Really bummed to see so many reviews about the staff because I've never had a bad experience. They've always been nice and have offered advice when I've been indecisive about items. I love coming in here and sifting through the racks. They have a wide selection and carry a lot of high end brands and a good amount of luxury designer. For a place that is apparently very choosy about what items are good enough for them, the selection in the store ought to be better. Yes, they have a few true (over-priced) true designer items, but much of it is just department store brands and even some truly low-end brands. It may depend on location though, because I've purchased a few unique European-made items in the Lambertville NJ store. Although I usually sell things on eBay, I thought I'd give Greene Street a try since it would save a bit of time and work. I figured that given what they're selling, my stuff was of at least as good quality, mostly better. I took in a pretty large pile of clothes. They were not department store "designer" brands like Calvin Klein, DKNY, Michael Kors, but were mostly purchased from boutiques where you won't find those brands but will find quality stuff (Ellie boutique, for example), some even made in the US . Brands like Trina Turk and Elliot Lauren. I somehow had the impression that these were the kind of items this shop would like to sell. Maybe they just never heard of such names and don't know about internet research. The staff were very rude. First of all, I had to wait around for them to look over my things. I've consigned elsewhere, and typically the staff would look through the items quickly, give me a list, and get back to me in a day or so regarding the prices. Here, they took quite a long time and then came back and unceremoniously dumped everything into my arms. The woman very snootily told me that since there weren't 10 things they wanted, they would take none and that the clothes had marks from hangers. Utter BS that was - at home they had been on padded hangers which I did not want to hand over to this store so I put some of them on metal hangers for literally less than 20 minutes for the drive over to the store and others folded up. No way were they marked up from the hangers. I don't think the attitude is limited to this store either. A friend of mine took to another location some clothes that were in almost-new condition, hardly worn, and was snottily told that "we can't use your size". This person is not a size 8, but not obese either. If the staff and owners knew anything about demographics, they would know that they are missing out on a good portion of the market but discriminating based on size. If they're trying to cultivate an image of chicness ... they could benefit from a re-evaluation of business plan. read more

Zero stars if that were possible! This is largely due to the staff working here. The two teenage era girls working there act as though they are annoyed to even have that job and are overly rude to customers. I was trying to obtain information on bringing some high end designer items in for consignment. They could not have been more rude or unhelpful. I was able to track down the owner that day and filed a complaint with her regarding how her staff was acting and treating customers. With the large number of high end consignment shops located in the Main Line area there is no need to shop here......EVER! I did try to purchase a small designer handbag and walked out mid purchase before I handed over any money because the teenage person checking me out was so rude and repulsive. She acted as though my business to their store was offensive, i had to basically beg to be checked out, she was more concerned with what was happening on her phone and glared at me when I asked if she could ring me up. The store lot not only that immediate business transaction but also over a dozen high end consignment items from designers in Milan Italy which I would have gladly brought in, instead I donated most of them to charity or placed them with another store in the area. Bottom line, choose another consignment place for both selling and buying. The behavior of the staff can not be excused. read more

I have consigned in a few other stores and have never been treated so rudely!! I called a few days before my consignment date was up and was told no problem call the due date... called Tuesday cause Monday was a holiday and told I had to pick up today.. ok .. then told I had to get the remaining pieces from the floor myself!! I arrived was handed a piece of paper to go look thru every pair of pants in the store because if they aren't in the correct size people put them anywhere! Couldn't find 2 pieces the reply from rude staff was well if we find them we will call!! Never again!!!! read more

