My partner was craving steak, so we came here for dinner. I find hotel restaurants can be touch and go, but this one was a great one. It's right in the heart of the city and great for people watching if you sit outside on their beautiful patio. Where to begin...I had read the menu before we arrived (my birthday) and as I come from South Shore Nova Scotia, I looked forward to the Halibut. It is one of my favourite white fish. It was over cooked, dry, and chewy. Halibut is not supposed to be chewy. The seafood in general was overcooked. Shrimp and scallops. The mussels appetizer came without melted butter for dipping. Altogether an overpriced, not tasty, and disappointing meal. Our server was wonderful however, and that goes a long way with us. She was the best thing about the restaurant. She sent me home with a complimentary sticky toffee pudding which was the one tasty thing. As for ambiance, it was alright, although the choice of music could be better. We ate here while visiting family on the island. We wanted a nice restaurant for a double date night, and Redwater turned out to be an excellent choice. The atmosphere is elegant but still comfortable and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The beet salad with goat cheese and salmon was quite good, although it was missing the promised pecans, and the risotto was the best item at the table. My husband's steak was cooked a bit over what he ordered but still very good. The toffee pudding and chocolate cheesecake for dessert were also delicious. Expect to pay a bit for dinner, but it's the perfect place for a special occasion. All in all, we are glad we settled on here for a nice meal. read more

The Redwater Grille is a chain restaurant from Western Canada. A strange choice for the house restaurant for Charlottetown's newest and most upscale hotel, The Holman Grand. My husband and I swung by for a quick drink on New Year 's Day and were more amused than impressed. The décor is quite comfortable, more casual than stuffy. There were quite a few tables of diners. We choose to sit at the bar which is quite small for a hotel bar. In fact, the bar is so small you can see pretty much everything the bartenders are doing from the u-shaped counter. Sometimes that's fun and sometimes it's just strange. After a quick look at the menu, I ordered the Pink Panther cocktail. There are few things I love more than a milk-based, girly cocktail. It sounded delicious made of melon liquer, white crème de cacao, amaretto, orange and pineapple juice and grenadine and cream. We watched as the bartender took 5 minutes to search for the recipe clearly never having made the drink before. Once he located the recipe, I looked on in amazement as he put all the ingredients in a glass and then reached for a can of Reddi-whip. Yep, cream at this place consists of petroleum-based product. He then handed me the glass without even mixing it. It was more like a milkshake than a cocktail. After a bit he asked me if I wanted a straw. Bizarre. The strange presentation combined with the very audible conversation among staff members about who had the app to see football scores on their phones made the Redwater Grille more of a joke than a serious dining destination. We enjoyed a good laugh at the overly inappropriate level of informality. The drink was delicious even if visually unappealing. It did seem to be a very pleasant spot and not too pricey so it's definitely an option when eating out in Ch'town. read more

This restaurant has bad service and a weird menu. First the service. The hostess asked if we had reservations, looked down at her computer disapprovingly and after some time muttered "I'll have to clear a table." After some time she came back and seated us in a booth on a high platform, which was obviously difficult for someone on crutches - me. There was no need. The restaurant had less than 25% of the tables occupied for the next 2 hours. The waiter smiled while he spoke at a rapid sotto voice. We guessed at most of what he said. The food gave me indigestion that lasted all night with shall I say sudden evacuation of my digestive tract. Need to remember this place. Moderate high priced and disappointed. read more

Day 21/30: 30-day yelp challenge Came here for lunch when Charlottetown's grilled cheese festival managed to run out of grilled cheeses less than halfway through the event... ugh. Hubby's friend said this was a decent place so we thought we'd give it a try instead. Contemporary decor in one of the newer hotels in town. Totally dead on a Sunday at lunch - not a good sign. There were more staff sitting around the bar and chatting than guests in the restaurant. The menu is decent and service is OK, but there were way too many issues to recommend coming back here. My husband and mother-in-law were both happy with their sandwiches. My flatbread order was quite tasty, but my mussels order was messed up on a couple of levels. First, they included chorizo with the mussels when I specifically told them not to, then I found a piece of plastic in the dish which looks like it was part of the bag the mussels came in. The server actually questioned me to see if it was really plastic or perhaps a piece of seaweed... seriously? I'm pretty sure I can tell the difference! Service is a bit slow and the food took ridiculously long to come out considering that there were only 2 tables of people. Has potential, but I wouldn't come back after this experience. read more

