Ever since then, save for when I was in school far out of state or had grown my hair to such a length that going to a men's hair stylist was just not reasonable, I have gone to Robert's to get my ears lowered. It's exactly what you expect from a classical barbershop: good conversation, friendly customers, and honestly excellent haircut at the end of it. Sometimes you have to wait a while, as Robert is the only guy actually working his shop, but it's worth it if you have the time, and he's willing to stay a little after closing hours if you rush in before he shuts the door.

Robert is always friendly and ready to chat, and always has new stories to share each time you visit. He is the only barber in his shop, which means the quality is consistent, but at busy times the wait will be long (a haircut takes about 20 minutes). Overall, Robert is the best and definitely worth a try.

On my previous visit for full color, the stylist did not apply the tint I had approved but a mix with a darker shade which she did not consult me about. i heard the words, trust me, over and over, and now my hair is lifeless, refuses to curl. i did not want highlights, I wanted the color I agreed to applied to my roots; instead, next thing I know, there's foil on my hair and she's doing highlights I did not ask for, supposedly to remedy the dark color I had not requested. if you want to be dominated by a hairdresser, by all means go there. the bill will reflect her decisions, not yours. i don't have time to shampoo before my business meeting at noon, so I'm stuck. Thanks, Eva. I'm protesting the charge. 'Generally, argan oil is great for medium to thick, coarse hair," Vaccaro says. "It's also great for frizzy hair." However, if you have fine, thin hair, Vaccaro advises using a super small amount or avoiding argan oil altogether because finer hair might get too weighed down with oil.Jul 6, 2023"

I give a slight edge to Damien in the skills department but you really can't go wrong with either. The location is large, very clean, and because it's in a strip mall, parking is a breeze. I'm not sure how things worked prior to COVID but they're currently only taking reservations (no walk-ins) and do not have a website. You can book online if you go through a link on their Instagram page though. My criticism is that i've experienced a number of places in NYC that for $20-25 you get the same quality haircut but also a hot towel and are offered a beer or shot while you wait. They have neither and were charging $30 when I got my first two cuts there. Their prices are now up to $40. There's a ton of independent barbers around Bergen county (and NYC) with excellent reviews that are still charging $25 for a great haircut. I typically get my haircut every 4-6 weeks so I can't justify a $40 haircut, especially at an average no-thrills barbershop.

A few days after purchasing it, I needed a last-minute blowout for an event and couldn't get in with my usual salon. I called Salon JM and tried to make an appointment to use the voucher the following day. They couldn't accommodate me for the cut and color portion, but only had time for a blowout. I asked if making this appointment would prevent me from using the Groupon at a later date (since the fine print said it was for new customers). I was told it was fine, since I had purchased the Groupon as a new customer, and I was going for a different service. I reconfirmed this in person when I went for the blowout. Imagine my surprise when I called back a couple weeks later to make an appointment for the deal and was told they would not honor it. Again, I explained that I WAS a new customer when the deal was purchased, and the only reason I had gone for just a blowout before redeeming the deal was because I couldn't get an appointment for the whole thing. They weren't even open to using the amount of the voucher towards the full price of the service - I would have been fine with that! Instead, I was told to deal with Groupon, and then they hung up on me. They didn't even ask if I wanted to proceed without the deal! It's a shame because they did a nice job with the blowout, but I would absolutely not go back here. Clearly they aren't interested in the business. There are enough salons in this area - I don't need to deal with one that's rude and sketchy.
