This review is for Regal Union Square and honestly... it's one of my favorite Regals, period. I love me a Regal in general, but this location? It just hits different. And let's start with the main reason -- 4DX. If you have never seen a movie in 4DX, please go. I'm not even asking, I'm telling you. It's an experience. The seats move, the effects, the whole vibe -- it really pulls you into the movie. I've seen a few films in 4DX here, and every single time it's been a good time. What I also love about this location is that it doesn't feel as overwhelming as some of the bigger theaters, like Times Square. You go to Regal Times Square and it's just... a lot. Crowds on crowds on crowds. And me? I'm an antisocial social butterfly. Sometimes I just want to go to the movies, sit in peace, enjoy my snacks, and be in my own little world. This location lets me do that. The theaters are usually clean, which y'all already know is a big deal for me, and overall, I've consistently had a good experience here. Now let's talk about that upstairs bar -- because yes, they have one. You can grab a drink and really set the vibe for your movie night. Just a heads up though: bring your physical ID. Don't try to show them your ID on your phone -- they're not accepting that. It's their rule, so just come prepared. I will say, the bartender situation can be a little hit or miss. There's one in particular who can come off a little... spicy. Slight attitude, a little slick with it. But if you match energy, you'll be alright -- he adjusts real quick. Still, customer service is customer service, and consistency matters. Another thing I love is that they bring movies back. Like, they really cater to movie lovers. I've seen them do Marvel marathons, bring back the Harry Potter film series films, and even special showings like Demon Slayer: Mugen Train -- which I actually went to see with my son in 4DX, and it was AMAZING. And if you're like me and you love the collectible cups and popcorn buckets? This is the spot. Because somehow, they always have them. Meanwhile, Times Square be sold OUT every time. I haven't been to a real movie theater in a long time but I made my way to Regal one Friday evening to see Project Hail Mary on opening night! The facility is quite large and you have to take a few escalators to get to the main area. It looks pretty cool inside though with the neon lights against the dark background -- reminded me of Space Mountain at Disneyland! The concessions are standard with all your favorite movie snacks and fountain drinks. There's also a full alcohol bar by the escalators with some seating for 21+ folx to relax and hang out. I took another escalator up to go into my theater and was taken aback by how massive the room was! The plush leather seats were a bright red hue. There was plenty of leg room between aisles and roomy arm rests with flat surfaces for convenience. The recline on the seats was sufficient and I was ready to enjoy the movie. Oh and the sound quality was spectacular. I thoroughly enjoyed my movie night at Regal. The reception and concession staff were all very friendly, and the theater was clean and maintained very well. Many times I reported a stalker, harassment by another patron, someone in my assigned seats and nothing was done, except for blaming me, harassing me over months and then kicking me out, after I called the police since they refused to do anything. Although I have seen many films at Regal Battery Park which is my favorite theater, Regal Union Square comes in as a strong 2nd Place finisher. Regal Union Square is in a convenient location, & is easily accessible via the 4,5,6,N,L,Q & R lines I have seen the U.S. Advanced Film Screening of "On Swift Horses" @ Regal Union Square in April 2025, the recent screening of the movie "Re-Election" starring Director/ Actor Adam Saunders & the Advanced Film Screening of Eternity which will come out on Thanksgiving Day. The Screenings were shown in different theaters. Each theater was clean w/ comfortable leather seats & had good audio / visual quality. Re-Election also had a Q + A that followed once the film ended. During that time, Director/ Actor Adam Saunders joined others in the cast - Actress/ Comedian Extraordinaire Kym Whitley & Legend Tony Danza, Bex Taylor-Klaus & Rizwan Manji (Rizwan was hilarious in Schitts Creek). They talked about the film, their roles in it, how some of the lines were improvised as they were filming, etc. A Good Q+A! Clean bathroom facilities have been observed / used at Regal Union Square. Regal Union Square Staff have been friendly & helpful, especially when providing information. This is typically my go to theater. I've had problems in the past with long lines due to them being understaffed or slow employees but today they had what appeared to be some new employees who were quick and had the lines moving. Regal always has the best merch and I couldn't wait to get my hands on some cool sonic memorabilia. The popcorn was buttery and fresh, and the service was great. This may be my first visit here but I've been to another theater with 4DX. Walking in this theater I find it very attractive and they offer an escalator and an elevator. At the concession there's a bar on floor 3. I had popcorn which was not to tasty and it contained a lot of Kernel's in the middle of the popcorn tub. I had a hotdog as well. For the price of $7.49 for Nathan's hotdog is ridiculious . I would expect a jumbo hotdog instead. I only have 3 words to explain why they charge this price.... Location, location, location! Watching The Fantastic Four First Steps was inundated. Trying to enjoy the movie in 3D and hold on for dear life became more of a routine tasked. The seats move, shack, spurts water and air. It was entirely to much like a roller coaster ride. I would have enjoyed a regular seat, but I guess I can't really complain because I was treated to the movie and the popcorn and hotdog was free for me but my friends had 2 hotdogs each . The recent renovation of this theater is a huge improvement from the original 1990's condition. But many of these 90's auditoriums are long and narrow, so a lot of screens looks small unless you sit up front. This theater has many premium formats and they all seem like silly gimmicks to me - none are worth paying extra. "Screen X" is an ultra wide format where the image wraps around onto the side walls. The side screens are projected from little machines on the ceiling that have washed out colors and often blurry. The viewing perspective does not match between the three screens, so the combined image always looks skewed out of whack. It is the most annoying movie going experience ever. Another premium format is "4DX" - this is Regal's attempt at an amusement park ride, with seats that move, fans that blow heat and odors, and it even splashes water at you. You should read the fine print about Regal Cinemas not being responsible for any injuries you may suffer. Ridiculous. The third premium format is "RPX" - this is Regal's excuse to charge extra for their biggest screen. Theaters didn't use to do that, but I guess they're getting desperate these days. Somehow even "Unlimited All Access" members need to pay extra - so I guess that membership isn't truly 'unlimited' or 'all access'. read more

