Contractors hate me. And here is the story of why: I do my…read morehomework. The following windows contractors for bids on a house a mix of old huge various sized wood/aluminium/vinyl windows and some horrible Amsco windows: Alside / HDI Glass Advanced Window Products Acent Windows Murray Glass Window Depot of Utah Anderson Renewal All Purpose Glass/USI Glass Home Depot Lowes Champion Windows Window World And I vetted them. I found out who REALLY makes their windows and read all their material and eveything. I asked for their Energy Performance Ratings, U-Factors, and everything. That's when they started to get annoyed. Some just said "go to nfrc.org" and so... I did. Which is a horrible website by the way, endless charts and tables difficult to browse. Anyways, the sales people were not expecting that. I asked them to give me the makes and models of the windows they would be using. Most literally didn't know and had to check. And at this point, some stopped calling me back. Do you know why? Because they knew if a buyer ACTUALLY did their homework, they'd soon know their windows were crap/cheap windows. Most people's brochures were also very out of date; the windows they were selling weren't even the same. My personal bids ranged from $2601 (Alside/HDI) to $9,688 (Anderson). Murray Glass, Accent Windows and Alside/HDI Glass, Window World ALL use Alpro (AMI) Windows, typically Fairfield 70/80 or Amsco. Advanced Windows, Champion and Anderson Renewal all uses their own stuff. Which I like a lot. HD and Lowes both use builders entry level windows, but claim they are mid end. Doing your homework counts. I was disappointed at them telling me they are a "step up" then they are the first step. So yeah, the Anderson Renewal, I'm sure they do have the best windows, but are they really REALLY worth an extra $1,000 EACH window? No kidding, and they didn't thermally perform as well (U 0.29 vs U.21) as the ones I chose. Window Depot gave me some quotes but they said they found some higher end triple pane windows for more BUT after the rebates it would only be a few dollars more than the lower end ones. Perfect. That's the kind of cleverness and hunting I want from a window provider. They used PlyGem windows, triple pane and I am very happy with them. I paid ~$3,000, which included a few lead window removal, which is wicked complex and annoying. Yes, Windows Depot do subcontract out the windows, and the guy/crew that game to my house was a real craftsman with decades of experience; that's all I care about. Like one windows I was 100% certain the stucco around a window would be damaged, I counted on it, ( "windows was 9 blocks of glass) and yet it looks totally perfect. You really can't even tell, and yet they had to sledgehammer it out of the wall. I know I'm an annoying customer with all my questions, even John @ Window Depot may have grown weary with me, but he got my business and this awesome well deserved positive review. So I literally got the best performing windows, after the rebates, on the lower end of the pricing spectrum. And yes they all have lifetime warranties and such. I like the windows immensely. They feel stronger and not as flimsy as Advanced Window Products, and they are triple pane. I paid only a little more than the lower end bids with crap windows, and got a higher product, better thermal rating and all install properly and very well done.

He tried to tell me that it was my dogs that were pushing the window out. The dogs were in the equation when the windows were quoted and installed. I just paid to have another window company come out and do the repair. They told me the window had ZERO anchors on the bottom and with it being a West facing window the heat is what was making it come apart and bow. The windows are great from Window Depot. The customer service after the fact sucks! I will choose another company to do my remaining 20 windows!

Even emailed invoicing with quick easy click and pay feature was a breeze. Now for the best part - it cost less than I expected it to! Does that ever happen? The entire Gutter system has never been touched, and the siding repair was on the NON INSURANCE APPROVED areas, with the APPROVED AREAS not even touched. So, I still have a damaged house (except for the roof) and now I have to Get It Done Myself!!! Yeah, even if by some kind of miracle someone shows to complete the work, I will shoo them away. I don't want ANYONE associated with CBX even walking PAST my house. Worst part? CBX wanted to be PAID IN FULL for ALL the work. They got paid for the roof, and that's all they will EVER get from me.

