EuroAsia is located in a small corridor off Ventura Blvd. so it can be tricky to find. Head west from the shared parking lot with Rasputin market. (A five star Market!) I brought my dog with me for a patio lunch where we sat next to a bubbling fountain and enjoyed a sunny day. The menu here is extensive with grilled fish, stewed meats, soups and salads as well as regional specialties like plov and pelmini dumplings. Everything looks good here. We were offered a complimentary homemade bread which came with smoked salmon cream cheese spread. It was incredible. Five stars. I ordered the compote (a fresh fruit beverage with honey) a bowl of Ukrainian borscht and a whole fish stuffed with crab per the advice of my amazing server. (Thanks!) Everything tasted like it was made with love by a talented grandmorher who was taught the recipes from her grandmother. You know that's the best compliment right? The portions are large enough to share which makes this place a good value. My dog was given a nice bowl of water from the owner which he appreciated. After asking for recommendations and whether I can get a plate of mixed items, the staff ended up not only being unhelpful but demanding in knowing exactly what I wanted (how many pounds of each). The whole experience was intimidating; I ended up leaving without even getting to try anything. It's a small spot indeed, just a few aisles to shop around for ethnic goods - mostly food and beverage. Randomly, though, there's a Trader Joe's sack of pistachios. Maybe I'll come back and give it another chance in the future...

There is no seating inside, however, you have you are welcome to sit at one of the outdoor tables. The Cholent was mediocre. It was missing many of the ingredients typically found in Cholent. On top of that it was both very heavy on the turmeric, but lacking basics such as salt. This may be explained way by the fact that this Cholent appeals to the Ashkenazi crowd who prefer things to be relatively on the bland side. The vegetables were tasty, but what seemed to be warmed vegetables, turned out to be cold vegetables with one exception; the warm okra was mixed in with the cold vegetables. A mistake that can cause problems down the line. The Israeli pitas that were bought to take home and freeze were perfectly good. Of note was the staffs, great attitude, big smiles, and willingness to help and guide. This reviewer however, gets the feeling that if you are not Israeli (that is to say, Hebrew speaker) or Jewish, you'd be lost at the menu and offerings. I've been coming for three years now, and while I'm guilty of ordering my favorites often, I think I'd have a tough time making my way through all of the foods on offer even if I switched it up on each visit. 4 different types of meatballs (the chicken breast one is to die for), lox, cabbage rolls, at least a half dozen cooked seafood options (shout out fish in tomato sauce), stroganoff, 3-4 different types of couscous and plov....and that's only half of the non veggie section. The cakes are great (Black Forest and walnut go hard). The Russian/Ukranian chip flavors rule. There are specialty candies and jarred foods and good looking fruits and veggies. There's an off menu soup with dill and little chicken meatballs that I'd recommend to anyone ailing in a heartbeat. And then, finally, we arrive at the salads and cold veggies. Nonstop bangers. The beet salad with prunes and garlic may sound wild for non Eastern European tastes, but it's unique and addictive and works. The potato salad Olivier? Best potato salad I've ever had. I've found some especially healthy and nutritious food here for my health recovery goals recently. About six years ago, I had been exposed to high levels of radiation according to a good old fashioned Geiger counter. My health began to drastically decline and I became very weak. I could barely stand and I barely survived. I knew about a famous brave Ukrainian woman who had survived radiation exposure thanks to her unborn child. Her survival story led to me requesting female cancer screenings which led to the surgeries that saved my life. Our commitment to the people and values which help us survive the impossible compels us to rise to the occasion of coming back stronger and better than we ever could have accomplished before or alone.