Decided to give the store a try again, this time looking around instead of attempting to give for consignment. Mistake. The two teenager-ish girls at the counter could care less about customers in the store. Not an acknowledgement to anyone, no asking if they could help. Nothing. They were on speaker phone with someone asking if there were bandaids in the store and complaining about how bored they were. Lovely to hear as a customer. After ending the call, the conversation between the two was not necessary for customers to hear. They sounded like squabbling kids. The clothes and accessories are okay, not wonderful. This location often has some great finds, but the very rude staff make it not worthwhile. I stood at the counter waiting to pay for one item and the man did not even acknowledge me. After a few minutes, I said, "excuse me, can I pay for this please" and he told me to be patient. I left and will not go back. Megan H. knew I would love this consignment shop which is very easy to forget is actually a consignment shop. I was immediately drawn to the rack full of Lilly Pulitzer dresses, shorts, pants and shirts, half of which were new with tags. I found an amazingly 1970s Palm Beach housecoat for way below retail, plus a Yoanna Baraschi dress and a Lilly shirt. Employees are friendly, dressing rooms are cleanm and prices are great. read more

Management was rude on the phone when asked if I could get a store credit for the bag that was so highly priced and unhappy with it.

a friend and i decided to make our way out to bryn mawr to check out greene street. we hadn't had much luck at the one on south, but we were optimistic after reading all of these reviews of people's great finds. the main difference between the stores is that there is a ton of high-end stuff here. donna karan, white house/black market, armani - i even saw a pair manolos! the high-end stuff was priced very well (though still expensive if you are looking for thrift shop prices), but the lower-end labels were priced really poorly. they were selling a forever21 tank top at GS for $19, but i'd purchased it at forever 21 for only $12. huh? i tried on a ton of stuff but, unfortunately, i walked out empty handed this time. i think if i lower my expectations for next time, i may have better luck. read more

This is a consignment shop, and not a thrift store, so items are priced accordingly. And there are some high end brands here so there are some "high" price tags as well. Over the years I've bought stuff here and I've also sold stuff here and I've had relatively good experiences. There is a lot of stuff, so you do have to be patient and scour. But if you try hard enough, you may be able to find some great things are decent prices (not thrift store prices!). Since this is in downtown bryn mawr, park on the meters on the street if you find a spot, or park in the big lot behind the store. Good luck! read more

I love this place. In the past, I have never really considered consignment shopping for my own clothes, until I decided to consign some of my own barely (if ever) worn clothing here. And then, I had an epiphany. If I have 10+ pieces of things that I haven't worn and are actually pretty darn cute and desirable, that means other people do too! And I can buy those things from other people! Why am I paying retail!? Greene Street is amazing because it is NOT a Bargain basement place with that disorganized feel I associate with thrift or consignment. They do a great job of taking desirable clothes, so it does not feel like a chore to look through the racks, but rather, a fun little rendezvous with fashion. It is well-appointed & well lit. There is not a ratty shirt in the place- everything is in almost new or actually new-with-tags condition. The staff is very pleasant and seems to really love fashion/know what they are doing. I've been to the Chestnut Hill location as well, and it is lovely, too. This store is making me fall in love with shopping again after years of big, soul-less web orders on Gap.com and J.Crew.com. This Greene Street location is not professional at all. I am never greeted when I enter the establishment. A few of the employees are rude at times and for the life of me I can't figure out why. My very first consignment all of my items were accepted and sold. It took 78 days for my check to arrive due to Greene Street sending the check to the wrong address. The correct address was on the contract and yet still it was sent to the wrong address? Poor attention to detail and a major inconvenience. Of course the store did not offer anything to compensate me...not even an apology. Surprisingly with my second consignment the transaction went smoothly. The third transaction a boy that works there accepted 9 out of the 12 items I submitted. 9? The minimum is 10.... I knew this transaction would be shady. I waited 4 weeks for an email informing me of the prices my items would be sold for. I never received that email. I went to the store and inquired about the email, the boy that accepted my items stated I should receive the email in a few weeks!!!! Ok I wait a few more weeks and get an email stating my items are out of season and my items are being rejected after being accepted and I needed to pick them up by 6/20 or my items would be donated! The nerve of him! I have consigned there a few times and shop there often. I consider myself a decent customer and deserve to be treated better. Anything will be out of season if you sit on it for 4 weeks! This is unprofessional and unacceptable....next time I'll sell my items online. Greene Street Bryn Mawr is the worse! read more