I've seen a couple of my favorite movies at this Regal, and will now remember it forever as the place where my little TV show premiered. My work product is like 95% overly detailed Yelp reviews, but I am also a working writer. The project that has consumed my last four years is a spy drama called Butterfly, now streaming on Amazon Prime. We had our global premiere at Regal Union Square last week, and it was a great venue for the event. There was a red (actually, gray) carpet upstairs, and the whole place got plastered with our posters. The theater was excellent. Comfortable seating and high quality sound and picture. I remember liking this place from back in the day, and my opinion of it still stands. I don't live in New York and am unlikely to come back to the Regal for another fancy event, but I'd love to catch more movies here down the line. read more

Loved the service of the concession help and manager. Came into this theater on Tuesday and didn't know it was "Regal discount day". As explained to me from the concession person, you can get a 50% discount on popcorn and admission on Tuesday, just need to download the app and sign up for free. So after doing this i did get the discount on my popcorn. But then she suggested she could call the manager to refund me my non discounted tickets to the theater as well. I'd say that was great customer service! The theater was good but disappointed that there were no reclining seats. read more

A pretty cool theater all around. I'm used to theaters being wide, but because we're in the city they are multiple floors so that was a different feel. I don't know if I just got lucky, but I actually met Ariana Grande's mom at the movie theater at the premiere of wicked, so I suspect that this is a popular theater amongst celebrities and family lol. I saw Wicked in ScreenX and that was an interesting experience. I don't know if I would see a screen X movie again, especially because the exit signs on the wall made it so distracting, but it was cool to do for the sake of the experience. read more

I'm a Regal Unlimited member and this is one of the few Regal Cinemas I frequent. It's in an awesome location in the middle of everything in Union Square. It's huge. 4 floors with ticket kiosks and Lavazza coffee/ice cream on the first floor and the theaters and concessions on the 3rd and 4th. Yes, concessions here are pricey, just as they are in any movie theater in NYC. I highly suggest joining their Unlimited program. You get 10% off concessions if you do. This location has more stuff at their concessions than other Regals do. They sell fleece blankets here! This location also has Q&A events that not many other Regals do. The prices are also the same for those events as the regular movies are so that's a plus. The one negative about this Regal is the seating. It's old and dated. Not the nice recliners like at the Delancey Regal. They manually recline about an inch back but that's about it. Sound and picture in the theaters are great, though! Tip if you're attending a Q&A event in the theaters on the top floor. Sit either right in the front(sucks during the actual movie, but worth it for afterwards) or in the back. If you sit in the middle, you'll have to stand to see the actors due to the floor being low up front. It's always nice and clean here with tidy, old Hollywood themed bathrooms. Although, some of the locks don't work. This is a pretty great theater that will see me back many more times. read more

