I initially came to Dr. Peter after tearing my calf muscle playing pickleball, and at the time, I could barely walk. He started me on a progressive strengthening program that I continued both at home and during our weekly sessions. What I really appreciated was that I still felt like I was strength training and building the muscles needed to support my recovery, rather than simply waiting for my injury to heal. I also came in with a more chronic knee condition, chondromalacia. Once my calf was completely healed, Dr. Peter shifted his focus toward rehabilitating and strengthening the muscles that support my knee. The results have been incredible. Not only was I able to return to pickleball, but I'm now able to play basketball at full speed as well. Dr. Peter is not your ordinary physical therapist. As someone who is active and athletic, I needed a PT who understood that mindset and wanted to help me get back to doing the activities I love--not just get me to a point where I could function day to day. I've seen physical therapists in the past and sometimes felt like I could do the exercises on my own, but Dr. Peter brought a wealth of knowledge, individualized attention, and a progressive approach that made a real difference in my recovery and strength. I'm stronger, more confident in my body, and able to do the sports I love again. I highly recommend Dr. Peter to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, performance-minded physical therapist who truly understands athletes and active people! read more

I had almost given up on physical therapy until I started working with Dylan. I came in for chronic shoulder pain and sprained ankle and was trying to get back to trail running. Dylan's approach is different than traditional physical therapy and has completely changed my rehab. He took into account how the different muscles and systems work together in my body, helping me regain mobility while also build strength to support the activities that I want to do. I live an hour away and still make the drive consistently to see Dylan because his approach is that effective. If you're an athlete or just someone who want to move and perform better, Regain PT is where you want to go! read more

Dylan is a miracle worker. I have an old weight lifting injury that resulted in back surgery. When I re-aggravated it, I was sure I was going to have to go under the knife again, or would at least need more epidural steroid injections. I was just hoping Dylan could help me manage some of the pain. His combination of physical therapy focusing on the point of the injury, and a staged personal training regimen to strengthen my supporting muscles has me back to where I was before my recent episode without a trip to my orthopedic surgeon. Surprised at was he was able to do and very grateful. I will be seeing Dylan's and following his training regimens indefinitely and am happy to know that if I ever do something stupid again and hurt myself, he can fix that too. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Dylan and Regain Performance Physical Therapy. I initially saw him years ago for some chronic hip pain I had for ten years. He resolved that issue with me and I eventually stopped seeing him. Fast forward two years and I had some more shoulder issues crop up, along with a sprained ankle I wanted to rehab. I went back to the old practice only to find out he no longer worked there because he went to open his own. I decided to try out a new PT since I had good results with that practice in the past. After about 6 sessions with very limited progress, I decided to leave that PT and reached out to Dylan. Within a couple of session my shoulder was feeling 80% better and it is stronger than ever now. He worked one on one with me for months, adjusting my plan as necessary and always challenging me to push myself to get to the goal I wanted to reach. He has a wealth of knowledge, always answering every question with care and patience, and helping me gain more confidence in my physical capabilities through instruction and practice. He approaches his work with such attention to detail and passion that it's no wonder he is such a great physical therapist. If you're in need of a PT, Dylan is the best around. read more

I started physical therapy at Regain Performance Physical Therapy because I was experiencing lower back pain whenever I ran. Running is a big part of my life, and after previous physical therapy experiences where unsuccessful, I was simply told, "Don't run," I was beginning to think I'd have to give up a sport that I enjoy both recreationally and competitively with my spouse. Working with Dr. Peter Dorricott was a completely different experience. From the very first visit, he performed a thorough assessment of my mobility and, more importantly, took the time to truly listen. Rather than treating only the symptoms, he focused on understanding the underlying causes of my pain. He developed a personalized treatment plan that evolved as I improved instead of prescribing the same exercises week after week. Every session built on the progress we had already made. The results have exceeded my expectations. My lower back pain has been eliminated, and as an unexpected bonus, my chronic knee pain has significantly improved as well. I can now walk upstairs without any pain, feel stronger than I ever have, and my running has reached a new level. Since completing therapy, I've set a personal record at the San Francisco Half Marathon and even placed first in my age group at a local Bay Area race. If you're looking for a physical therapist who is committed to finding the root cause of your pain, creating an individualized plan, and helping you achieve meaningful, lasting results, I highly recommend Regain Performance Physical Therapy. Dr. Peter Dorricott helped me get back to doing what I love--and performing better than I ever thought possible. read more