It's going to be hit or miss because it's a consignment shop. The problem is the lack of customer service provided by the employees and their new rules. If something you've consigned is under $8 or $9 and doesn't sell you won't get it back. The lack of customer service is the bigger problem. Just be friendly and helpful. Most of the employees there seem annoyed to be working and are not friendly. They do have loud conversations with one another. You can shop there but don't expect a great experience. read more

I went there for the first time yesterday and was blown away. Found an Ann Taylor work-appropriate shirt-with-matching-sweater for $6. Also found a wool sweater that fits just right. The interior was beautiful and everything was in the appropriate place by size and category. For consignment, the prices were very good, and the clearance items, which were in great shape, rivaled the prices at bottom-end thrift shops. I heard that the store has changed hands and they had remodeled the interior and revamped the business. I am thrilled to find this shop because most consignment on the main line is very high end and very high price. This store is both reasonably priced and had great selection. A gem. read more

They advertised on IG that they are taking prom attire. Ok cool, drove down dropped off two dresses and had to call several times to check the status on the pricing. Each time I was told the person who is doing that is not in. OK but does that take away from when I am supposed to pick up,the dresses. I FINALLY got a quote... ok great... One would think if you advertise that you would be selling something NEW and it's PROM season why not do some marketing of these items. I called I was told that it was advertised on FB w pictures..NOT.. no pictures ever made it on IG.. and I just got a bunch of excuses from staff as well as the manager. "I am not in prom dress shape" ok well I am sure you have staff that could model them OR I have a thought USE THAT BIG WINDOW that you have to advertise them. Needless to say I picked the gowns up and took them to a place where girls who need a gown can get a gown for FREE. Trust me I spent a lot of money and it would have been great to get a few dollars back. I love a good consignment shop but not this one read more

Not the best consignment experience. Staff are extremely rude and lack customer service skills. Consigners beware.

After 3 separate terrible experiences at this store, I will no longer be taking clothes to consign or purchase items here. The primary reason is due to the appalling behavior of the staff, notably the incredibly unpleasant older woman with the long black hair. She has been rude to me and other customers in the store each time I have been in, including ignoring customers, making snide remarks about items I've brought in to consign, refusing high end items purely because she's unaware of the brand, and physically rolling her eyes at me - an action caught by a friend of mine also in the store at the time. If not for her rude behavior, I'd continue to consign and shop there. I hope the owner is seeing these reviews as it seems to be a troubling pattern. With an increasing presence of quality consignment boutiques in the area, better options with quality customer service could put this long standing shop in serious trouble. read more

Sellers be warned!! Do not consign here!! I've never had a consignment store not give me prices at drop off. Green Street tells you they will email prices in 3 weeks! When I contacted them they had already sold 5 of 7 items which I had never agreed to pricing of. Management is awful, rude, & untrustworthy. Customer service had a "meeting" about my sold items, but could only tell me they were "in-line" w/ their standard pricing. If it was so standard why didn't they tell me at drop off. They don't care about customers or rectifying THEIR mistakes, only that you sign a contract. Better off donating and getting a tax write off. read more

I think the cashiers need additional training in customer service- I purchased a leather pocket book , brand new with tissue paper inside - when the cashier quickly removed the tissue paper and began to fold a perfectly new leather bag I insisted that he return the tissue paper to the bag and leave the bag alone!!!! The cashier standing next to him felt compelled to instruct me that I had the option of asking him to not remove the paper - the behavior that really was really incomprehensible was that the male cashier didn't understand that one doesn't fold leather pocketbooks in half like a piece of clothing!!!!! I certainly didn't need her instruction and he doesn't understand the what his responsibilities are re: customer purchases. Worst place to sell your clothes! So snobby they didn't take any of my free people, gap or guess jeans. Looking around the place I can see why because most of the stuff they sell are for old ladies. A lot of my clothes were not even worn and the stuff they had in the store you could tell were worn. What a waste. read more

