Love Reid's! Stopped in for lunch with my Spousal Unit and we started off with a fabulous smoked chicken and broccoli soup. I had the duck confit tacos; he had grilled oysters from Bekahs Bay NC...both excellent! And the carrot cake muffin is a dense, brandy-soaked delight. Attentive but not intrusive service, nice selection of NC beers on tap, brief seasonal menu. Great place and worth the drive from Boone. read more

My server walked by my food sitting on a counter directly in front of where I was seated multiple times and I never received it until it was ice cold. Came in by myself and was seated by the kitchen which is open. Cooks are not wearing gloves, keep pulling their masks off, and are cursing loud enough for me to hear it while complaining about orders coming in. Food could have been good if it was at least warm. read more

This is a great place. Food and service exceptional, small romantic serving highest quality farm to table. We had dinner but also open for lunch. read more

Not a good experience. $45 flounder entree was literally a whole fish....head, bones and all on a plate, with some cucumbers. It might be funny if it wasn't so expensive. Chicken entree was better, but completely unremarkable. Anything at home would've been better. Cheese tray just wasn't good. read more

We headed here after a strenuous hike at nearby Profile Trail. This cafe has a chalkboard with the daily menu listed - of which all that we ate for lunch was delicious! There's also an array of baked goods to choose from if you'd like a sweet treat. We had a pear tart and it was incredible. Service was patient and attentive (had a young, picky eater with us). Find this little gem for your post hike reward! read more

Three of us had lunch today at Reid's. Below is a grade for each item we were served: Sweet/sour brussell sprouts - AA Duck leg - A- Roasted tomato soup - BB Roasted sweet potatoes - C (This was served cold, thought it was a hot, which would have made a big difference in this dish although only about 1/4 cup of potato, rest was raisins and walnuts) Roast beef sandwich - C (Had gristle in meat, could not eat it on bread because of this) Brownie, Mexican wedding cookie, Coconut macaroon - D (These were all left out uncovered on a counter, macaroon was burned, all the coconut was black, but served anyway; brownie was 2 inches high, part was so hard all the way around it had to be broken open and soft part scooped out; Wedding cookie so dry it crumbled in my hand) - none of these were edible. Total cost, including tip - $60.00 read more

The Hydro Bib Salad...... This is something I wish they could do weekly. From the Bib to the peppers! Unfortunately the ramps are seasonal. My first time having Peruvian Peppers.... tomato like with a little bite. Nice touch that's not your everyday ingredient, but very pleased with the addition. The blue dressing..... very tasty, not overly blue, seasoned well, drinkable. I would like to try with the ramps roasted or diced raw for a little more bite. read more

The smoked chicken sandwich wasn't your ordinary sandwich. And the tomato soup was divine! We were so pleased to have tripped upon Reid's Cafe just before their "spring cleaning" shutdown. We look forward to dinner soon! read more

Reid's catered a big birthday bash for us this past Friday. The food was amazing. Starting with the home made potato chips, chicken and waffles and bison sliders. Dinner consisted of a Garden Salad, Mac and Cheese, pasta salad, Brussels sprout salad, marinated chicken breasts and beef tenderloin!!!! Everything was AMAZING! Even the bread was a crowd pleaser. Also the staff were incredibly attentive and nothing short of fantastic. Thank you Reid's for helping to make our birthday celebration a wonderful event and memory! read more

We were in the area this past weekend for the Highland Games and had heard wonderful things about Reid's. However, we were rudely told that they didn't have any available tables unless we had a reservation. Needless to say this was 7pm on a Friday night and there were only 2 tables occupied in the entire restaurant. I am not sure what kind of business would turn away paying customers so rudely but I found it the epitome of terrible service. read more

Excellent Food, nice atmosphere and the Bartender Brad was great! Will visit again when we are back in the mountains.

Reid's is a breath of fresh air in Banner Elk on 105. The food was amazing. Great quality, intriguing choices, homemade pickles and pickled veggies, and delicious sides along with top quality entrées. Loved the soup too. Simple but high class decor with Mazama pottery and French press coffee. Try it--you'll love it. Can't wait to go back. read more

I was not impressed the first two times but because my husband n girlfriend like this place, I thought I'd try again. I am so glad I did. We had SNITZELL SANDWICH, fabulous read more

This was an amazing lunch! Quick service, really yummy food and nice quaint atmosphere!