I started physical therapy at Regain Performance Physical Therapy in May 2026, about 16 months after undergoing left shoulder surgery in early February 2025. Although the surgery was successful, I was still experiencing range-of-motion issues that were preventing me from doing the things I enjoy most, especially weight training and staying active. I also continued to have pain and stiffness, so I knew I needed the right guidance to regain my mobility, strength, and confidence. Working with Peter made a tremendous difference in my recovery. From the beginning, he took the time to understand my goals, explain the purpose behind each exercise, and tailor my rehabilitation as I progressed. I never felt like I was following a generic program. He challenged me when I needed it, adjusted my program as I improved, and always made sure I understood why we were doing each exercise. Today, I'm back in the gym lifting weights again and have made tremendous progress in my strength and shoulder function. I'm able to bench press and perform overhead movements again with little to no pain--something I wasn't sure would be possible after surgery. I have excellent mobility, very little pain, and the confidence to train hard again. Just as importantly, I've learned how to keep my shoulder healthy and avoid future problems. I can't thank Peter and everyone at Regain Performance Physical Therapy enough for helping me get back to the active lifestyle I enjoy. Their professionalism, expertise, and genuine commitment to their patients are second to none. If you're recovering from surgery or dealing with an injury, I highly recommend Regain Performance Physical Therapy. They played a huge role in helping me get back to doing what I love. read more

I came to Regain Performance PT for a shoulder injury from a bike accident about eight years ago. It wasn't properly cared for at the time, and it kept getting worse. I'm an active guy (ice hockey, cycling, calisthenics), so a bad shoulder was a real problem. Before finding Peter, I'd tried massage, other bodywork, and even some other physical therapy. Nothing really cracked it. What made the difference with Peter was his approach. Instead of a quick fix over a couple of sessions, he mapped out a plan over several months. I could feel real progress week after week. He was attuned to where I was at each stage and pushed me in a positive way, exactly when I needed it. My shoulder is in a completely different place now. I hope I don't get injured again, but if I do, I'm going straight back to Peter. Highly recommend Regain Performance PT if you want someone who treats the root of the problem, not just the symptoms. read more

This is my second time seeing Dr. Dylan. I first saw him a few years ago for a shoulder injury, and after working with him I recovered completely. When I developed another injury that had been bothering me for over a year I knew was time to go back to physical therapy. Before returning to Dr. Dylan, I had tried another physical therapist in my area, but unfortunately my injury became significantly worse. Dr. Dylan is absolutely worth the 45-minute drive. I work out five days a week, including running, lifting, and erging, and I had injured a muscle in my hip that was causing pain in my knee as well. By the time I decided to return to physical therapy, I hadn't been able to squat or run since the injury. Dr. Dylan took the time to identify the root cause, explain what was going on, and create a treatment plan that worked. After working with him, I'm back to running without pain and squatting again. What really stood out to me was that he even checked in with me about a month after I completed therapy to make sure everything was still going well. That level of care says a lot. As long as Dr. Dylan is within driving distance, he'll always be my go to physical therapist. read more

I started seeing Peter after developing a back injury that left me worried about whether I'd be able to get back to the activities I love, especially tennis and golf. Over about 10 weeks and 10 sessions, Peter helped me regain strength, flexibility, and confidence in my body. What impressed me most was how personalized his approach was. He didn't just hand me a generic exercise program. He took the time to understand my goals, listened to my concerns, and adjusted my treatment based on how I was progressing. He is incredibly knowledgeable, but also very engaging and easy to work with. He always followed up on previous issues and paid attention to the details. Today I'm back playing tennis and golf and feeling much stronger overall. The improvement has been significant, and I credit Peter with helping me get there safely. If you're looking for a physical therapist who is skilled, thoughtful, and truly invested in his patients' success, I highly recommend him. read more

I sought out Dr. Dylan after being referred by a beach volleyball friend who swore by this Dr. of Physical Therapy! I had a very bad groin injury and had tried many other things: ART, Myofascial release, acupuncture and lifting on my own to help heal it but nothing was working. After just my first visit I felt so hopeful and he gave me such a clear path forward that I was confident his plan would work! He is thorough, patient and genuinely cares about getting you back to doing what you love! I am so grateful to be back to playing beach volleyball and now getting stronger than before! read more

