Now the Bike Shed has moved to Cathedral Road it has more space than at its old premises on Wyndham Crescent, and they've added new makes to their range including Trek, Pashley, Raleigh and Cooper. Apart from the bikes themselves, they also have loads of cycling accessories, from child seats for the back of your bike through to gloves, helmets and clothing. From fairly low-price goods through to high-end brands, they offer stock for most budgets. You can also get your bike repaired and serviced by experienced staff and they supply parts by dozens of cycling brands such as Rock Shox, Endura, Truvativ, Shimano, Mavic, Avid, etc. The staff are all cycling experts, and are knowledgeable on local issues such as good biking trails and Cardiff's Bike To Work scheme - so you can find out all sorts by having a chat with them. Highly recommended for any Cardiff cyclists out there.

This is where local business beats the big national chains…read more National chains usually employ someone who looks decent enough, doesn't have a criminal record and can just about string a sentence together without swearing. They don't care if they have any knowledge or passion about the product they are selling. The people working at the Bike Shed know their stuff and you can tell - their enthusiasm is infectious. They don't won't to sell you a bike to make money, they want to find you the right bike so you enjoy biking. That's why I bought a bike off them that I ride all the time. If you're after a bike or just some advice - pop in here -there is no hard sell just friendly advice.

We wander through the aisles, knowing what we are looking for (a lock and a chain for his bike) but unsure where to find them in amongst all of the other equipment. The confusion must show on our faces but all of the sales people are busy so we eventually manage to navigate ourselves in the right direction. Looking at the large range of locks on offer we frown a little at how expensive they are but decide to go for it anyway. Then, he realises he's forgotten his wallet and we have to leave anyway. A few days later, his bike was stolen. The moral of the story is a) always buy a lock for your bike and b) make sure you go back to this shop, where they sell everything you could possibly want for your bike. And if it's not in stock? But the problem was that I know squat about bicycles, so when a problem like a brake pad not very well aligned appeared I didn't knew what to do. This is where Tredz come along, I have already visited their shop previously and it is like a heaven for a cyclist, they sell top notch quality bikes, I found myself in the past wandering through their shop just looking at the (understandably expensive) bikes and accessories. The only reason why I didn't bought any bikes from them was really the price, I can't afford to get one at that price right now, so I got one in second hand. So when that problem arised I decided to call Tredz for some advice, a bit afraid that they might charge me if I had to book a servicing with them. On the other hand a very nice guy (Richard) picked up the phone and told me to come by that he would show me how to do it and what to tighten. I did that, went along and in fact I got there, he showed me, complimented on my bike, was very nice and didn't ask for anything in return. Now, recapitulating I did not spend any money on the shop, didn't get my bike from there and was using a service that usually is paid for. That IS service! Next time I'll have to buy a bike I will go there! Their passion for bicycles reflects on their staff, one of their members does a daily commute of 80 (!!) miles in his bike, all the way from Swansea to Cardiff. Go there you really won't regret it, just don't scare yourself with the prices. The bikes are worth it!

I had to wait a while to be served; they get very busy in lunchtimes. For Bath, its quite a big shop. They've joined together two shops into one and a few doors down they also have a service centre.

I'm certainly not new to bikes and needed a quick fix (i was visiting a friend and had no tools on me). He takes a quick look at it and tells me I should most certainly dump it and get a new one. Something I happen to know as utter rubbish. I won't go on a rant about that situation. Long story short, a less knowledgeable costumer would've done what he suggested, and spent a fortune on a new bike. That is not costumer service and, quite frankly, a fairly dishonest thing to do. Like I said, bar that guy, the shop is great.

Combining a retail shop with a repair and technical assistance. They can easily outcompete other cycle shops with a cool style and interior the latest in cycling gear and some really nice bikes. If you're looking for pro equipment such a cross country or downhill bike then get some knowledge from the experts. The staff are all cycle fanatics so they should know what they are talking about.

As a keen cyclist I was a Cyclopedia regular when I lived this side of town. The shop is well stocked and parts can also be custom made. The chaps that work here are extremely knowledgable and friendly. These people are good, very good, they have been established for 16 years. As well as selling new parts, they also offer the only bike fitting service in South Wales, fix all makes and models of bikes, without the need to book and even fix punctures while you wait.

Having such a large stock means you can pick up what you need and take it away the same day, and being so close to the Plumb centre means they get passing tradesmen mulling around looking for their next power tool to play with. For those hard to find tools and unusual requirements like generator, this place has it with the sales force to convince you that you need it, obviously the more power tools equal the more masculine you are so better stock up. Imagine going into a large warehouse like B&Q or Halford and you've got the picture of Machine Mart.

I just think this is a brilliant idea for all the commuters out there who then need to travel on to…read moretheir office, or indeed to people in the city who may just fancy a leisurely ride down to the bay or around Bute Park. Basically, its a bike hire system that works best if you pre-register online so you don't have to faff around so much with the machine too much. Then you can pick up a bike from the train station, or the bay, or parts of town and away you go. Granted its not the easiest of systems to operate, and they aren't the most stylish of bikes although they do have a good size basket to put your handbag in and they don't have any chains to get you covered in oil either. All in all then a great idea and a welcome addition to the Cardiff streets!
