50... whick would be over 100$.. to me that is a rip off and a scam... i am not one who denies anyone should get paid what they are worth, and was willing to pay over 25.00$ in tips because it was a good price, but, to be told that they would not honor the voucher and it was beyond thier control what groupon does did not seem like the resolution to keeping a new client. when we called groupon, they were very apologetic, and stated that they only list merchants who honor what is represented on the groupon web site, luckily, we were already on the phone with groupon, and they too heard the response of the salon and stated that they would reevaluate weither or not they should represent such a underlying company.. do not go to this place.. nasty peoply, dirty salon that stinks like urine and pulls scams that should be considered illegal business practices. just beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