I'm a software professional, which means I spend a lot of my day sitting at a desk, but I'm also a very active athlete involved in CrossFit and heavy weightlifting. I was struggling with herniated and bulging discs that were causing recurring back issues. It was incredibly debilitating and discouraging, especially because I just wanted to perform and enjoy the gym. Before coming to Regain Performance, I saw several other physical therapists who all gave me the same frustrating advice: stop doing everything and just focus on recovery. That wasn't an option for me. Dylan was completely different. He understood my need to stay active. Instead of telling me to stop, he provided a tailored plan that allowed me to remain active while I recovered. He was highly engaged, always available to give me tweaks and updates between sessions, and really took the time to understand my specific needs. Thanks to his diligence, I've been able to build back up, remain healthy, and I still use the exercises he gave me to this day. If you want a therapist who actually supports your active lifestyle rather than shutting it down, go see Dylan!!! read more

The physical therapy from Regain Performance has been an investment with a high return on my health. Leading up to my first appointment with Dr. Dylan, I was dealing with frequent hip pain and a recurring shoulder injury. Several months into the program, my sciatic flare-ups improved from previously debilitating pain to minor annoyances. Hip pain and limping that used to last weeks at a time now clear within a day or two. My improved mobility has also come with strength gains thanks to the holistic training approach. Dr. Dylan continuously adapts the prescribed exercises with different implements, resistance, and angles based on how my body reacts, adjusting with safe, incremental progressions--and regressions, when needed. He ensures that I have clarity on new movements and that the program load is reasonable and adapted to both my occupational needs and athletic aspirations. I'm confident that continuing his treatment plan will extend my years of active living and make me more resilient to future joint issues. For context, I spent more than a decade failing to address my sciatica, starting with an ineffective cortisone injection followed by alternative therapies and a myriad of medications, supplements, and gadgets that provided at best only temporary relief. I had even been following exercise principles that turned out to be counterproductive. I'm convinced these bad habits had a long-term creep effect that would've continued their destructive course had I not met Dr. Dylan. A customized movements program and specific resistance training were the medicine my body actually needed. This approach requires specialized knowledge and strong intuition. For that, I highly recommend Regain Performance to anyone seeking a reboot for their joint pain. read more

When I came to Dylan, I had the mindset that I would never physically be right again. I had nagging left wrist, shoulder and elbow injuries that had impacted me for years. In my first session with Dylan, I couldn't put any weight on my left wrist. Not even for 5 seconds. Dylan assured me that he could help me. I trusted Dylan's assessment and I am so glad that I did. Each week, I've seen progress. Not only was I strengthening the problem areas, but I was also becoming more confident mentally with my body. Fast forward a few months and I'm in a place physically that I thought I could never get back to. Dylan's meticulous assessment, plan, treatment mixed with his caring approach has truly changed my life. I'm still working with Dylan to achieve even bigger goals and I would highly recommend giving him a shot if you've been through something similar! read more

I've had a great experience. I was having a lot of trouble with recurrent pain in my calf, eventually diagnosed as a soleus injury, as well as a rotator cuff injury. Even after I'd partially recover, I'd reinjure myself when returning to activity. Working with Dr. Dylan has allowed me to return to full function and move past injury recovery and back into pushing for improvement. This isn't just a one and done consultation, but a partnership in setting and reaching goals. read more

I really can't say enough positive things about Dr. Dylan. After basically ignoring plantar fasciitis in my left foot for many months, I finally limped my way into Regain Performance at the recommendation of a friend. Kaiser had previously advised stretching and sleeping in a boot, neither of which was helping. In fact, the pain was becoming much worse, progressing to the point where it was painful to even drive or sit at my desk. Dr. Dylan explained right away that I actually needed to build strength in my feet and calves instead of just relying on stretching. He showed me some simple strengthening exercises which we built on over the next few months. I noticed improvement right away, though the pain continued to flare up at first. Still, I kept on limping into my weekly appointments and doing my exercises at home, while continuing to notice improvement. I'm super happy to report that by the end of two months I was able to walk pain-free for miles a day on a two- week trip to Italy! Dr. Dylan then gave me a schedule and a set of exercises to gradually begin running again, and I've now been able to run a couple of times for the first time in over a year, which feels amazing. I should add that I'm 64 and have also begun having knee issues. Here again, Dr. Dylan strongly emphasized the need for strength training rather than just stretching in order to avoid pain and reduce the risk of injury as I get older. I've incorporated his routine into my time at the gym and am already noticing knee improvement. Dr. Dylan really knows his stuff and is very good at explaining the mechanics of what he is prescribing and exactly why it is needed and how it is helping. He is also incredibly personable and fun to work with! He's a great listener, and I've felt very at ease during my appointments with him. In short, run (or limp!) in today to see Dr. Dylan at Regain Performance. You'll definitely be glad you did! read more

