When you think high-end furniture most people are intimidated by the attitude and typical stereo…read moretypes of what "high end" means. It's simple, when you combine good quality with innovative design that is timeless, you get what you pay for. As consumers who need to be more responsible for all their purchases, investing in good quality furniture that keep up with daily use is important. Spencer Interiors is one of my ** must see** furniture showrooms featuring a collection of my favorite modern furniture suppliers: the timeless designs of luxury comfort from MERIDIANI ITALY, to the wood craftsmanship of CECCHINI ITALY or unique chair designs by CASPRINI ITALY, sleek minimal designs of VICCARBE SPAIN to the elegance of CASA MILANO ITALY. Spencer Interiors features mostly European brands where quality and design bring furniture to a new level. Less of the usual suspect "trendy" furniture - you will find unique brand names that I love for their simplicity and timeless aesthetics. If you are a smart shopper and compare pricing with other retailers, you will find that this showroom is fairly priced and competitive. As an interior designer, I appreciate the customer service and follow-up that comes with purchasing an investment piece - Stephen Spencer and Ichi Chen are fabulous to work with, they are detailed and always sincerely concerned about helping my clients make the right decision versus just selling another product. When you have a retailer believe in their products as well stand behind the quality - furniture shopping becomes a much more enjoyable experience for both clients and myself. Furniture favorites: Pianca people stacking drawers - excellent value for storage solutions for both media and bedside storage. Anta Germany is one of my favorite European lighting companies, excellent value and lead time is less than most. Casprini - caprice and tiffany chairs - excellent price and extremely durable ... if you are ever in the search of something new, check out their website, everything is conveniently listed with details, dimensions, stock availability and pricing making furniture sourcing all the more efficient.

Twelfth Street in New West is not usually on my radar for walking and window shopping, but it's got…read moresome pretty cool stuff if you care to look. Such as a bright orange Eames reproduction chair - hey, what is this place? It's the Banana Lab, a hidden treasure trove of mid-century modern furniture and little design-y things. Hidden in plain sight, really, as it's just across the street from a Yelper fave, Big Star Sandwich. Frankly, I'm heartened there's now another MCM-focused vintage store in town! Packed into the Lab's small space is a number of nifty teak sideboards, record cabinets, chairs and other Danish modern furnishings and housewares for my soon-to-be groovier living room. Prices compare favourably to the *other* MCM store, and the proprietors here seem really nice and friendly and enthusiastic about their wares.

There's plenty of mid century furniture to choose from and upon inspection of some of their refinished items, they do an incredible job. Like with vintage and hard wood furnitures, some of the pieces are not cheap but they're unique and will last a long time. The other plus to this store is their kitschy (and sometimes original) art pieces and tchotchkes. I prefer this place to the shop in the Quay so I'll most likely come back as a few items tweaked my fancy (especially the sunburst table) and I'll be sure to let people know about this place.