This was my first Regal experience outside of the DMV, and I must say I was impressed!! It wasn't all that crowded, so it was a seamless process going up the escalators and picking up snacks. But what really stood out to me was the fact that they had a bar in there. It was on the lower floor (I wish it was upstairs haha), but they had a BAR! Is that how Regals party outside the DMV? These laws man. This theater is pretty accessible since it's so close to a train station, and if you don't want theater food or snacks it's very easy to have a meal nearby. No line and the theatre was on the same floor as the Concessions, on the top floor. We ordered mozzarella sticks and a drink. I ordered a hot dog as well but there were none. After I paid and was waiting on the mozzarella sticks we were told that the kitchen was closed? I just ordered and paid for it. We were told to go to the lower level to get it and there were so many people and a long line. We asked to get the Doritos and cheese instead since we waited a long time already and had to wait longer for the cheese sticks to be ready while the movie has already started and was missing it. This woman with short blonde hair and glasses gave attitude saying that there's a price difference. I didn't care if there was. I'm missing the movie that was paid for. It seemed very unorganized and if your workers are overwhelmed, management needs to do better. There's no reason for a worker to behave like that to a guest. read more

Pros: one of my favorite coffee brands has an outpost right in the lobby of the theater behind the ticket machines. We were there to watch Despicable Me 4 and a worker dressed as a Deadpool posed for a photo with my kid. Just before this, another nice theater worker flagged me down to let me know that Deadpool was walking around and to make sure I go and get a photo now before he gets bombarded again: I loved the bar right outside of my theater. Honestly, that made it completely worth it for me to utilize this theater for my son's viewing experience. Cons: I guess because it was early, no food was available for purchase other than popcorn and sweets. That was a bummer but not a huge deal since it's Union Square and there is plenty to eat in the area. We ended up grabbing food after the movie ended. Pricing: Well, it's Union Square and it's a "premium" theater because of the alcoholic beverages on site and the location of the theater itself. It was my first time ever coming to Regal Union Square despite being a native New Yorker. I plan to return again and take in another film when I feel like making the movie watching experience more special than usual. read more

As a native NYer of 37 years I can pinpoint the EXACT age I was the last time I was here and it was when I was 17 rushing after work to a packed theatre to see Bad Boys II with my bestie of that era. What a nostalgic ride. Meanwhile my daughter who is 16 got me to book tickets to see a childhood favorite of hers Coraline. This was a big day for them and they failed. A day when they had a pre-screening of two movies and it was a circus. They didn't have enough staff on hand to man the concession stands. The line was extremely long and things took forever. They had to many closed registers. Management should have planned for extra staff to be present. read more

The experience was okay at this Regal due to a lot of reasons. One being the seats; they are not very comfortable as they were too hard to stretch for comfort. Another one was the cafe. The service was faster but the bags in which they serve popcorn were of low quality as they tore because of the weight. Definitely needs improvement in these areas. Went there for Migration movie preview show whose organizers were amazing. They gave a rubber duck as goodie to everyone who made it to the list and made sure they were all seated. read more

It has been over a decade since I last reviewed this theater and a *lot* has changed! In recent years, Regal has extensively renovated this theater. They did not just spruce it up. Entire sections have been torn out and rebuilt, creating a theater that looks like a futuristic nightclub from a Cyberpunk movie. Walls and columns are lit up with colorful LED lighting and video screens. Movie posters and trailer segments play on screens everywhere and the lighting is dark to give the LED lighting a chance to literally shine. It is very striking and I will say it is a definite step up from the previous incarnation of this theater. Ticketing is no longer handled by people. There is a bank of ticket kiosks in the lobby. The old ticket booths are completely gone and instead there is now a Lavazza Cafe in their place with a small bar seating area across from it. There are still people there to scan your QR codes if you purchased your tickets online of course. Snacks are still purchased at a traditional snack counters. For Coke fans, you're out of luck. Regal is a Pepsi shop, but hey, at least they have Pepsi Zero so I was happy about that. Being a guy who mostly goes to AMC theaters which have the machines where you can mix and create your own soda flavors, I did find the selection of drinks rather limited however. That said, the popcorn was much tastier than AMCs and the butter was better quality too. The theater I sat in had nice big cushioned seats that were (oddly) orange in color. I was surprised at how bright they were but it didn't matter once the lights went down. Unlike the seats at many AMC theaters however they do not have any controls to heat them or make them recline. Instead you just push back on it and it goes back at an angle. I was comfortable so it was fine. I'm a scifi fan so the look of this place post-renovation looks good to me but some other folks might find all the flashing lights and screens a bit overwhelming. Your mileage will vary. The staff was very efficient and nice. The snack counter cashier who helped me was good about answering questions so kudos to her. If you're in the area and want to check out a flick, this is a cool place to do it! read more

Sad to read about so many complaints, but my experience here was great. We booked the theatre 12 for a 3D viewing of Wish and had a great time. The place was almost empty and the seats couldn't have been more comfortable. Make sure to book the first row of the gallery sets... amazing view! The restrooms are kept clean and the staff is helpful. I left my wallet on the seat and when I got back they were able to find it with all my IDs (although the cash was missing). I'm not much of a movie-goer anymore, but I'd definitely return. read more