I've been to just about every consignment & thrift on the Main Line and I think Greene Street is the best because of its prices, selection & ease of use. Everything is hanging up and separated by size so it's easy to browse, the prices are generally good and the selection is wide ranging - from black tie clothing to shorts. I don't expect a store with used clothes to lead the way in customer service so I'm not as bothered as others are by the staff's indifference. If I recall correctly, they've added at least one changing room so there won't be as much waiting to try on clothes. The only downside as far as I'm concerned: the use of horseshoes as hangars in the changing rooms -- they're totally useless! If you pair this with Ardmore's Junior League Shop down the street you'll be in Thrift Store paradise. read more

Consignment success! Found a J.Crew dress appropriate for holiday dinners, a Lulu Lemon shirt and an old pair of Sevens I didn't need and a pair of black new-ish Sorel winter boots in my size. Lots of Ferragamo, Frye & Loeffler Randall shoes I didn't dare try on too. Enjoy! read more

Don't waste your time taking things to consign here. Barely worn designer shoes and leather belts were tossed back at me.

I have found some great things both in the Bryn Mawr and Lambertville stores, but have noticed some poor quality in some of the items, such as belts missing from a raincoat, but sold for full price, as well as stitching unraveling on a designer jacket, which I was charged full price for but told after getting it home and noticing the damage that I would have to return it to the store in Bryn Mawr for a discount (not worth it considering distance and turnpike tolls). I feel it does the customer a disservice when consigned items are not scrutinized more carefully, because these things can be missed and then repairs have to be made out-of-pocket by the customer. On this particular visit, I purchased over $500 worth of clothing and accessories, yet was told I could not given a 10% credit on my credit card of $6 because I can not return within a week with the $60 jacket. I offered to take it to a closer store to view the damage, but that apparently was unacceptable. read more

Consigned over $500 of clothes here in November and I'm still waiting for payment (the contract said I should have been paid a month ago). The manager insists that the corporate office has sent the check and all she can do is fill out a form...Now waiting for the owner to email me. Based on the number of reviews that say this same thing, I'm thinking this place is either purposely stealing from people or just incredibly poorly run. Also, one important thing to note: When they ask you if you want to donate whatever clothes they choose not to sell or whichever of your clothes don't sell, they mean donate TO THEM. A store clerk actually told me that. So they are asking if you want to give them your clothes for free, presumably so they can sell them without paying you. And finally, when you call, you get a voicemail saying the date is early January and the phone system isn't working properly. Apparently nobody has bothered to fix it in over a month?? Or they don't want to hear from all the people they've stolen money and clothes from. read more

Love this place, so glad it came to the Hill! They have such nice things at great prices! I went in on a whim looking for a dress to wear to my friend's wedding-found the perfect thing! It's a LBD from White House Black Market-no defects or signs of wear whatsoever. It was probably originally at least $100 and I got it for $35! Can't beat that :) read more

I've been going to GS for years and have noticed that the quality of the Bryn Mawr location has dropped dramatically in the past year. The clothes look old and have noticed holes and stains. In addition the prices have increased to the point that you could probably buy a new item versus used. In terms of consigning clothes the staff is not well versed in quality clothing. Best to sell your clothing on your own or with a higher end consignment store. read more

This place has some really great stuff if you know your brands and prices. You can get some higher end stuff for amazing prices. I do not really understand though how they price some of the lower end brands--as they have things from places like LOFT and Nordstrom Juniors Dept. that are priced close to much nicer things. I'm just that impressed with the customer service @ this Greene Street establishment that I had to write a review. I purchased a necklace over the phone approximately 8 months ago, and never came to pick it up. I just called today and the saleswoman told me they still have my necklace and I can come whenever I want. Her patient, relaxed, and easygoing attitude was so refreshing. In addition to the great customer service, I'm really impressed by the creative juices flowing from the merchandising staff. The outfits they put together are stunning (as seen on facebook) and the combinations are so creative. read more

