Was up in Davis and always game to check out a local garden center. Redwood Barn Nursery has a healthy selection of flowering plants, vegetables, cactus and indoor plants. Everything looked so colorful and well kept. It's a smaller space but that means everything is well curated and taken care of. The barn itself is a cute photo op. There are some unique pottery and garden ornaments as well. While I didn't purchase anything. I was eyeing some beautiful lavender plants. Fun to browse and if I were a local, I'd come here first for any garden needs.

Stopped by this cute little nursery for our quick weekend business trip. I'm always looking for new and different plants and plant shopping always makes me happy. I was happy to find some plants that weren't normally found within my area i.e. I bought some Thai chili plants for myself and my sisters as a souvenir. They also had a decent selection of indoor house plants and bought a few pilea plants for myself. They also have a decent selection of different succulents and cacti. It's a really small nursery but they have a pretty decent variety.

Great selection with a friendly environment that's welcoming. Love the overall local feel and I will be back!

Great outdoor plant selection! - great cactus, succulents and other outdoor plants Great carnivorous plant selection - some aren't in the most ideal growing conditions, nepenthes need a lot more humidity that outdoor Californian weather can offer! The houseplant collection varies, monsteras, pothos and stuff are generally in good condition but the calathea upstairs seem to go bad quickly or must come in in not so great condition here Staff are really friendly! Prices are average - on the higher end - typical of a davis business! They occasionally get unusual bits from the conservatory in Davis which makes it very worth stopping in occasionally.

I always have the best experience here. The location is so cute and the employees really know their stuff. They have a decently sized selection of both indoor and outdoor plants with an emphasis on natives! Inside, they have two stories of indoor plants. All are in excellent condition and beautiful shape. It makes for a very peaceful outing. That last time I went, they actually didn't have the plant I was looking for so they gave me the address of another nursery before I even asked! Such good customer service. Very warm, friendly, and welcoming. They help plant owners of all experiences. Such a local gem. They even have the cutest little outdoor decor. I recommend this place to all my friends.

Recently re-landscaped our backyard with an emphasis on drought tolerant and California native plants. We've frequented RWB (as my son calls it) on a near weekly basis at times and the service and advice is unparalleled. The staff are helpful and can provide the necessities of plant care. The owner, Don Shor, is a font of knowledge. Not only will he give you information on any given plant but can go many levels higher if you're interested in plant taxonomy, genetics, cultivars, and history. Redwood Barn exemplifies the reason to support small business, you get so much more than just the product you're purchasing.

Really great nursery! Very reasonably priced plants and a very cute barn. They carry a wide variety of plants, including a very big succulent collection and sometimes carry harder to find plants such as calatheas. The plants look very healthy and well taken care of and it is evident that the employees here do a great job caring for the different needs of each plant. I bought a monsters deliciosa (bit bigger than a seedling) and it has a ton of new growth and will need to be reported soon. The plants are great but one of the best parts of redwood barn nursery is the staff. They are extremely friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about any plants you may have questions about. Definitely recommend a visit!

He was able to deliver the next day! He required a 25% deposit and then the rest is paid upon delivery of the goods. Payment options include cash, Zelle, personal check, wire, and credit card. There is a small 3.5% fee for credit card payments. His preference seems to be Zelle. He did ask if I wanted to purchase emitters ($8 each) and fertilizer. I declined. He warned me I'd be in the very small minority of people that didn't have irrigation fully set up first. He sends a Dropbox care sheet with watering and fertilizer instructions. The instructions even have photos to help you learn what a dehydrated bamboo looks like and a section on how much to water if you don't use his emitter. I asked how I'd manually water until I could get irrigation set up. He told me 20 minutes at a slow drip. So it's untrue he won't tell you how to care for it if you decline the upsell. He reminded me I'm welcome to call with any questions. Highly recommend Dr. Dan!

