They don't allow MEDICALLY TRAINED SERVICE DOGS for any students who need or have to have one, and on top of that they would only send them to options who are for kids that just need some extra help. Only 5% of our student body has a disability and that including autism. I would rather pay 50k to send my kid to a Catholic high school that I wouldn't even approve of then send them to this school. Respectfully, if your student need extra help(AKA service animals) maybe don't try to send them to options and actual do your job to protect the students more than the teachers. They run it like the government with trump in office, the rich(admin) want to stay rich, while the poor(students) stay poor and underneath them. Young teachers actual can't even do their job because we can't keep politics out of our school and yet isn't church and state separate? If I had a choice I would have just went to Union.(THEY ARE RATED HIGHER AND YET SUPPOSEDLY THEIR SO BAD) Send you kid anywhere else if you don't want them to hate themselves.

One of the worst places I was forced to go for my high-school years. Kids are always smoking weed,…read morevaping and just straight up skipping class in the restrooms. Administration is a horror to deal with; you have to deal with them often, and they never seem to get stuff done. Not trying to complain but if you have the choice, please don't send your kids here. A lot of the stuff I've described is pretty situational but the school overall is pretty poor in quality. Building D is always having some sort of problem, whether it be a water leak or a problem with the air conditioning. Teachers are alright, but not amazing. Spears is one of the worst as she will not grade anything until the last moment, and at that she barely graded anything until after finals. She used to teach as an AP teacher but was demoted due to only 2 kids of her AP class passing. Always seems to be late to class as well. The abundance of kids also doesn't seem to help, especially with this year's incoming sophomore class, as the school has no space whatsoever for them or anyone for that matter.

Sadly, we have decided to withdraw our family from the school…read more Some Pros: Many of the support staff and faculty care about and help one another. Many on staff are clearly called to be in education. Parents and students are often supportive. Most students give effort, listen, and are respectful. Some Cons: The workload for employees is too much for the pay. Such things impact the quality of the education. Administrative assistants are asked to do the job of 2 people for poor pay. 6 different preparations for secondary teachers is considered a "normal load" and elementary teachers may be asked to do some middle school sections or other work for no more pay. Teachers may be asked to "cover" for others during their plans for no additional pay or benefit several times a month. This reported decision also negatively affects the education. The Headmaster has informed teachers that they must teach extra courses for no additional pay in the middle or the end of summer with little time to prepare or be forced out at times. Some teachers have reportedly worked without a contract. Leadership has appeared to try to hide things from teachers, staff, parents, and students. Students and parents sometimes wonder where the Headmaster is. The Headmaster may miss some weeks each semester. Leadership can be thin-skinned and vengeful if a concern is brought up by parents, students, staff, or faculty. Leadership communicates and disciplines poorly. Parts of some floors are crumbling or bowing due to foundational issues. The ceiling leaks in places in hallways, so water drips when it rains. Leadership has placed buckets below leaks for years. So, the school is taking on water, but the leadership lacks work ethic, consistency, kindness, patience, generosity, and vision. A change of leadership could return the school to better days.

If you have therapeutic adopted children or foster care children, know that ILCA isn't equipped to help your kids. Sports are most important at this school. The teachers are full of grace and mercy but to a fault. Since sports are so important, there are so many redos for kids to be eligible to play on these small teams. The standardized test scores were consistently low for my therapeutic adopted son, nearly identical for 3 years straight. One of my biggest regrets has been sending my kids to this school. It's been detrimental to their development. It was a good fit for my daughter in the 3rd grade, but high school was a different story. My daughter is thriving now at her new school academically and spiritually. We didn't know what we didn't have until we had it.