Following a ski injury, a colleague referred me to Regain Performance when I was unable to achieve the recovery I expected on my own. By the end of my first session, Dr. Dorricott had identified the rotator cuff issue that was plaguing me and gave me a clear 'first step' exercise program. I committed to a 10-week plan- weekly sessions with Dr. Dorricott plus exercises at home 2 to 3 days a week- and for the first time, PT worked for me. His continual assessment, adjustments, and push got me where I wanted to be: 80% mobility by week 6, 99% by week 9, and fully recovered by my last session. I actually came out stronger than I started and with a routine I can continue to maintain strength and guard against future injury. The quality of care, personalized program and ease of scheduling through Regain was top notch. Thank you! read more

I am a 57-year-old active woman who has been an avid runner, hiker, and periodic resistance trainer for more than 30 years. Throughout that time, I've dealt with many injuries--including persistent sciatica for about five years, which I always blamed on not stretching enough. I first made an appointment with Dylan after seeing my doctor for a herniated disc and months of severe, sleep-interrupting shoulder pain (shoulder/biceps tendonitis). My expectations for physical therapy were low, but I knew I needed to do something. From the very beginning, Dylan approached things differently. He tested my mobility, explained what was contributing to my pain, and laid out a clear and thoughtful plan. The focus on mobility was completely new to me, but I was willing to try anything that might help. I've now been working with Dylan for two years, and I am genuinely amazed by the transformation. I am pain-free, stronger, running faster, and finally able to sleep through the night again. After seeing such incredible improvements myself, I brought my daughter to him as well. She's a former gymnast with chronic back pain who has seen many physical therapists over the last decade and was skeptical at first. Now she, too, is amazed by the progress she's made. It's hard to express how life-changing it feels to be pain-free again and how grateful I am to have found Dylan. Beyond being exceptionally skilled, he is also a genuinely kind, patient, and easy-to-talk-to person. I truly can't recommend him highly enough. read more

I do some hiking but am mostly desk bound with computer work "unbalancing" my body. I go to my local gym every weekday, but developed a sharp pain in one of my shoulders when I lifted my arm. I tried easing off the strength training, but the pain continued. My doctor advised physical therapy and a friend told me about a great experience they had with Regain Performance. I started working with Dr. Peter Dorricott, who calibrated my baseline and began a series of specialized exercises that directly addressed my problem. He monitored every element of each session with regard to safety, progression of improvement and equipping me with meticulous notes to carry on my recovery routine. My pain melted away and now I can look forward to a healthier life supplied with an effective antidote to what was ailing me. read more

I originally came to Dylan upon recommendations from several of my friends that I go to the gym with. I had been dealing with knee issues during running and from weightlifting/squatting. They had all gone or currently see Dylan to treat miscellaneous injuries or things they're recovering from. Prior to seeing Dylan I had seen several physical therapists and researched various exercises that were supposed to help my knee/hip issues I've been dealing with the past few years but nothing seemed to help it get better. Fast forward to 3 months since first meeting and 10 sessions later, I can 100% recommend anyone who is frustrated with an injury and wants to feel better. Not only has my hip/knee issues gotten better but I've been able to train the hardest I have in years. Every session I've had with Dylan he will listen attentively to truly understand the issues you're dealing with. Rather than try to throw out cookie cutter exercises or routines, he makes sure to customize each session so that it is helping to make you better. If at any time in between sessions you need advice or support he's been available thru text as well. I cannot recommend Dylan highly enough. If I could, I would give him 6 stars. If you're on the fence like I was about seeing another physical therapist because nothing seemed to work in the past, see Dylan. At the minimum he can give you a consultation for an honest assessment to see if it's a good fit and if he thinks he can help. read more