Seriously, the level of holier than thou from the employees is perplexing. The salespeople at Niemens are more down to earth. Are you really doing me an enormous favor by consigning my well-selected clothing and taking 60% of the sale? Too many rules: "More than 10 items", then "less than 10 items", then more than "accepted 10 items", "you can't leave the store while we analyze your clothing", "we won't look at your clothing after 6 pm". Geez, ever heard of a full-time working woman before? You should listen to yourselves. I now feel better by donating to Purple Heart my Helmut Lang jacket and Vince blouse. I have been shopping at Greene St. for years it's one of my favorite places. I go to Greene St. before I even hit the mall. You never know what you may find in there. The staff is usually always friendly when I visit. Although, the customers seem bitchy they hold up the dressing rooms and leave all their crap in the rooms where I have to get the staff to clean out there mess so, I can use the fitting rooms. But, other than the fitting room craze I LOVE SHOPPING HERE you can walk in with one thing in mind but leave with a bag full of treasures. read more

I spent a day going through closets and gathering, labeling and neatly hangaring and covering about 30 clothing items from suits, suit coats, sweaters, shirts and khakis. I called Greene Street and was encouraged to bring it all over, which I did. After humping it all to my car, then again into the shop and waiting about 15 minutes for evaluation, I was told none of it was acceptable because it was too big (over 38" waists and XL shirts, etc.) and that they only took seasonal items. So after filling in forms and waiting for that unwelcomed news, I humped everything back to the car. What a kick in the teeth and what a way to freeze needy people who aren't "size appropriate" out of some excellent condition, clean, brand/designer name clothes. Couldn't they have had the courtesy to inform me how picky they were when I called? Never again for this place. read more

Great store -- huge selection of all sizes and a range from typical labels to very upscale designers to choose from. They carry clothing, shoes & accessories and prices are good. Just make sure you love whatever you purchase because I don't think they return or exchange! read more

I have consigned here many times and have always had a great experience. I sometimes scratch my head a little over both rejected and accepted items alike, but I understand that this is not only a function of the what shape the piece is in and the brand but also their inventory at the time you are there to consign. I've had an almost new Theory sweater rejected and a pair of 10-year old GAP cargo pants accepted. You just have to go with the flow and not take it so personally when your items are rejected. I recently consigned 15 of 20 pieces I brought in. The 5 remaining pieces simply went to the Salvation Army. I'm thrilled to have found Greene Street because I've easily made $500 selling stuff there that I would have ended up donating otherwise and getting nothing. I also love that you get a decision on the spot and there's no making an appointment or any of that nonsense other consignment shops put you through. Ironically, I rarely find anything there that I want to purchase for myself, so added bonus that I don't blow the money I make consigning - or at least I don't blow it there... read more

I'm through trying to consign my treasure trove with Greene Street. They've gotten progressively fussier with each passing meeting. This last time I tried consigning, among other items, men's furnishings from BOSS, Versace, Thomas Pink and other high-end labels -- some with the tags still on them! The employee handed me back both bags almost immediately saying she couldn't take any items because they "smelled like mothballs." Well, if you had a wardrobe valued in the tens of thousands of dollars, wouldn't you protect it too?? If anything they ought to be grateful. I could see if they smelled like cigarettes or a cat box. When I left, I frankly felt insulted. I'm just going to donate all of it to the Little Sisters of the Poor. I'm sure a homeless person down on his luck would love to get into a Gucci sport shirt with a Duchamps necktie. Greene Street, you missed out. There's plenty more cool stuff where this came from. The only reason this place gets two stars instead of one is that they do have a good selection from time to time and the prices are decent. But to other consignors, bring your good stuff somewhere it will be appreciated and not cast aside for stupid reasons. read more
