OMG! Thanks to Yelp, I feel like an explorer in my old, own neighborhood! I made quite a "discovery" today, although it did make me feel like I was in the Twilight Zone at first!
The weather was pretty nice today, so I decided to walk to my favorite Aldi. On the way, I decided to stop by the "dollar store" that is on the nw corner of 55th and Kedzie to see if they still sell instant lottery tickets. As I walked, I started thinking of Charles Pharmacy - - it occupied this location before the "dollar store" - - many, many years ago. As I approached the doorway, I noticed a sign above the door that read : REEM PHARMACY. This struck me as strange since I was just thinking of Charles Pharmacy. Then I stepped into the Twilight Zone - - oh, make that new (to me) pharmacy at this location.
I was in a bit of shock. It was no longer the somewhat congested dollar store with rows of shelves chock-full of all sorts of dollar store items that dollar stores sell with things for $1 and more. It has a fresh look and it actually has a pharmacy! In a state of amazement, I found out from the pharmacist that this section of the store was indeed a pharmacy and a "dollar store" could be found in the other section of the store.
The dollar store part was neater and cleaner than it used to be also. It had a variety of items, but not nearly as much as it used to have. That was disappointing.
I then talked to the dollar store cashier, Jessica. She was very nice. She said that the store changed two years ago. I didn't realize that I hadn't been in here in such a long time.
I also found out that they no longer sell instant lottery tickets.
