The woman I spoke with was friendly and knowledgeable about the different products, and she recommended a tincture to reduce cramps. I was pleasantly surprised by how much of a difference it made! They have 2 walls that are 5 shelves high with glass jars full of all the dried plants listing descriptions for each one so you can decide what you need. I've been with this shop since 2008. This shop helped me get rid of horrible, itchy acne I had for 2 years that not even the dermatologists at OHSU could remedy (sure, I had to drink a special tea 3x a day, take herbal capsules 2x a day and steam a few times a week - cleared up in 2 months!). Whether you're a novice or make your own plant medicine, this is the place to go. I will note that sometimes there can be very inexperienced herbalists working on their own who won't be able to answer questions or help you find a solution. I was very disappointed and frustrated by my visit to Natural Grocers. The store is small,…read morecramped, and, with one exception, full of indifferent and unhelpful employees. I stopped in to see if I could find coarsely-ground cornmeal, which is all but impossible to find pretty much everywhere. Although there were many employees on the floor, most were found in pairs, each engaged in a personal gossip session with all sorts of inappropriate details being shared and discussed. Eye contact and asking for help quite literally went ignored (in case you're wondering, each was wearing a "Natural Grocers" apron, so I know for sure they were employees). I also encountered two completely blocked aisles, with the blockages being caused by employees who were actually working. In each case, employees were stocking shelves from a cart they'd placed right in the middle of the aisle thereby preventing anybody with a cart from being able to move through the aisle. Natural Grocers does have a good selection of vegan items and surprisingly low prices on them (lower than any place else I've ever checked), and the cashier was very helpful, friendly, and cheerful. These are the only reasons for one star higher than the minimum. I'm sure that Natural Grocers can do better, but I'm not sure that I'd like to return to find out if they eventually do.

I explained what was happening, sore throat, congestion, headache, cough, etc... and they recommended the mint tea with CBD infusion to help with my symptoms. I ordered it and sat and drank it there while I chatted with the owners. They are also brothers so that was super cool. They said they were the only game in town and how did I hear about them since I was traveling and I said Facebook. They were kind, gracious and knowledgeable about herbs and I totally dug that. They also ship all over the country and to Canada which is cool. I shared that I also love the hibiscus plant and they recommended the tea they had so I got some to go. It's a super cute spot and I love supporting local businesses always. Wishing them all the best and I will visit them next time I'm in Portland for sure.
