Kim is an absolute gem and beyond sweet and kind. Her horses are beautifully trained and extremely skilled. My wife and I drove 5 1/2 hours for her birthday weekend away and I wanted to surprise my wife with some horse back riding. Kim offered us a guided trip through the glorious redwoods for two hours just us two and her. I did the beginner's trail ride for my boyfriend's birthday yesterday. The women who accompanied us on the ride were very beginner friendly and kind, they communicated clear about how to act around/on the horses and were encouraging. The horses were patient and the women gave us a tutorial and small test run on how to maneuver the horses before our ride. It is clear that they are passionate about what they do and that they love and take care of their horses. We took a 1.5hour ride along the river and alongside some small farms in Fortuna. I loved being able to ride a horse for the first time and have a beautiful experience out in nature at the same time. I would definitely recommend booking a ride with Korobi Stables if you are a beginner or experienced alike. The person I spoke to on the phone leading up to the ride was very kind and helpful, the booking system they use online is great too. read more

While visiting the area, my kids (4 and 7) decided they wanted to try horseback riding. I found Korobi Stables's helpful website and easily booked a 1 hour lesson. We arrived early and the staff allowed the kids to help with grooming and gave them a few treats to offer the horses, which was a great way for them to become comfortable at the ranch. Kim did their lesson and was wonderful meeting them at their comfort level. They had a great time. Next time we are in the area, we hope to go back for a trail ride! read more

Kim, the owner, really made a big difference on the experience I had with horseback riding. I was really really nervous at first when we were first brought to meet the horses but after Kim described a few characteristics of each horse, she picked one that was most suit us based on her judgement on us (if we looked nervous, excited, etc) and it was right on spot! Kim was very welcoming, calm, and will stay next to you the entire way if you need her to. Kim was amazing with her horses and she has great workers too (Thanks Tommy!). If you are nervous about horses but still want to try it out. I definitely 150% recommend her especially if it'll be your first time with horses. read more

One of my best experiences on my vacation here in Humboldt! You don't find a lot of opportunities to ride horses around the SF Bay Area where I am from. It was my first time riding a horse, ever. Kim (the owner) coached me on riding during a 1-hr trail ride to a nearby river. I learned how to steer, trot, and stop. At one point I accidentally got the horse to go into a run but I used the training to slow it down immediately. But what fun that was!!! Kim said that she can teach me more on future lessons how to gallop and do more sophisticated things on the horse. Kim's horses have gotten the best training. The horses obey the rider and do not have noticeable "bad" habits. For instance, some horses might give in to the urge to run down a slope but Kim's horses maintain whatever speed you "set" them to regardless of slope. Pretty amazing training. If it's your first time riding a horse, I definitely recommend this stable. Don't ruin your impression of horses with a badly trained horse! I felt super safe on horseback here and I will definitely return in the future. read more

Please do yourself a favor and BOOK A RIDE WITH KIM (owner). She is so sweet and awesome, and we couldn't have had a better experience. Kim is very thorough and clear when explaining how to guide your horse, and will demonstrate for you. It was my first horseback riding experience and Kim could tell I was nervous to start but she was very encouraging and doesn't rush you at all. She's great at giving you verbal instructions while you're riding, and the horses are so incredibly well trained that you don't even feel scared. Kim really made it easy. I rode King and my boyfriend rode Chex, both were such gentle and nice horses. And did I mention extremely well-trained???? My goodness it's amazing. Like Kim said, 50% of it is confidence and the other 50% is how good the horse is, and how good the horse is definitely feeds into your confidence. During the ride we talked about the horses, her life, our life -- it was good small talk. The day we went we also had beautiful weather so everything was just great. I can see why people fall in love with horseback riding, and after such a great experience with Kim I definitely want to go again. Unfortunately, Korobi Stables is a bit out of the way (a 5-hour drive from home...) but if I were in the area again, I'd go back. Anyone passing by or in Fortuna should give it a go and book some time with Kim! read more

What a great way to welcome the new year, 2012! One of my resolutions was to get on a horse and go horseback riding. What a great experience. I travel to Fortuna quite a bit for business and a friend arranged a horseback riding experience with Korobi Stables. The owner, Kim, was just great from beginning to end. She was helpful, encouraging, positive and a great teacher. We helped saddle the horses and she gave each us a thorough background on our horses and what to expect. Once on the horses her guidance was thourough and helpful. On our ride, we rode down trails, streets and on the Eel River. She was attentive during the ride always giving feedback, both to help and encourage. Along the way, Trista was always at the rear keeping an eye on us. Heights (I know the top of a horse may not be high to you!) and large animals make me tense. But this experience was exactly wanted I needed to make me want to come back for more.