Back then, I believe the Trader Joe's opened on Irving and then Walgreens and the Union Square Wine Store. Well, today my friend and I came to see The Holdovers and the showtimes here were better than other theaters. Nice to know that matinees are discounted to $15.25. A lot has changed: 1. Everyone is in the hospitality business and the focus is coffee cafe. Here there is a Lavazza Coffee Cafe. I drink Lavazza daily from my home. I don't think I will be purchasing it at a movie theater. I didn't check the prices but I can bet a cup is what I I pay for a pound of it. Btw the Angelika had this concept now for three decades 2. Kiosks: there was a technical issue with buying tickets and couldn't scan my Crown Club card to receive points and kiosk stated there were no showtimes for The Holdovers. We almost walked out but rechecked Fandango App which confirmed 11:40am showtime. Which leads to .. 3. Customer Service: we took escalator up in hopes of finding assistance. This Regal is sleek, futuristic with flashy neon signs etc. The ticket taker radioed another employee near concession stand to assist us. Ariel was truly great.. she assisted us with our tickets and confirmed kiosk glitch 4. Reserved Seating:, this is for ALL theaters: WHY? If you are doing this then patrons should be able to order food from seat like Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg has been doing for years. 5. Seating: refurbished orange leather seats. Pretty comfy. 6. Cleanliness: Spotless 7. Restrooms: ample stalls for ladies ( very important) and very clean 8. Value: I'm not convinced spending $20 or $15 matinee prices is worth it anymore. I'll spend it for a movie I really want to see with actors in it that I am a true fan of, otherwise I wait for it to come to Prime. Let's face it, post- COVID has really changed movie outings... 9. Promos: which leads to get rid of BOGO popcorn Tuesdays and give a movie goer better incentives like double reward points for weekly visits or BOGO tickets for Crown Club members 10. Future: I'm unsure about movie outings to any theater. I really prefer Brooklyn, say BAM. I think the movie industry is greedy and prices have gone through the roof. This regal location definitely got a facelift after all the years it stood. It feels fancier with the specialized coffee place with the leather couches. So, you can still be comfortable when you're waiting for friends to make their movie selection by the kiosk. And for anyone tech challenged, there are staff there to help, attentively. I was here to see my long waiting anime movie today, which I purchased a month in advance. But apparently the show time got canceled and I wasn't notified by email like I was told I should have been. I showed up in the afternoon and the next subbed showtime wasn't playing until 8pm. The staff that helped me with this situation was friendly, apologetic, considerately thoughtful, and accommodating in every sense of the word. And the first miracle of 2023 lol, I can honestly say she left me with no complaints. She was the deciding factor of a 2-3 or a 4 star rating. I was honestly on the edge of a 3 star rating. Now back to the theater, it feels like three floors, but the escalators took up half a floor each; so, it gave that falsehood of its scale. However, the staff said it's technically four floors. There are bathrooms on every floor and concessions, but mainly open on 3rd floor; the bar is only on the 3rd floor as well and it was closed before 10pm tonight. The sad news is that I didn't see any happy hour promotions. On the 3rs floor: you get their 4DX, and Screen X (3 screens, extra wide like a panorama wrap around) experiences. The Auditoriums on the top floor (aka 4th FL) contain mostly the double-digit theaters 17-11, RPX, surround sound and bigger screen. Con: Their Wi-Fi is listed but never any connection, so it's such a lie. Fix it or remove it!! Their kiosk membership card scan doesn't exactly link up with their apps properly. My purchase didn't show up with reminders, showtime cancellations and it took a minute just to find the purchase transaction in general. Their imitation red seats aren't comfortable, and nothing like the AMC lazy boy chair experience. The seats were either sitting straight or the slight tilt of 25 to 30 degrees towards the back seat shift. It just felt like a bad economy class plane seat, that's more American obesity hips accommodating. The lights were blindingly bright like walking into a jewelry store, just stare into some high beam lights . Pro: Clean bathroom, no funky smells, everything was properly stocked and their stalls have sanitary toilet cover sheets mounted on the wall. I've been here to see a handful of movies, most recently "The Equalizer 3". The theater is relatively easy to get to, and it's spacious. The employees check the inside of your bag and your tickets at the entrance before you head to your respective theater. I do enjoy the reclining chairs, however, it's always cold inside of the theater. I've gotten spoiled from dine-in theaters such as I-pic and Alamo, therefore, I will normally choose those theaters over Regal or AMC. read more

First time coming back since it's renovation. Really awesome interior design (see pics) and recliner seats. I wish the seats were automated but all is well. Lavazza (coffee store/shop) is inside of this location, so ensure you're standing on the right line for tickets.