The last thing you ever want to hear--especially after dedicating 14+ months to training for your first full Ironman race--is that you have a disc herniation and probably shouldn't keep running. For me, an age-group triathlete who just turned 40, it felt devastating. Competing in endurance sports was one of the things I always looked forward to, only to be sidelined by excruciating pain that affected everything in my life. I tried multiple physical therapists over three long months and was so desperate I even considered back surgery. Everything changed when I found Dr. Dylan. I'll admit I was skeptical at first--what could he possibly do differently? But his glowing reviews convinced me to take a chance, and I'm so glad I did. Unlike the one-size-fits-all routines I'd seen before, his approach was centered on progressive loading and truly getting to the root cause of my injury. His genuine attention to detail and methodical treatment plan helped me feel understood and supported. In just a few weeks, my pain began to subside, and within a few months, I went on to complete my very first marathon in a personal-best time! Even though I'm now fully healed, I still work with Dr. Dylan alongside my triathlon coach because he's become a key part of my training and performance as I look forward to racing throughout my 40s and remain injury free. If you're in pain or facing an injury but still passionate about staying active, I highly recommend visiting Dr. Dylan. More importantly if you are an endurance athlete focused on getting results, he is that rare physio to have in your corner. He gave me hope at a time when I thought my triathlon dreams were over, and I couldn't be more grateful for the impact he's had on my life. read more

Regain Performance - Physical Therapy Near Me - Walnut Creek, California

My name is Lori Hill, I own CrossFit San Ramon & MetFix Method. Of all things, I was running down some stairs at home and felt an uncomfortable POP, I was unable to walk on my left foot- the pain was too much just walking. After trying things like VooDoo Floss, Gua Sha and trying my best to stay off my leg, I felt some relief. When I went in to my Dr for my annual physical, she was worried about a blood clot because my left calf was 1 1/4" bigger than the right one. Ultra sound showed no clot, and other than the technician capturing the images and telling me there was a lot of fluid around the muscle - no one from John Muir could offer any advice or help. I was still on and off in discomfort months later, and Dr Dylan Kumar was willing to work with me. At first I felt like I had waited too long to repair anything, but he assured me we could fix things. He spent time talking with me, assessing what was going on, and he put together an amazing PT plan that had me back to 100% in a few months. I'm so amazed by how thorough he is, his attention to detail, and that he actually cares about his patients. We don't see this type follow up, check ins, & care from most. I love that I can send my clients, friends and family to him with Full confidence! So grateful for Regain Performance. So grateful, Dr. Dylan. It's wonderful being back to my athletic self, enjoying fitness and recreational sports without any worry about my calf! read more

Dr. Dylan has 100% improved my quality of life and I recommend him to everyone I know. I would even recommend him to my enemies because he's just too great to gatekeep. I first started working with Dr. Dylan in 2023 in Oakland and continued seeing him when he opened his practice in Walnut Creek. Dr. Dylan is so good at what he does that I would take public transit from West Oakland to Walnut Creek (roughly an hour commute with a bus to Bart to a 15min walk in 85 degree weather to his practice) because he's worth it! He has such a wealth of knowledge and there is no joint/muscle/body part that he can't rehab and strengthen-- and I would know because over the years, we've worked on my sciatica/back, knees, hamstrings, calves, ankles, and wrists (I'm pretty active and apparently quite accident-prone lol). I now live in Chicago and do virtual sessions with Dr. Dylan because I have yet to meet a physical therapist that not only resolves the issue, but also teaches me to understand my body and maintain strength long-term. He's also a nice person and has lots of patience and I say this as someone who was skeptical about physical therapy and is stubborn and dramatic. read more

had been suffering from shoulder pain/rotated cuff syndrome for almost 8 months. As an active individual going to the gym 5 days a week, this put a major damper on my life. I came across regain performance on Instagram and decided to give it try. 8 sessions into it I am at almost full mobility and pain free. Hello my name is Colin and I'm a software engineer, so, desk work most days. My neck and shoulder started killing me about a year into the pandemic. I eventually sought treatment from my pcp and got a referral to a physical therapy for my shoulder only. It got better somewhat after two years of work. But my pain got worse. Years later, after we had a baby, I was really in pain. I got the idea from my wife's parents to see an athletic massage therapist, who was pretty holistic, and helped manage the pain while also referring me to Dr Dylan at Regain! After only a few months I was feeling way, way better. Why? Because Dr Dylan was addressing the root issues in my body, not just my neck and shoulder, but the asymmetry and weakness on both sides, protecting an old knee injury, and helping to stretch and strengthen back to alignment. Though I'm not back to 100% yet, I haven't felt this good in maybe a decade. I have recommended Dr Dylan to basically anyone having chronic pain or tightness, and will continue to! read more

