They also have so many fun activities. The fact that they encourage children to be independent and help them understand the subjects is awesome!!! I am appalled and deeply disturbed by the blatant racism displayed at Rejoice Christian School…read moreduring a recent basketball game against Central High School. According to Coach Ransom, young children in the stands openly made racist remarks, saying things like, "They love chicken wings... They love watermelon... Look at that runaway..."--and instead of stopping it, the parents around them laughed. Even after the coaching staff brought it to the referees' attention and Rejoice Christian's staff supposedly "addressed" it, these kids continued walking down to the Central team's bench to whisper their vile comments directly into the players' ears. How is this acceptable? How is this "Christian"? Rejoice Christian, where is the Christ-like love you claim to stand for? How do you allow racism to fester in your gym while claiming to be a faith-based institution? The fact that adults in your community found humor in demeaning young Black athletes is a disgrace. This is not a school representing Christ--this is a school enabling racism. To the leadership of Rejoice Christian: What are you doing to address this? What message are you sending to your students, both white and Black? If you are unwilling to hold your community accountable, then your Christianity is nothing more than a hollow title. Jesus stood for love, justice, and dignity--your actions stand for neither. Do better. Be better. Or stop pretending to be Christian. Sincerely, Dr. Rogers
