Inside had so much character and charm, and to top it off there was live music playing and what an experience! This heritage property thoughtfully balances historic preservation with modern culinary aspiration. The kitchen demonstrates technical competence across a diverse menu spectrum. The oyster preparations showcase particular refinement--properly brined, impeccably fresh, presented with restrained elegance. The fish and chips transcends pub cliché through superior execution: crispy exterior yields to moist, flaky interior, complemented by properly balanced tartar. The house-made charcuterie reflects thoughtful sourcing and curing philosophy. The beverage program commands particular attention--the on-site brewery produces well-articulated craft selections that demonstrate brewing acumen beyond mere novelty. Beer pairings with dishes evidence intentional consideration. The wine selections, though modest, reflect deliberate curation. Aesthetically, the venue embraces its architectural legacy--brick, timber, and original details provide authentic context while contemporary flourishes avoid pastiche. The multi-level space accommodates various social configurations without compromising intimacy. Service delivery occasionally wavers between attentive and distracted, particularly during peak periods. Some dishes prioritize plating flourish over flavor coherence. The basement facilities, while charming, require navigation challenges for accessibility. Yet these minor inconsistencies cannot diminish what constitutes a destination meriting serious consideration. The Gahan House succeeds through integrated vision--culinary, architectural, and hospitality elements cohesively articulate genuine regional pride while embracing contemporary standards. A venue rewarding both casual visitation and intentional culinary exploration.

We arrived at 6:55 pm, there was a couple ahead of us and they were seated at a table right beside the front entrance. We were told our table was being set up for us. After 5 mins passed, the lady from the couple ahead of us said she didn't like their table and they were moved to the table they were preparing for us. We were then offered the table they had left. I said I didn't want that table either but was told that was the table we had to take or wait 25 mins. This all happened right in front of my eyes and frankly I was shocked. So your restaurant effectively ruined our valentines date. - I made a reservation over a month ago and it was confirmed. -We were made to feel like second class, take a table someone else didn't want. - The table being prepared for us was basically stolen/given away with zero thought. Now what was I supposed to do? What would you have done? I was completely embarrassed in front of my girlfriend, made to feel like I had to settle for what was given to me. Totally unacceptable! We left because I was extremely upset. Ruined the date, ruined the night. We walked around town freezing trying to find a place to eat. We won't be returning. Apologies for no food review but you need to eat there first!

We arrived on a Thursday evening in early June, and the restaurant wasn't quite half full, with tourism season still spinning up to full capacity. We were seated upstairs, which, like their whole space, gives the historic brick building centre stage. The menu a decent size for a place of Brickhouse's pedigree, with several apps and about a dozen mains. They were of the typical sort you'd expect to see in an up-casual restaurant, plus more seafood since you know, it's PEI. It's not particularly inventive or exciting, but there was still plenty of interesting options. I was feeling like some Island beef, so I opted for the short rib, while my other half went for the mac and cheese, with the gluten free noodles subbed in. The large chunk of boneless beef was ultra tender and juicy, and the velvety jus amplified that even more. The seasonal veg was a bit sparse and not especially exciting, but the crisp slices of roasted potato were a welcome addition to the plate. It's hard to have a bad mac and cheese, and Brickhouse passed with flying colours - plenty of cheesy goodness, and a nice bit of browning from some time under the broiler. A side salad of everything bagel-style Caesar salad could have used some more seasoning to make the famous bagel flavour more prominent in an already garlicky and savoury dish, but I appreciated the creative spin nonetheless. For dessert, we split the triple chocolate espresso cake. It presented really well, topped with a sliced strawberry and a dusting of confectioner's sugar and cocoa powder, in a pool of white chocolate pastry cream, but the execution wasn't quite up to the visuals. The cake was on the dense side, and wasn't moist enough to compensate, and the espresso flavour was MIA. Service was easy going and attentive. Brickhouse is lovely space in the heart of downtown Charlottetown, but the kitchen needs a little more attention to detail to truly stand out. It can be easy to coast by in a very touristy place, but people appreciate creativity and quality, no matter where they're from.
