    Natomas

A Great Training Site in Natomas…read more SITREP I have to say it: FREE PARKING! Yes. That's right. FREE PARKING! This is one of the few state offices within the framework of the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) that falls outside the equivalent of what would be Sacramento's version of the Washington, D.C. "Beltway". And it's nice for a change of pace. SETUP When training new staff that come from all 24 different regional offices spread throughout the State of California (Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Bruno, San Jose, San Francisco, Rohnert Park, Chico, Fresno, etc. etc.), it's nice that expenses can be kept down and our trainees don't have to worry about the hassle of downtown parking. Now, that is NOT to say that location is what totally drives a definition of the "quality" of a training-site, but it is just one thing that is representative of the pluses that exist in having our training site located outside of the HQ. GREAT ENVIRONMENTAL VIBE Richard Burton (our esteemed Departmental Personnel Attorney, NOT the twice-betrothed husband of Elizabeth Taylor) stated matter-of-factly that he really liked our training complex located here off of Natomas Park Drive. It's got lots of trees, very burby, walking distance to some nice restaurants and cafes, so it must have something going for it. A lot of different offices are free to utilize the training room resource for meetings when there is no high-priority training taking place. AMENITIES Fountain, restrooms, break room, smoking areas, etc., are all nearby when trainees engage in breaks or just leg-stretches to get the kinks out of their behinds. TECH What I really like about the main training-room set-up is that each individual station - there are roughly 24 full seated learner-stations altogether, and a couple of partial stations) has it's own Lan-Connection and power strip so that you can plug in and be connected to the rest of the world, but MAINLY to our Departmental website curriculum. The overhead In-Focus Machine with the connection-station up near the screen is a definite hassle-free set-up for when we engage the Power Point modules, or the eLearning modules, or when I throw in a few Elvis Presley videos to *shake things* up. THE LOWDOWN All in all, I have to give this training-room two thumbs up for providing a great learning environment for office staff.