Dr. Dylan Kumar Changed My Life--Here's How Before Dr. Kumar, I was barely able to walk for 10 minutes after a series of injuries and misdiagnoses left me wheelchair-bound. My muscles had atrophied, I lived in constant fear of reinjury, and I'd lost hope in recovery. Two previous physical therapists had failed me--until I found Dr. Kumar. Why He's Different: -Root-Cause Focus: While others offered band-aid fixes, Dr. Kumar identified and treated the actual problems. -Elite Expertise: He's in the top 1% of Sports DPTs--capable of working with Olympians but chooses to help everyone. -Holistic Healing: He doesn't just rebuild strength; he restores confidence, corrects fueling habits, and prevents self-sabotage. My Transformation: -3 Months In: Regained cardio endurance. -6 Months In: Surpassed my original leg strength, speed, and endurance. -Beyond Rehab: When I shared my "impossible" goal of doing a pull-up (I couldn't even do a knee push-up!), he crafted a plan to address my neglected shoulder injury. Now? I can do full push-ups and am closing in on weighted pull-ups. From "You'll Never Run Again" to Clearance to Run: Thanks to his strategic conditioning (including elliptical training that mimics running), I went from 5-minute walks to completing a 32-mile ultra-elliptical challenge for my 32nd birthday. Mental & Emotional Shifts: -Exercise is 90% mental--and Dr. Kumar helped me: -Overcome fear of reinjury. -Pursue my goals (not just "recovery"). -Build unshakable confidence in my body. Food Freedom & Lifelong Health: As rehabbing runner, I know how rampant disordered eating is in sports. Dr. Kumar is rare--he's trained to spot and support eating disorder recovery while championing true nourishment. He's the only doctor I can share pancake brunch recs to and get cheered on for fueling properly. Final Verdict If you're tired of quick fixes, dismissed concerns, or cookie-cutter rehab--book with Dr. Kumar. You can count on a wondering experience in a welcoming environment, with brand new equipment and a doctor who doesn't just heal injuries; he transforms lives. I'm living proof--and I'm not gone yet. read more

Working with Dylan has made a huge difference in physical health and my overall well-being. Before working with Dylan, I had suffered from over 25 years of upper back pain that prevented me from having consistent sleep and left me feeling an endless nagging discomfort for over 80% of my waking hours. I had tried cortisol shots, acupuncture, acupressure, massage, pain medication, heat/cooling patches and nothing ever provided lasting relief. After working with Dylan (now for about 5 months), I feel physically and mentally better and have achieved my top 2 goals of sleep and pain relief. He has crafted and helped me refine targeted exercises to strengthen the affected areas of my body. He is constantly helping progress and refine my exercises to strengthen my muscles and restore my body. He is also super easy and encouraging to work with. As a result, I feel pain only 20% of the time and I sleep through the night (versus waking up and moving locations in the middle of the night). Thank you Dylan! Clearly, I highly recommend working with Dylan and your body is worth it! read more

Dr. Dylan is hands down the best PT ive worked with. I tend to be very active (snowboarding, soccer and running) and through all the years of body strain, knocks and falls i was needing some focused work to get my body back to 100% so that I could remain active at the level I desired to be. Dr. Dylan put together a training regimen that not only helped me build back strength but also flexibility through my core, back and hips. His care and instruction made it easy to continue the exercises at home which allowed me to progress through the training regimen. Exercises were substituted, with newer variations, when my body got used to the previous ones. I found it easy to communicate what my body was feeling and what wasnt working for me throughout my training. Dr. Dylan genuinely cared about my recovery and was flexible with his recommendations and training schedule to ensure that I achieved the goals I had set at the start of my PT with him. read more

Dr. Dylan does an awesome job making athlete-specific programming. Before coming here, I'd had a hard time finding a PT who provided exercises tailored to returning to play. Dylan has helped me address the initial injury I came in for, and is also always willing to work on other nagging issues that I would otherwise put off/ignore. I appreciate that my programming includes both exercises for my off-field training as well as an on-field warm-up for practice/game days. It's also great to be able to get manual work done at the start of sessions! read more

