I feel safe taking my family to enjoy a positive environment without fear of being robbed and or harmed in Humboldt County. 2. This is not one of those middle of city gyms with sketchy a$$ people loitering outside. Really don't have to worry about my windows getting smashed out or my catalytic converters getting chopped out of my vehicle by some lame. 3. Bear River PD is close by... Thank you Bear River for offering a peace of mind while I work out. ‍ I believe this is great change of pace in Humboldt County.

September 11, 2025 - Fortuna, CA…read more From the trail access point at River Lodge, we first headed north. While there were a few pretty river plants, the trail itself wasn't very appealing. The river is mostly hidden behind trees, and the path runs right past a scrap yard--complete with old machinery and piles of metal. To top it off, there was dog waste everywhere. Does no one clean up after their pets here? On the way back, we decided to try heading south from the Lodge instead. That section was much nicer--better views of the river and some pretty mountain scenery. Unfortunately, there was still plenty of dog waste (and even horse waste), but at least the surroundings were more enjoyable. An okay trail, but I wouldn't go out of my way to check it out.

The River Walk Trail is a pathway that goes along the Eel River…read more Pros: You have nice views of the Eel River along the path and cows grazing. There is a covered picnic table and a couple was there enjoying a nice lunch overlooking the water so it has a nice view. Note that this is the only bench area that I saw along the trail. There is plenty of parking. This trail is near restaurants and hotels in the area, making it convenient to get to. The trail is dog friendly. Cons: There is dog poop along the trail like others have mentioned. The river is mostly hidden behind the brush and trees. The pathway is somewhat narrow IMHO. Not a lot of places to sit and enjoy the view along the pathway.