They do serve lunch to 2pm. We were here to have lunch and then take pictures at their lavender farm. Hopping to catch some blooming lavender. Sadly, it was mostly a green garden w not much blooming lavender. There were a few other flowers blooming tho. Upon arrival.... Pros 1) plenty of parking. 2) location was plain but pretty and clean. 3) they had like 4 to 8 tables on the front by the parking area where you walk in. I saw a few people eating there. 4) they had a beautiful wooden table in the back on the grassy area with 6 chairs around it. That's where we sat for lunch. Our reservation was at 12pm. We got seated right away. Today was perfect to eat outside. There is no indoor seating or a restaurant here. I didn't see any. 5) there is a gift shop. But we didn't make it to see the inside 6) they serve salads and sandwiches here for lunch. Very simple and short menu. Their soup of the day today was tomato bisque. 7) our sandwiches and salads tasted fine. But salads are large portions. I could have shared my chicken salad with another. Sandwiches are normal size. Enough for one person. 8) Drinks were ok. Water tasted good. No funky or metal taste to it. 9) two porter potty bathroom but clean. Not the typical blue porter potties at putdoor events. A little nicer and it flushes. 10) our server was very nice. Cons 1) it took a long time to get our meals once we ordered. We were seated at 12pm. But we didn't get our salads and sandwiches till like an hourish later. By the time our foods came out, we sat to catch up and eat, and celebrate a bday, it was like 1:45ish already. Gift shop closes at 2pm. 2) our young server seems like she's still in training. But she was good. Wish they check on their customers more often. But maybe she was the only one taking orders. I don't know. 3) Conclusion This location was nice. Clean. Pretty. There wasn't any lavender blooming when we were there. But I heard it's a hit and miss to catch it in bloom too get beautiful pictures. It's ok though. We found other areas to get nice photos in. Foods were ok. Meh. But salads looked pretty and in large portions. Chicken on the salads were perfectly made. It was juicy and not dry. Each of our plates were $18. There is a small drinks menu. With both their menus being short, it made it so much easier to order something. Love that no one rushed us out after 2pm. We were allow to take our time on the area to take photos. They were setting up for a 4pm wedding. Not to bad here.

They sometimes have varieties that aren't in the big box stores. Today was no exception. I selected some rare succulents and proceeded to the outdoor checkstand to pay. That is where things went downhill. This usually open checkstand had a note stating it was closed and to pay inside. So back inside I went. After a short wait I approached the check stand and after the young man rang my purchases he handed me the receipt. I said well I need to pay you. And as I unzipped my RFID-shielded wallet to obtain my debit card the young male cashier said, "oh it already took your payment" (and he pointed to the "tap here" feature on the credit/debit card machine on the counter). I was flabbergasted! So after looking at the receipt I saw that the machine had charged a credit card that was located several cards deep inside my wallet in my crossbody bag that I was wearing at the time. I asked him to refund that and place the items on a debit card instead. Wow. After a brief discussion, both he and his "Lead" admitted that machine is super sensitive so my recommendations are to the consumer be careful when shopping here, and to ACE replace the machine or post a warning to customers. Lastly, the attitude of the Lead was a bit condescending - loud, and restating the obvious. And the cashier was aloof - detached and not listening.

BEWARE - Poor Quality Compost and Poor Customer Service…read more On Saturday, July 26, my husband purchased half a yard of "humus blend" compost from the Davis Ace rock yard. When he got home, I immediately noticed several large rocks, glass shards, and bits of plastic mixed in. I called the store right away and was told there had been previous complaints, but they thought this was a new delivery. The store manager apologized and said we could return the compost for a full refund. When we returned it, the yard staff were kind and helpful in removing it from our truck. However, when I went inside to process the refund, the rock yard manager was curt -- both to us and to the associate handling the return. When I explained why we were returning the product, his only response was that it was our responsibility to inspect the compost before purchase. This was shocking and completely inappropriate. A customer buying a "humus blend" should not have to sift through it on-site to make sure it doesn't contain glass and debris. I followed up with an email and a letter to the store owner, Mark Schulein, but received no response. Needless to say, we will be purchasing our landscape products elsewhere. I was willing to write this off as a one-time mistake, but the manager's dismissive attitude and lack of accountability have made me lose trust in the quality and integrity of Davis Ace Hardware.
