    Road thru the campsite
    Nicole W.

This a great campground! It is directly off of 133, across a river, but there is very little traffic on that road. The Mech loop has no electrical or water hookups, so it is better for tents. They are mostly pull in and camp next to your car, no separate tent/camping area. The bear boxes are huge and amazing! The porta-poties are fabulous and have a special compost process to work thru the waste! The campground is far enough from anything to enjoy some wonderful star gazing! But be warned, the sun doesn't hit the valley until after 9am, so bring warm clothes!

Site on the power side it's shared but still very nice.

It was super easy to check in and they were kind enough to let us check in early (11:45am) They do offer cabin rentals, RV sites and tent sites. Our Site: We got a tent site and it was pretty big. A bit bigger than the rest and it was perfect for our party of 4. You can only bring one tent and it has to be on the tent pad so extra tents or any tents placed other than the tent pad are not allowed. Which was a huge bummer. We were 2 couples with 2 tents and had to purchase a bigger tent to fit all of us in it to fit on the pad. All in all we made it work. Parking: You have to register all vehicles that are staying in the campsite and only one car is allowed per site, which is somewhat of an inconvenience. Any extra vehicles are $5 more. We were told to park the extra vehicle in the extra parking spaces that were far away from our site. Bathrooms and Showers: They only have Male and Female bathrooms and showers an no gender neutral bathrooms or showers, so it can be very uncomfortable for masculine presenting women to go to the bathroom. They did say they had just remodeled the entire place so they completely missed the opportunity to be more inclusive. However, the bathrooms were very clean, and the showers were really nice. We did bring our own bathroom tent to avoid any type of uncomfortable encounters when having to use the little girls room and were told we could not have it bc they were trying to grow grass and any bodily fluids would be harmful to the soil. So we had to put our toilet away :( Each site has a fire pit and the camp ground offers wifi and a little convenient store. They do come around every other hour or so on their golf-cars selling fire wood and making sure everyone is following the rules. I honestly loved this place and would come back. The town's nearby are gorgeous and the staff here is super nice.

There are 15 campsites (FCFS) plus a small parking area for day use. CR 12 and FSR 706 are not paved, but any vehicle can travel the roads. The highlight of the campground is Lost Lake, a pristine alpine lake at 9600' elevation. The Beckwith Peaks are in the background. If you paddle across the lake (SUP or kayak - no motorized water craft) you get a stunning view of the Ruby Range. (No Ruby Range photos since I didn't bring my waterproof phone case this trip). The lake is dammed and is filled with snow runoff. Even in midJuly, the water was COLD. No chance in h e l l I was going to let myself fall off that SUP! But midJuly was prime time for the wild flowers. Lupine. Queen Anne's lace. Wild rose. Pentsemon. Sneeze weed. Cow parsnip. Fire weed. Absolutely stunning. The centerpiece of the park is this stunning trio of waterfalls--three streams of water pouring side by side over bright limestone cliffs, surrounded by the kind of lush greenery that feels almost tropical. It was like walking into a Colorado rainforest. Mist from the falls cooled the air, and everything around them felt alive--ferns, moss, chirping birds, and the occasional chipmunk darting across the path. The trails were surprisingly well maintained and easy to navigate. We started with the paved path that led right up to the base of the falls--perfect for just soaking in the view, and even wheelchair accessible. Then we took the Coyote Trail, which loops up around and behind the falls. That's where things got even more fun. The trail winds past a handful of small limestone caves, some of which you can crawl into and explore. One of them opened up into a surprisingly big cavern--we hadn't brought flashlights, but our phones did the trick, and the kids loved it. It felt like discovering secret chambers in a fantasy story. When we made it to the top of the falls, the view was totally worth the mild climb. You could look down and see all three cascades in full, framed by trees and cliffs. And with the mist rising in the sunlight, it felt absolutely magical--like something out of a painting. What I loved most was how much this park offered in such a compact space. Waterfalls, caves, trails, wildlife, creeks, picnic spots--everything felt close and accessible, but never crowded or rushed. It was peaceful, beautiful, and so well kept. Honestly, it's one of the best hidden gems I've stumbled upon in Colorado.

Note: I detracted one star because all the picnic tables for day visitors have been removed to discourage that activity. The only tables in the park are for the camp sites. We pulled into an empty site, since we did not see tables elsewhere, to have a quick lunch. We got a talking to from one of the park employees that it was not permitted. We were nearly done with lunch so we finished quickly and removed ourselves, making sure the area was as we found it. We then parked up at the trailhead parking. It is a pleasant walk to the base of the falls. Then we headed up the stairs that take you behind the falls as well as to some caves. My husband and his brother did the hike up and around to the top. My sister-in-law and I found a nice shaded bench to enjoy the views while we waited for them to return. It was an overall good experience. I would go back.

Even if you were next to the few sites that are next to the river the noise doesn't change. You could pull off on I-70 and get better rest and relaxation. I live on 5.5 acres in the Black Forest and realized I could RV better on my own property. Really a pity to waste the money and time to camp here. Life is too short. Had a mallet stolen from the RV as well. KOA workers are OK, but I wouldn't say inviting and warm. Carbondale is wonderful and the town and businesses there are great. That was the only upside.

Patti is very brash and rude in how she speaks to people! We didn't get in good when she snapped at us about having a dog in the office (ironically, we saw hers in the office as we checked out). Later, we were yelled at and treated like 5 year old's when she told us about burning in the fire pit. Yelled at like 5 year old's!!! What sane adult does that??? In regards to her comment to me in an email about fire "notices", no, there were no notices posted anywhere nor did "one of your employees come to the cabins and post notices". I know, I was there, all day, every day! NOTHING was posted on the door or window anywhere. After reading other reviews from previous tenants, Patti obviously does not know how to deal with people in an adult-like and respectful manner. In regards to Patti, I suggest...#1, she take several classes on customer service or #2, she needs to find another job that doesn't deal with people!!! The "manager" position does not work for her.