Good dinner before going to the Anne of Green Gables musical across the street. Our kids had soup and sides and enjoyed it. The scallops on my surf and turf were grilled to perfection. When we told them we had a hard stop, they were able to get us out in plenty of time. read more

I came here for dinner with friends and had a fantastic experience. The wine service was lovely and unique, the appetizers (beet salad, corn and tomato soup, crab dip) were all hits, and the mains were perfect for each of us. Our server, Angus, was fun and funny, knowledgeable and polite. We each raved about the food and service throughout the evening. We arrived without a reservation and were seated at a nice big table. Our special requests for slight changes to the menu were honoured without hesitation or annoyance. I was really pleased to hear our server check that we didn't have any allergies before he left with our order. Fantastic experience all around. read more

After my coworker and I drove around in the rain searching for a restaurant we finally found the Redwater Rustic grill. We were seated at the bar but soon noticed the staff here do not smile very often and are not very warm or friendly. That being said the food was very good and if you like dessert you must have the Chocolate Pâté. Phenomenal!! read more

We had a party of 8 people--the food came out in groups of 2 so by the time the last 2 of us received our breakfast the first 2 had finished....over priced food--really bad so called has browns--which were really whole potatoes...ordered chocolate milk for 3 and they were all sour...would not recommend for breakfast but did have great atmosphere--maybe for a romantic supper.. read more

Our party of 6 are there last eve. The waitress was lovely.....but the kitchen needs to pull up their aprons! The service to the table was,pathetic!! Slow preparation. An hour after we arrived.Another concern that does not make sense is that French fried potatoes are provided some nights,......but not all? Hamburgers are on the menu! Not a fun unique fresh experience like it was a year or 2 back. The staff are usually friendly. That gal we had last eve was great. But a few older women who work there need to loosen up and smile....it goes a,long way.! We personally will not have her again. read more

As much as we like visiting PEI for its small town hospitality...sometimes we miss the upscale Bars & Restaurants back home in Toronto. This trip we discovered the Red Water Rustic Grille in Charlottetown and got our Big City fix and had a great time. The food is great but we really like the atmosphere of the Red Water ....not to small/not to big, comfortable lighting and upscale vibe. Great place to relax in the evening for a drink and with none of the Riff-raff smothering the other local Bars...just a quiet retreat with friends and it became our favorite spot in Charlottetown. Great venue for business or personal...presentation and staff professionalism a real treat. Top complements to our Bartender for the week, Andrew Nicholson...excellent service with a great attitude and makes the Red Water Charlottetown the top Bar in Town. read more

After a long day at the beach we didn't have much energy to find a good spot for dinner. We showered and changed in our hotel room at the Holman Grand and went downstairs for a quick meal. The staff was friendly and prompt. My son ordered a three cheese pizza which they brought right away. (He said he was STARVING.) We chose a bottle of wine from the extensive list, and while waiting for our meals we had a chance to look around the restaurant. The decor is beautiful! My husband ordered a steak and I had the feature, a pork tenderloin cooked to perfection. After a delicious sticky toffee dessert, we couldn't eat another bite. We enjoyed every aspect of our evening in the restaurant, and will definitely be back the next time we're in town. read more

My wife and I recently dined here on our first anniversary! We started with a smoked brie appatizer that was extremly tasty! Then we moved onto the main course! We both decided on steak which was perfectly cooked. I had potatoes and and mushrooms for my side while my wife chose asparagus and mushrooms with a cream sauce. I had a piece of ginger cake for dessert and my wife chose the rasberry creme brule. Both were melt in your mouth amazing! Our watress took exceptional care of us throughout the meal making sure our drinks were kept fresh and was very friendly! It was my first time eating here and will not be my last! read more

Fairly good hot and tasty food, but nothing unique to PEI(no lobster, hardly any seafood choices). Sea Salt Fries were fresh and very good, in addition to the Flatbread, Chicken Pasta and Shrimp. The big catch is how slow the service is. We waited a long time to have our order taken, and the food took a long long time to be brought out to the table. Overall a decent restaurant, with decent, high quality standard food and LONG wait times. read more