I have been working with Dylan for over a year and when he moved his practice from Oakland to Walnut Creek I continued working with him despite how much I dislike commuting. I first started seeing Dylan to fix imbalances in my body after 20 years of being a high level Ultimate Frisbee athlete. For example, I've dealt with intermittent throbbing mid-back pain for years and Dylan put together a series of programs that fixed the issue! He has also helped me come back from a serious calf injury and is now helping me to transition to other sports (ex. climbing and running). He is super knowledgeable and up on current research and always willing to discuss new and different approaches. He is attentive, actively listens, and is incredibly supportive of where I'd like to get to with my new pursuits. He puts together and continually adjusts the comprehensive highly tailored programs that address both the ad hoc issues and the long-term goals I have. I highly recommend Dylan for anyone who wants to improve their overall general health and well-being and to those who want to up level their athletic performance! read more

I highly recommend Regain Performance! Been seeing Dylan for over a year now. Stayed with him when he moved his practice from Oakland to Walnut Creek because I felt like he was actually able to figure out what was triggering my lower back and shoulder pain, which I've had from a car accident as a kid. I've tried other PTs, chiro, and acupuncture but they didn't really help or the effects were short term. Dylan worked with me to identity, build mobility, and gradually strengthen the muscles that were triggering my pain. I can't recommend Regain Performance enough - I haven't had pain in my shoulders in months and my lower back feels a lot stronger and the progress I've made feels more sustainable. read more

Dr. Dylan is seriously amazing! I've known him for almost two years now. I haven't been seeing him nonstop the whole time, but definitely most of it thanks to my injuries. If you're looking for someone who won't let you slack but will still get you back into top shape, he's your guy. My case wasn't small either--I completely snapped my Achilles tendon right when I needed it most. After surgery I couldn't walk for months, and recovery felt overwhelming. That's when I found Dr. Dylan. At the time I was really active--soccer three times a week and CrossFit almost daily--so losing that was devastating. Dr. Dylan built a plan just for me, not only helping my ankle and calf, but also keeping me strong overall with full-body movements. Honestly, I came out of recovery in even better shape than I expected. What makes him stand out is how well he listens and notices details. At one point I casually mentioned an old knee pain I'd had for years. Before I even explained, he spotted posture issues that could be the cause. He gave me some things to try--nothing overpromised, just "this might help"--and it actually fixed my knee pain! That was just a bonus while he was already helping me with my Achilles. Same thing happened with other little issues like shoulder pain and arthritis. I also really appreciate that he's honest and realistic. He doesn't sugarcoat things or give false hope--he makes it clear that progress depends on your own effort. He motivates you, but also makes sure you do your "homework." His recovery plans are tough, but they really work. If you're dealing with an injury or just want to reach a higher level of fitness, I can't recommend Dr. Dylan enough. read more

I'm 57 and enjoy playing soccer, running 10Ks and half marathons, hiking, and biking. About a year ago, I was sidelined for 8 months. My bunions were so painful I couldn't put on shoes, run, or even kick a ball. The pain kept ping-ponging between both feet, and I was miserable not being able to do the activities I love. Even before that, I had ongoing ankle, calf, hamstring, and lower back issues. Before coming to Dylan, I tried stretching, generic strength programs, and other treatments. Nothing addressed the root problem. Dylan was different. He didn't just treat symptoms -- he rebuilt my mechanics and strength in a way that was tailored to my body and the demands of my sport. Every session is intentional and performance-focused. Today I'm sprinting, playing soccer weekly, running over 7 miles at a time, and genuinely working toward being in the best shape of my life. If you're serious about long-term durability and getting back to doing what you love, I highly recommend Dylan. read more

As a competitive rugby player, I've been riddled with various injuries and have spent a lot of time doing rehab and in physical therapy -- I've never had a PT or programming as impactful as Dr. Dylan. My concerns were evaluated and programming was created for me based on my injuries, nothing cookie cutter, just a solid rehab program that addressed MY needs. If you're looking for truly intentional and personalized care delivered by a really great guy, visit Dr. Dylan at Regain! read more

