I am appalled and deeply disturbed by the blatant racism displayed at Rejoice Christian School during a recent basketball game against Central High School. According to Coach Ransom, young children in the stands openly made racist remarks, saying things like, "They love chicken wings... They love watermelon... Look at that runaway..."--and instead of stopping it, the parents around them laughed. Even after the coaching staff brought it to the referees' attention and Rejoice Christian's staff supposedly "addressed" it, these kids continued walking down to the Central team's bench to whisper their vile comments directly into the players' ears. How is this acceptable? How is this "Christian"? Rejoice Christian, where is the Christ-like love you claim to stand for? How do you allow racism to fester in your gym while claiming to be a faith-based institution? The fact that adults in your community found humor in demeaning young Black athletes is a disgrace. This is not a school representing Christ--this is a school enabling racism. To the leadership of Rejoice Christian: What are you doing to address this? What message are you sending to your students, both white and Black? If you are unwilling to hold your community accountable, then your Christianity is nothing more than a hollow title. My son and I love Rejoice Christian Schools. He has had the best experience attending RCS. He has been going to school there since he was 3 years old. Making the decision to send our son to Rejoice Christian School was the best decision we could make for his education. Rejoice offers excellent academic options for core classes and electives. They hold students and staff accountable and this creates an environment conducive to learning. Rejoice is the biggest example of missed opportunity I have seen. Academics are weak. Bullying is rampant, and the kids run the school. My husband and I desperately wanted our children to attend Christian school, but after gutting it out for two years at Rejoice, we decided to enroll our children in Owasso Public Schools. It was the best decision we ever made. It wasn't until our students enrolled in public school that we realized just how behind they were academically. Our children became more confident when they were removed from an environment of constant ridicule over social and economic status. It's a shame that better option does not exist in the Owasso area. read more

We made the move to Rejoice with one as a Freshman and the other in the 8th grade. This was the best move we could have made. Our children have both flourished at Rejoice and their grades have improved. The teachers are involved and very helpful if asked for help. There are tough classes, AP along with college credit crossover options. Our daughter graduated last year and transitioned into college without any problems. One of the things we like about the school they hold true to their code of conduct. If a teacher isn't holding up they don't renew contracts and if a student is violating policy it is addressed. No school is perfect and no matter where you students attend as a parent you must be involved to make a difference. We wouldn't trade the move/change for anything. We sold our house in Tulsa and moved to Owasso just to change schools. Our Junior this year will become a senior with 6 college credits plus whatever he may gain his senior year. We love the school and the environment. read more
