    Hummus plate with chicken
    Michele O.

This place is so good it's hard to explain in words. I was in Michigan visiting family, and we made the trek to Hamtramck to go to Remas. I hadn't had Yemeni food before, but being from the SF Bay Area I had assumed that the middle eastern food I've had back home would be comparable. I was very wrong - I didn't know what I was missing until I came here, and now I crave Yemeni food. The restaurant itself is pretty big and was packed with families and friends eating dinner. We ordered a bunch of food including some chicken, hummus, a salad, and bread. Everything was so fresh and delicious, but the thing I was not prepared for is this garlic sauce. I think it's just whipped raw garlic or something to that effect. It's definitely not for the faint of heart if you're not a fan of garlic, but I am and I honestly could have eaten it straight. We demolished a relatively large plate of it and I would have asked for more, but the portions of the entrees we got were so big we couldn't eat anymore. Also there's a dispenser of hot chai by the register and you shouldn't bypass it. I love chai and theirs is great with or without milk in it. Next time I'm in Michigan I'll definitely be back, potentially more than once just to get that garlic sauce.

    Hummus and Grilled vegetables

Great flavors, fresh food. I am a vegetarian and the grilled vegetables with hummus are a healthy flavorful meal option. My daughter loves the chicken shawarma sandwich and the price. In my 3 weeks in Hamtramck I went there 4 times!

Ordered a spicy Fahsa with chicken, a mixed white beans and fava beans, a large fatoosh with no pita and a large hummus. It's been here for a couple of years, still looks new. It's a decent size place inside, there's a private room for a party. Smells of a very potent air freshener. My bill total was $33.88. I assume it's the beans and the fahsa that takes so long to make. The Mixed mean is not bad, flavorful. The spicy chicken fahsa is very comfort food like. Has a ton of flavor and good spice to it. They gave me signs of jalapeño sauce and that kicks up the Fahsa to an even higher level for me. It tastes delicious. The pita packets came piping hot and are still warm after the drive home. They have actual pockets and were nice and fluffy. The salad tastes as expected. The hummus was not bad, slightly bland, but tasted good. The rest of the food made my meal. The food here is on point and everything tastes really good. I have only been to a handful of Yemeni restaurants, but it's my favorite so far. I found my favorite middle eastern in the metropolitan area. Will definitely be back for more of this good stuff.

Excellent Yemeni spot in Hamtramck. I went once before the restaurants went on indoor dinning pause and it was fantastic and just ordered delivery today. The Mediterranean tray for two is actually big enough to feed 4 to 6. My friend and I both had leftovers for days and everything was so good. All the meats are very high quality and cooked perfectly, the hummus, grape leaves, rice, etc. But hold the phone, the lamb soup is the best soup I've ever had in my life. No joke. It's a lamb consomme, just the most delicious broth ever. When I was there in person, I wanted the lentil soup but they were out so that one is great as well I'm sure. The only thing I don't like here are the fries, I don't know what this cooking technique is that makes the fries orange and bumpy (some kind of seasoning I guess), but they are good for that method: hot and crisp. I just prefer plain fries with a little salt. The restaurant itself was very bright and clean, staff was very nice and they have Mexican coke and really good hot tea for ending the meal. I look forward to visiting again when it's open indoors but definitely a good order in place in the meantime.

walking into remas i was hit with a smell. the type of smell that is mouth watering. it's always a good sign when you enter a restaurant and the aroma pulls you in. we ordered the lamb fahsa (spicy) and based off of my good friend Yunus Al Somairis recommendation ordered remas zestly gallaba the food came out fairly quickly. the service was definitely up there and the food did not miss. the bread was fresh the fahsa was hot, i just wish the fahsa was a little spicier. overall i would highly recommend this place for authentic yemeni cuisine. it's currently tied as my favorite place to get fahsa in the metro detroit area

    Very dry bready chicken shawarma

Some things, like the decor, have changed a bit at Remas. They do still offer complimentary tea and coffee. We got to pick up order that included a five-piece deboned chicken, one beef kabob skewer and one chicken shawarma. As in the past, the beef kebab was very well seasoned and tender. However, unlike before, there was not bread and garlic sauce. It was served on a few leaves of chopped Romaine with a couple of pieces of grilled onion and carrot tossed in. The deboned chicken came with two sides. We selected rice and salad with house dressing. Both of the sides were nice. The chicken was good, but it was a bit stringy. It did not come with pita either. This is where things took a turn. The chicken shawarma was horrible. It was more bread than chicken with two very thin pieces of pickle. The garlic sauce was potent but used sparingly. Unfortunately, because the chicken was overcooked, the lack of sauce was no help. What you ended up with was a dry chewy mess . Even considering that everything may be freshly prepared, there was no excuse for the ridiculous wait time we had of a bit more than 30 minutes. Even though we received it as soon as it was done, somehow the shawarma was room temperature, at best. This will be my last time ordering the shawarma, but I will continue to return for the beef kabob and lentil soup.

We got the the tray for two that included the lamb haneeth, lamb masloug, and beef gallaba with rice and fries. For starters, they served us with yellow colored lamb soup without lamb in it and salad. The soup was really good to help build up the anticipation for what is to come next. However, it's just disappointing to not find lamb in your soup. Salad was just average as well with lettuce and a few cucumber and tomatoes here and there. The meat platter was really good. Meat was tender and juicy with spices hitting all the right notes. They need to improve their soup and salad game but it could be just the Yemeni way of serving the soup. But salad needs improvement big time though. Could it be because it was late at night and they were about to close? but that still shouldn't impact the quality of sides served with the food. Sides are as important as the main course. Will definitely come back to try more items on the menu.

Totally delightful food and service. Good options for vegetarians. The fruit smoothies are so fresh!