Overpriced. Small portion sizes. Also, be weary of ordering the Denver cut steak. I definitely got food poisoning from the steak. Will not be back. read more

Place was clean. Didn't have any kid options. Everything comes with homemade chips. They aren't very good and they don't have any sides to dip them in. Asked for ranch and they didn't have that. Ended up trying their horseradish catsup (they charged me .50) and it was gross. Bread on my turkey sandwich was very stale. It fell apart. Definitely would not go back. read more

Holy cow! So happy we discovered this place, only about 20 minutes from our home. Reid's recently began serving dinner, and we went on their second week of service. Usually dining with a huge group (there were 15 of us in this tiny cafe) is a pain, for the group and the restaurant. Everyone made us feel welcome and accommodated. There was another fairly large group that arrived right after us, and then a few other tables of 1-2 people. With only one server and about 3 kitchen staff (that I saw), the guys did a fantastic job of keeping us happy. Yes, there were some longer than normal wait times for plate clearing or drink refills, but having been in the industry, I know they were running their bums off. The food was fantastic. Boyfriend had the tenderloin with potatoes (off the hook!) and Brussels sprouts. After a ton of apps (served family style to accommodate our large group) of chicken wings (the entire wing) and cheese plate and arancini, I opted for the soup (tomato garlic bisque) and salad. Both were excellent. We also bought a jar of house-made Thaimato hot sauce, which we had last night with a shrimp and veggie stir fry with jasmine rice. Amazing! Not too spicy, and pairs very well with a little Uncle Val's gin over ice. I'm leaving four stars because they could have had one more front-of-the-house staff member to ease things (welcoming people, service, etc), but we will *definitely* be going back for lunch and dinner. If you're in the area, I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Today we had lunch for the first time at Reid's Cafe & Catering. Our daughter hired Tina 9 years ago to cater her wedding. We were so pleased with the delicious food for the wedding and were excited to eat there today. We had tomato garlic bisque soup and salad(very fresh) and it was fantastic! The ambiance of the cafe' is so quaint and chic. We will definitely be going back to enjoy more meals at this great restaurant! read more

See all

We stumbled upon this gem. Open 11-3...delicious food and extremely nice people! We arrived just as they were getting ready to close (after a delightful hike up Grandfather mountain) and they could not have been more accommodating. So glad we took a chance on this. Yummy! :) read more

Don't really know where to start. We were so excited to go after reading all the reviews. Went for lunch and ordered the trout and were told they only had one serving left (30 minutes into lunch service). The trout we did get was TINY not enough food at all. The "roast beef" sandwich was more like a fatty steak sandwich and the lobster roll was not up to par. Won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend. read more

This little cafe has the best food for about 300-400 miles around! I had a flank salad sandwich with fresh made bread and home grown tomatoes that was to die for. For dessert I had a piece of delicious ginger chocolate cake. If I could eat here everyday I would. read more

Curry.chicken.salad.sandwich. So delicious and what I always go in for. However, their other items, lunch and dinner, which change seasonly as to provide local ingredients, are equally yum. I would highly recommend visiting Reid's. I have been more than a dozen times and have only had the best experiences. read more

Great dinner tonight. Everything on the limited but excellent menu seems to be made on site. The potato chowder was wonderful and the peach cobbler the best ever. The closest thing to it was the tarte tarain at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant in London. As good as the food is, the star of the night was our waitress Nicki. I kept trying to get a negative answer but all I ever got was "We can do that." She was a joy. Don't get up here often but a visit to Reid's will always be part of the itinerary. Hopefully Nicki will always be there. It may be Nicky with a Y but Nicki is just cooler, read more

One word-yum. This place was great! The beef tenderloin sandwich was great-biscuit & ham was great, mocha great. The carrot cake muffin tasted great & tremendous icing-but was a bit stale... everything else was wonderful. Loved the staff. read more

This place is a gem! We ordered the butternut squash bisque, salanova greens salad with a side of quinoa, and a curried chicken salad sandwich. Everything tasted divine and the greens were super fresh. Service was fast, the establishment was clean, and we left full and happy. My seven year old son Noah especially loved it. read more

I was in Boone/Sugar Mountain for the weekend to ski and the bartender at the Sugar lodge recommended Reid's Cafe for dinner. I was expecting it to be a local sandwich shop but I was so wrong. Instead, I had the best meal I've had in months. We had the roasted chicken (sounds basic but was anything but) and the porchetta. So good! Beautifully served and prepared. The staff was very friendly and if I lived here, I would eat here all of the time and get them to cater any event I hosted. Upscale food but casual setting. Thanks Reid's for the great meal! read more

My sister had a delicious soup. My sandwich and my brother's sandwich were good. However, as the staff was extremely busy, I took two plates up to the counter, one of which was covered in egg yolk. I was told by the owner or manager, in a sharp tone, to sit down and take the plates back to the table! I was so taken aback that I just stood there for a moment and then the waitress came over and took the plates. Unkind and unprofessional way to talk to anyone. read more
