Five stars doesn't really seem like enough for our experience with SCP Redmond Hotel…read more Our family held a gathering at SCP following my mother-in-law's funeral, and from beginning to end, everything exceeded our expectations. The venue was beautiful, the food was excellent, and the banquet staff and service were exceptional. But what truly set the experience apart was Kym. Two members of our family first walked into SCP the day after losing their mom, simply exploring whether it might be the right place for our family gathering. From that very first meeting, Kym met them exactly where they were emotionally, with a level of kindness, compassion, and understanding that went far beyond her role as an event coordinator. From that first meeting through the final moments of our gathering, Kym handled every detail with genuine care. She took something that could have felt overwhelming during an incredibly difficult week and made it easy for our family. We were able to simply be together, remember someone we loved dearly, share stories, laugh, cry, eat some great food, and not worry about anything else. You can provide a beautiful room. You can serve great food. You can deliver excellent service. SCP did all three. But you can't train someone to care the way Kym cared for our family. We will never forget what she and the entire SCP Redmond team did for us. There will always be a special connection to this place because of how we were treated during one of the most difficult weeks our family has experienced. From our entire family...thank you, Kym, and thank you SCP Redmond. We are deeply grateful.

I got good sleep and despite it not being top floor, I had no dancing neighbors above me. Instead, I had the neighbors that checked into 230 or 232 across the hall. The host handed me the key to room 229 and as I approached the door of my room in the hallway, I could see a woman with all her crap on the floor sifting through it looking for something. I didn't think any more of it and spent some time sorting through my things getting ready for work later that evening. I was hungry so I went downstairs to see what they offered in the pantry, found nothing that appealed and walked back to the stairs to floor 2. A wiry, angry looking man in a white T-shirt came down the hall towards me and went into the room where I'd seen the woman before. Again, didn't think much of it... until the screaming and shouting began. There were expletives and plenty of hate for an hour. I thought I heard someone getting hit and at one time I heard the woman screaming HELP over and over. I called the front desk, but no one answered, and I definitely didn't want to leave my room. The woman left and found she'd been locked out and started pounding on the door asking for her phone. (Yes, I could easily hear all this inside or outside their room from inside my room.) They finally left still screaming at each other thankfully so I was able to sneak out and get to the airport to do my job. When I returned the privacy tag was on their door and I hoped that was it. It wasn't. At 7:45 they started screaming and yellling again. I heard something being thrown. The man claimed she'd hit him in the head and she said it wasn't true. They left the room again with the man shouting "you're going to jail, bitch!" I'm shocked no one else heard this on floor 2. I checked out and left the hotel. Odds are, this is probably a one-off occurrence, but it'll make me think twice when I'm choosing between Hampton and Comfort Suites.

I find myself pretty surprised at the rating I am about to give a Motel 6, of all things, but…read morehonestly, the five stars are well-earned. Now, to preface, I am not going to claim that this (or any) Motel 6 is a five-star hotel. They're just not. They serve one purpose: budget accommodations for the road weary (or cheap) traveler. I'm not a travel snob by any means, and I've stayed at a Motel 6 before, and not all of the experiences have been pleasant. But this particular location has done quite a bit to salvage their reputation. This last weekend, my wife and I decided to take a day trip to Bend with our dogs, fully intending to return home the same day. When our day trip ran late into the evening hours (due to a chance encounter with some of my wife's friends from high school), we found ourselves facing a dilemma: drive home in the middle of the night, or find a dog-friendly hotel in the area. The former seemed unappealing, and the latter nearly impossible: most of the animal-accommodating accommodations were fully booked...save for a Motel 6 in Redmond, 15-minutes away. The rate ($79) was pretty damned reasonable, and we weren't exactly flush with choices. Upon arrival, we found the lobby to be pristine clean; a short line of customers checking in was quickly processed, and our own check in took little more than a minute. We trotted our puppers up to the room and settled in. Our room, Spartan and sparsely furnished, was clean and free of odors. The bed itself was raised up on metal leg posts, which were wrapped in foam to prevent shin-smacking. There will be no accolades awarded for the decor (blood orange curtains and Ikea-quality evoke the feeling of sleeping in a conference room), but the bed and pillows were surprisingly comfortable. I slept like a rock. I heard none of our adjoining guests (or their pets), despite the motel being fully booked. Check out took all of three seconds to drop off the card key. In short, the Redmond Motel 6 did their job competently, efficiently, and provided a clean, safe and convenient respite for us and our doggos. If I ever find myself in a similar scenario in the future, I won't be turning up my nose at the thought of staying at a Motel 6 again, if they can compare with the quality of the experience I was privy to here in Redmond.

We returned to Eagle Crest on an Interval International exchange using our Kona Coast Resort unit…read more Eagle Crest is a large project and it's a little confusing about which projects are managed by what company, so I am specifically reviewing the Worldmark Resort property and should not be applied to any other hotels or resorts at Eagle Crest. We have stayed at several Worldmark properties in the past, and this is our definite favorite. First off we were able to fly directly into Redmond from SFO, avoiding a two drive from Portland as that's how we came last time. The airport is small but that's a plus as far as we were concerned, and our Costco rental car from Budget was fine. Our check in was easy and Kiyah was a great rep for Worldmark. We got a text from her a few minutes after we were in the unit asking how things were, and that was a nice touch. The 2 bedroom 2 bath unit was perfect. We own two vacation rentals and live in Kona and are appreciative of a job well done. Everything was immaculate, and it seemed like it had been recently updated. I had called the week before, asking for a unit on the Deschutes river side, and we happily had an end unit with a great view. The gal I spoke with was friendly and let me know that checkin had moved so I had a google map address which made it easy to find. The kitchen had everything one could ask for and more. The dishwasher was the only appliance that needs retirement lol. The bedroom with attached bath and a work desk was excellent. It was relaxing to take a long hot bath in a huge tub after a long flight. We used the Weber grill on the patio three times during the week we were there. The Sisters meat market in Redmond is well worth a visit. One word of warning for people that have problems with stairs: this is a multi floor unit. You enter at one level and go down a flight of stairs to the living room and kitchen and one bedroom with two twins. From the entry you go up a flight to the main bedroom with huge bath/shower and king bed. So there are lots of stairs if you are going up and down from the living room (which is so cozy with the gas fireplace) up to the main bedroom. I'd find someplace else that had less stairs if that's a criteria. I'm typing this as I use the fast 500 mbps (ookala speedtest) internet and we are streaming from our ipad all of our regular addictions. My one complaint, and it is a major one, is the horrible cheap mattresses. There were far too firm, and terrible for both of our backs, resulting in back and neck aches. Perhaps they'd sourced them from a cheap manufacturer, but saving money on mattresses is foolish especially these days when you are judged on how comfortable a nights sleep is. We managed to survive by taking the comforters from the twins and placing them across the king mattress where our hips and shoulders were aching and then got a couple more blankets from housekeeping. It helped, but not enough. We fortunately were staying in an airbnb the following week with a fantastic mattress and the contrast was stunning. I complained about this on our last visit, hopefully with the management change that happened in the summer they will allocate funds to refresh a crucial part of the guest experience, a restful nights sleep. Again, this is a Worldmark exchange and should not be confused with any other property at Eagle Crest. Interval International exchanges have different rules and costs and things like internet access are included. Your experience without being an II member or Worldmark owner may be very different. We exchanged a week in a beautiful timeshare in Kona to stay here and were quite happy. For us, this is one of our favorites and we will definitely be back. Mahalo.
