Was asked by the young Latin girl with curly hair to pay $425 and get a smog and vin verification. Came back after getting the smog and vin verification across the street at the DMV. After talking to The same girl, she now wants another $125. Wtf!. So I paid $125 on another credit card as she requested. Now she's taking forever staring at the computer screen... Then asks for the credit cards again.?. I asked why?. She said she couldn't register my car there because they are limited to what they can do and that I needed to go to the official dmv office. She fefunded the $125 but couldn't refund the $425 after trying several times. I was told I would need to dispute the $425 with Bank of America? The next day I called to talk to the owner/supervisor but they DO NOT ANSWER PHONE CALLS THERE, goes to voicemail. Left a message for the owner asking to call me back about this problem, was never called back!. Be very careful when going here!. I guess when your car hits 8 years, the first smog needs to happen and coincided just shy of 8 years *eye roll* I was in the area and came across Hayward Auto Care (HAC). STAR certified location which i realized (later) is overkill for my low-mileage and maintained vehicle. I was told up front the cost (was a bit surprised) and in hindsight, should've gone to a regular Smog Check location. Yes, I should've done my homework beforehand (failed) and paid more for convenience. Completed in 20mins. I would consider returning for other services. Be sure to utilize their COUPON (discount) on their Smog Service and other services located on their site! Disclaimer: There was no hard sell and/or pressure from Ken or his son who were friendly and efficient. I found out I would have to pay a $100.00 fee for their service. In my opinion - that is a very large extra cost! I did not go there... He responded quickly to my questions on Yelp messaging and answered all my questions, whereas other services either didn't reply for a long time or didn't even answer the question (or maybe didn't understand?). When the car arrived, I called him and he explained exactly what to expect. Pull up in front, or park on 12th and Fruitvale, give him a ring, and he'll come out to inspect the car, then we'd go inside to finish the paperwork. All I had to do was bring the title. He forgot to mention on the phone that he charges a 3% credit/debit card fee if not using cash, but there was a sign in the office stating this so it wasn't a surprise or anything. Within minutes, he gave me 2 plates, stickers, and the registration document, and filled out all the paperwork for me, I just had to sign in two places. I took a photo of all the pages and he said I would receive everything back in the mail from the DMV. There's a $5 off with Yelp check-in and I forgot to mention it until after he already charged me, but he gave me a $5 bill back, which I immediately went and used for tacos at Tacos Sinaloa #4 across the street ($3 per taco if you're wondering). Well worth paying for a service like this rather than try to figure out everything yourself and line up at the DMV. I was probably done with my tacos by the time someone would've finished up at the DMV.
