You only go here if you are serious. Serious about hiking, camping ... the outdoors in general. It's pricy here but for a reason. The quality is pro level and the return policy is as every store should be. This is no Target. No Dave's Sporting Goods. It's where the pros go. That being said, imagine a school or work backpack that lasts. My work backpack has been with me since 2006 and has been stuffed under the seat in front of me on multiple domestic international flights.

I like REI in general -- though their swim section is scarce. Some REI stores are dog friendly, but the Corte Madera Town Center REI is not.

There are runners, joggers, walkers, and lots of amazing birds to watch. The views are spectacular no matter the time of day or season. We've taken several different trails--each loop is roughly 3-4 miles. There are a few benches and some signs explaining the wetland restoration. Some trails lead to the Bay but the drop off is steep except at very high tides. It is a great place to take in the amazing bird life and flora and fauna.

Common avian inhabitants include great blue heron, egret, willet, and marbled godwit. Don't forget to stop by the "hidden swing" located near the northwest corner of "the loop". Please be careful to respect the area - no polluting, littering or dumping. More than 90% of the historic tidal marshes in the San Francisco Estuary have been filled. Given this significant loss of wetlands and wildlife habitat, it is critical that we protect and restore former tidelands like these which can still be easily restored, particularly those that are adjacent to existing marshes and wildlife habitats. Classified as a northern coastal salt marsh, the 620-acre Corte Madera Marsh Ecological Reserve has vegetation consisting of cordgrass, pickleweed, salt grass, coyote bush, gum-plant, marsh rosemary, dock, annual grasses and herbs, and various exotic shrub species.
