Well worth it! Greenleaf's Ryan and Dana designed a space that was attentive to our desired use,…read morethey were patient with our changes, and they employed a terrific team who worked together seamlessly. Every crew member was courteous, neat, and hardworking, and the renovation was completed in 2- 1/2 of the estimated 3-4 months. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the work done by all involved, and we now happily make daily use of a previously avoided space. More: I was the naysayer on this project and I was wrong. My husband wanted to renovate our dreary basement to give me more space for all my hobbies. We had finished the space 30 years ago on the (very) cheap: carpeted exercise room, a tiny office, a bathroom with a shower no one used, and a crammed unfinished laundry room that also contained a former coal bin lined with shelving. An unfinished cold storage room behind the office held old paint and garden supplies. The spaces were functional, but they were dingy, worn, uninviting, and, consequently, not often used. The laundry room was kind of creepy. I couldn't imagine that improving our small, low-ceilinged space would justify what remodels cost these days, but Ryan and Dana helped us see the possibilities. While keeping the price down, they created a large office/art/sewing room with two long built-in desks, each with wonderful deep drawers, and made the laundry/utility area more usable by dismantling the coal bin and painting the walls and floor. They upgraded the quality of the entire basement with a beautiful banister, vinyl wood flooring, better lighting, solid wood doors, and lovely bathroom fixtures. AND they added a window in the office for a bit of natural light. What a difference! We actually exercise in the exercise room, and the other spaces are just a delight. Now it feels more like a "lower level" than a basement. Greenleaf transformed our basement into a wonderful extension of our home's living areas. We highly recommend Ryan, Dana, right-hand-man Todd, and the entire Greenleaf team.

When he asked for our budget, we initially said that we did not know what it should cost, as we assumed there would be significant variability depending on materials used. He offered no more information, so we said $7k, but that we had plenty of leeway, depending on what was proposed. He gave no indication of whether or not this was reasonable, but did say that he would have the designer he works with contact us. Fast forward 2 weeks with no contact, my wife called him to inquire about the designer and estimate. He responded that our budget wasn't high enough, and that it wouldn't be a good fit. If that was the case, he could have told us that when we threw out the $7k. He could have provided some expertise and guidance when we initially said that we didn't know what it should cost. He could have called back or emailed us that he wasn't going to do any work for us. Basically, he could have done many things that are more professional than what he did.

The damage was mostly cosmetic, thankfully. We got a great deal, but it needed a lot of work. The entire home would be renovated. We decided to use an FHA 203k Renovation loan. This is a unique federal loan and we needed a bank and contractor with experience in order for the process to be as smooth as possible. Kingdom Construction & Remodel was our choice since they quoted within our budget and were very friendly. They were professional and knowledgeable of our special loan which gave us comfort. Kingdom also has secretaries that handle the communication, (Peggy and Crystal) Brian handles the finance side, and Chad, the project head. The initial start of the process went smoother than we expected. We had all of the paperwork done and renovation started mid Dec. 2016. The job was done by different sub-contractors hired by Kingdom. They only thing we had an issue with was communication. There were times we contacted Kingdom for updates and it would take a week for a response. There were a few times the home sat dormant for weeks and we just wanted explanations. The ordering of materials and product selection process seemed a bit scattered, but we got it done. Overall, we are happy with the work done on the home. The work is so good that the neighbors are asking who did it. There were a few hiccups, which we hear is normal in this type of situation and there were a few repairs in the home that needed to be fine-tuned which they took care of. There were a few things that were missed like our screen for the back door, which we are still awaiting repair. Kingdom is a good company and I hope they learned from working from us, as we gained knowledge of contractor partnership and renovation from them.

We are extremely happy with the end product and would go with Accent again. We shopped other larger remodelers but we were never satisfied with their very conventional designs and the others insisted that I didn't have enough space for a water closet and separate vanities. Accent gave me both and the deal was done for me. It ended up taking much longer than we anticipated to complete the work. Almost two months during which we vacated the master bedroom and moved that furniture around so the workers could have easy access to the bathroom, and we didn't want to sleep with the dust in the air. At some point in the process we changed the door for the water closet. The supplier of the door had several delays, so we were not happy about that. But several months later the bathroom is done and we love it. The workmanship is top notch, the tradesmen were great, very friendly and professional and cleaned up behind themselves. Steve & Bill were very easy to work with and the final product looks just like the drawings he did on the computer the first time we met. We would highly recommend Accent, but don't be in a hurry. If you want it to look beautiful it may take some time.

We had a cash offer to close in a week and needed to address a few issues prior to closing. I reached out to Marvis on a short notice and he was able to accommodate all the fix and installation needed to sell the property. He installed for us a new furnace and also addressed multiple pipe leaks for us. His plumber actually missed a few leaks but what I really appreciate from Marvis was he took responsibility for this and sent the plumber out to address this without additional charges. He was also able to send his guys out on the weekend. What I really like about working with Marvis what there was a constant line of communication. He made me feel as if I could always reached out if I had any questions or concerns. From working with Marvis, he really became someone I can trust. I look forward to working with him on future projects.

This was no easy task to do, with our house not having been updated in 18 years, and working around all our family shenanigans (travel, work schedules, teens' stuff all over the place, etc). Also, I almost didn't want to write this, because I don't want him to get too busy, so he can complete other projects for us that we have planned (but want to space out) for the future! p.s.