If you're looking for a physical therapist who truly listens, takes your needs seriously, and knows what they're doing--please go see Dylan. I've been dealing with chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain for several years, and after moving to California, I struggled to find the right fit. I saw several physical therapists before Dylan, and while many were competent, most felt like PT "factories"--impersonal, rushed, and one-size-fits-all. Dylan is the complete opposite. I first started seeing him in Oakland in early 2024, and now I make the longer drive to Walnut Creek because he's that good. His care is thoughtful, individualized, and grounded in real expertise. He explains everything clearly--what we're doing, why we're doing it, and how it's meant to help. He's patient, supportive, and never pushy, but he does hold me accountable and adjusts the difficulty just enough to help me build strength over time. What stands out most is how sustainable the progress has been. I have a demanding job, two young kids, and long commutes--and before working with Dylan, my body was constantly in a state of pain and recovery. Since starting treatment with him, I've seen a real shift. After several consecutive long commutes recently, I noticed that my body didn't crash like it used to. On days when pain does flare up, I use the exercises from our plan--and by the next morning, I feel significantly better. Dylan is the rare kind of PT who combines deep knowledge with real care. You may be able to find someone in-network, but in my experience, you get what you pay for--and Dylan is absolutely worth it. read more

I worked with Dr. Dylan Kumar for a shoulder injury, and I couldn't be more impressed with the care and results. From the very first session, Dr. Kumar was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in my recovery. He created a personalized treatment plan that not only addressed the pain but helped me rebuild strength and mobility safely and effectively. Thanks to his guidance, I'm now getting back to strength training and running--something I wasn't sure would be possible anytime soon. He explained everything clearly, adjusted exercises as needed, and always made sure I felt supported through the process. I highly recommend Dr. Kumar to anyone needing physical therapy. You'll be in excellent hands. read more

I first came to see Dylan while battling two different injuries - a groin strain and a torn shoulder labrum (SLAP tear). My main activities are CrossFit and basketball, and I'm currently 33 years old. From the groin strain, I was severely limited in squatting (CrossFit/lifting) and lateral movements (basketball), but tried to keep scaling things to stay active. By the time I saw Dylan I couldn't go below a loaded quarter squat without fairly significant pain and avoided any full effort basketball or other sports. After a couple months I was back to full depth squatting, and started an unrestricted squatting program 4 months after my first visit. I continued PT with Dylan throughout, and he helped me adapt the menu of movements as I regained function and required progressively less attention to the groin. Another 2.5 months later I hit a lifetime PR on squats, and he continues to help me maintain. The torn labrum I could push through, but caused me some lasting achey pain when I did. I'd made some progress on the shoulder working remotely with another PT prior to seeing Dylan. That PT was the person who had originally referred me to Dylan, and the two of them communicated well to transfer care for in-person support. This injury has been a long road, but between rehab movements and some deep tissue work, both from Dylan, I've gotten back to doing everything I want to do with minimal pain or fear of secondary injury (which is a risk with labral tears). I had one good PT before Dylan, but had been working with her remotely and was limited in care for that reason, which led to the referral to Dylan. Prior to that I had not had many good experiences with PTs referred by my insurance, who were not super focused on getting me to the more demanding activity levels that I enjoy. He's been very good at helping me understand my injuries (for example, realizing my groin strain was related to an improperly rehabbed hamstring tear in my past) and treatment plan. We met more often early on, but now meet about once a month, and I feel the educational aspect of his care has both helped me outside of our sessions (to assess myself and adjust) and to make the most of our time in sessions (where I'm now better able to communicate what I'm feeling and understand cues). He checks in regularly and knows what I'm up to that will put new demands on my injuries (basketball tournament, new lifting program). I work primarily a desk job as an engineer, and travel often for work - he's aware of my life holistically and takes that into account with my programming as well. I'd highly recommend Dylan to anyone that wants to rehab towards high-demand activities and invest in their body's future longevity. read more

My friend recommended Dr. Dylan for help with glute pain related to playing volleyball and pickleball that had been present for over a year and it was starting to impact movement outside of sports. I had tried Kaiser PTs without any improvement. Dr. Dylan did a phone consultation to discuss my concerns and then I met with him to set up our 10-week plan. He evaluated my current abilities and then built a personalized plan starting from the basics so we could progress as my mind-muscle connection grew along with my strength. My plan included stretching/warm up, strength movements and dynamic warm ups before sports. It was great meeting every week to go over progress and address any questions about movements. He was also very responsive via text if I had questions outside of our sessions. Luckily I didn't have to stop playing sports during this rehab plan! I've completed my 10 weeks with so much improvement and my pain is basically non existent. One of the best investments I've made for myself! read more
