As the service began, the massage was extremely rough, like putting DIRECT pressure on the spine. To the point where it was very painful and not even remotely enjoyable. The craziest part to me was that my fiancé felt uncomfortable because his masseuse was only using one hand because she was using her other hand to be on her phone calling people. HUH??? It's easy to miss if you're not looking for it, as it's tucked away between a few other businesses in a pale yellow business building. If you're traveling north on San Gabriel, it's on your left hand side. It's right before the Friar Tux shop sign. There's 2 hour street parking in front and also a few spots in the back for parking. She said that she had taken my friend in at 3:40 and I had gone in right before her. I told her that I don't know what time she went in (since I was already back there) but I checked the time when I was back there, and it was 3:40. I was done at 4:30. She went to ask Latisha and then came back and told me that Latisha said it was the full time. I gave up at this point and said it didn't matter, it's fine. "It does matter, you're the one who brought it up," Bessy said. "Right, because you asked me how the massage was so I was honest," I replied. "But we're obviously not going to agree - you're saying it was 60 minutes, I'm saying it wasn't. Therefore, it's okay, it doesn't matter." I was ready to let it go - although I wanted to bring up the other problems I had with the massage, Bessy seemed too defensive to do so. "Well she's been here since 8am so she might have just gotten confused," Bessy said. "But I took your friend back at 3:40 so it was 60 minutes." I don't even understand this argument - when I go to work at 8am, I'm expected to do the exact same job at 3pm as 8am. When I go get a massage, I expect the same service regardless of the time of day. I just let it go at this point - I didn't want to argue, I just wanted to give my honest opinion of the massage. Bessy tried to smooth things over and give us discounts for the next time we came back and even gave my friend the discounted price that I had gotten. Otherwise yes; the rooms are fine, the music is the same every time, the sheets are just normal sheets. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's all really solid. The comments about tipping are weird; when you're paying so little for the massage itself, it's pretty easy math to understand why $20 is the least you can do, assuming you enjoyed your service. If you can't afford $70 total for a massage, you probably shouldn't be out getting one. Even the massage place charges $66 for 60 minutes as their base price, and the environment is comparable (massages are universally worse). And to be clear, no one has ever 'followed us around for a tip'; our masseuses do tend to walk to the front with us to offer us water and thank us for coming. It's really nice. My husband and I visit all the time and we tend to leave $30 for each of our masseuses because they're awesome. For context, we used to go to Raven Spa in Silverlake for our massages. It cost us $100 each NOT including tip to get a far inferior massage to the one we get at SP. We were paying for ambiance and brand, and we were actually pretty satisfied with their pricing for the area (even though we weren't really in love with the massages); until the first time we tried SP. Now, we pay ~$80 each TOTAL for the. best. massages. of our lives. Every time we walk out we feel 1000x better. Every masseuse we've had has been super receptive to pressure feedback, amazing at finding and working out knots, and really, really nice.