I let them know I had some new panels that could be used on the roof which they hauled away and did not use. Then they put the same kind of panels on the roof and charged full bore price for them. There was no credit for the new panels they hauled away. The inspection was poorly done or they planned to do cost overruns all along. They ripped into the roof and then called and said it would be more than their bid. It was raining every other day so it was impossible to leave the roof open and find someone else. Since I was receiving medical treatment and they knew it I was unable to inspect that the work they claimed had been done. Then when they were done they didn´t inform us but just debited my account and claimed they couldn´t contact me. It is interesting they were able to contact me easily before that time. There was no credit given for the new panels they hauled away and Kimball claimed they were too short. Previous work had required the same size panels and these were so long. Apparently the panels shrink according to what Kimball said. They don´t shrink but that is the only way his statement could be true. He said he was going to return them but didn´t. Kimball has responded but does not address the real issues. As seems normal only half truths. I did complain to CPS of Utah and they told me that in this case I would have to sue since they are a mediation service and Kimball is not interested in mediation.

The price he quoted was as good as the roof & gutters cost. Again the crews did beautiful work putting up the hardy board siding to cover the patch - painting and installing beautiful aluminum soffit and fascia. I can't pick my jaw up of the ground. My house is no longer the ugliest place on the street.

I will also be adding my review to Angie's List. We paid for a full siding job for our house after meeting with the owner of Franke Siding and Rain Gutters. He implied that he would be doing the job and offered all sorts of promises. Most of which we knew wouldn't happen but the bid was acceptable and he seemed great. He did not install the job at all. Instead he sent one of the worst people I've come across that has worked on our house. And that is saying something. The job took 3 times as long as promised. Which would have been fine because that is ALWAYS the case with contractors. Why they lie about such things is almost comical. The worst of this experience is that our siding is defective and seems to be melting off the house. This job was started in April and finished about the 3rd week of May. Before it was totally complete we already had pieces falling off the house. We had just brought my daughter home from Primary Children's Hospital on hospice and was at home, dying from leukemia. The owner still didn't give one consideration to our problems to come and replace the defective product as promised. I feel, for this alone, he has no soul! Aside from the defective product, his employee cut our tenants cable lines and we had to have Direct TV come out and fix the problem, costing us money. The owner, Mike Franke, promised SEVERAL times to reimburse us this cost and has not done so. Mike came to our house in June to look at the defective siding. He stated that he had never seen siding appear to melt and that he offered a lifetime guarantee on our installation and the product. He said he would get with the manufacturer and would get the siding replaced. This was in JUNE! I have never heard from him again. He had also promised to bring me a check for the cable repair when he looked at the defective siding but conveniently forgot his checkbook and promised to return the next day with the money. I haven't heard from him since this visit in June. I have emailed him repeatedly and I have called and texted and I have never heard one word since his visit in June. If I can do anything at all, it would be to warn EVERYONE not to do business with this company. He is not an honest person. He doesn't care about providing a product that he promises. He has no soul! They replaced my gutters, flashing and sheeting along with moisture barrier underlay.. lots of work.. all done in just a couple of days! They had a lot of clean up! They striped 2 layers of old shingles off and replaced my entire gutter system. The new was a big improvement over the original! Here it is!…read more I wanted to inform people about S&S roofing, as I spent over 6K on overlay to my existing roof a little over 9 years ago. I decided to go with S&S roofing. We discussed putting a 2nd layer over top as they stated it will be just as good, and a few thousand dollars cheaper. I originally thought they did a great job, and they had a site manager inspect the roof when it was finished. He came down and informed me everything was good. Now I am a 100% disable veteran who has had back surgery from supporting the war in Iraq, so I cannot climb up on a roof anymore. Due to the harsh winter we are in I called up to S&S roofing two weeks ago to see if I could get someone to check my roof out as I was hearing noises I have not heard before. She spoke to me in all reality very snotty way. She said, "Well that was over 9 years ago and the warranty of the shingles are through the company who makes them, not us. If you wish for us to come, check your roof there will be a charge of $350." I said really, no thanks there is a couple of companies I will call who will check my roof for free, and hung up. I went on the BBB website and selected a couple of companies listed and gave them a call. They both came out and checked the roof and both stated the same thing: The shingles are fine, BUT there are issues. When they installed the shingles they did not run the shingles all the way to the house. They did not put any flange Flashing or caulking to protect the water from seeping under the shingles. There is a very evident gap between the house and where the shingles stop throughout the existing roof. They informed me the only thing that is saving me is the existing roof that is there, because the water is going under the shingles and running down on to the original roof shingles. I will have one of these companies do my work. I put my trust into this company and I thought would last me 30 years. Don't believe what they say, and get it in writing. I will warn my fellow Veterans to stay clear of this company
