Staff were friendly and welcoming but the hotel itself was pretty awful in fact could do with gutting out completely and starting fresh. The rooms looked tired and dirty, avocado suite in bathroom very retro, and the beds were extremely uncomfortable! Never again.

The boring menu and appalling surroundings were such that, even though we'd come miles to eat lunch we left after my quickest ever pint to find somewhere half decent. This time I couldn't actually believe it was the same place at first glance. An almost miraculous improvement in both look and feel. Externally it's magnificent now. It should be, it sits beside the river in the affluent suburban village of Busby. Outside there used to be two picnic tables, now they have proper seating and more of it. I can't recall if you can see the river from here, but at least you're no longer sitting in the car park! The conservatory frontage is a huge, brightly lit view into the spanking new bar-restaurant inside. I couldn't wait to get in there. The fit-out internally is quite impressive too. It looks like a hotel bar, but a very good one. Eclectic fixtures and fittings effectively break up the space and make the place interesting to look at. Retro vintage light bulbs shine out from old plumbing, and clusters of light shades hang upside-down like the flowers pulled from a magician's cuff. The central bar itself is a shiny, gleaming altar to the beer. It stocks American craft on tap and in bottles, but better than that it stocks local craft beer from Drygate, Williams and West. They do wine too, not sure about cocktails though. We did have to wait a few minutes to get seated, but it was an extremely busy first Monday night. We were shown to our table and it did feel a bit on the periphery, but we were close to the kitchen pass so there was plenty of action - the front-of-house staff were rushed off their feet, but when we did get served after a further few minutes they were great. I went for the Squid & Tiger Prawn Duo to start and a Diavola Pizza. I wasn't really a fan of squid, but I thought I'd give it another go, I'm still not really a fan of squid. I think it was cooked well though, it wasn't rubbery - the first test - and it was slightly chewy. I think that is how it is meant to be (?) so fair play. The prawns had the same thin breadcrumb on them as the squid, they were nice, but really the mayo was a bit stingy for the portion size. A pretty good first course though. My Diavola came out next. It wasn't huge, I would have liked a bit bigger, but it would be enough for most appetites. I liked the spicing on it, so often you get a diavola and it's a bit insipid, this had a nice kick. The bread was a bit dry though, more cheesy oiliness and/or a more evenly spread tomato base would have taken it to a higher plane. In summary then a good three for the food, but for the whole package I'll give it a four.

I first heard about it as my boyfriend recalled being taken here as a youngster by his mum for a cup of tea after visits to the orthodontists next door. The food is lovely and it is all reasonably priced - from sandwiches to heftier meals. They do a pre-theatre menu of 2 courses for £9.95 which is excellent value because the food here is good quality and genuinely nice. The bar in the middle also ensures a pleasant atmosphere.

This pub is also a hotel with 8 rooms and was where my parents stayed when they visited Glasgow recently. I checked out their room when they arrived and was really impressed - clean, slick and modern. A double room is £80 a night and includes breakfast. We ate in the hotel restaurant on a Sunday evening and got a booking for a table pretty easily - mind you, there was a football match on so take that into account if you are going to book ahead as the bar and restaurant were packed with people. We had a booth table booked for us and the staff even offered to move us to a quieter space if the football got too rowdy which I thought was nice. They have a private dining area at the front of the hotel which I think they only use for breakfast for the hotel guests. I wasn't overly hungry as we'd had a big lunch, so I ordered two starters - one from the pre-theatre (house) menu and one from the a la carte. I wasn't sure whether this would be an issue but the staff weren't phased at all. I got a bowl of Cullen skink and garlic mushrooms in a filo pastry basket. The wait wasn't long and I was impressed with the presentation of both the dishes. The portion sizes were really generous and I really couldn't fault either of the dishes - the mushrooms were lovely and creamy, and the soup had just the right amount of flavour and wasn't too hot. The food is really decent pub food, and for that I really recommend this place. The prices are reasonable, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere was totally buzzing while we were there. I always forget to go here when we're looking for a local meal, but I'll try harder to remember what a wee gem the OP is in future.

You either pay the price and join and know it is expensive or you leave and go to a less salubrious club. Parklands is quality in many areas. The gym is jam packed with Hi-Tec Nautilus machines and provides a really cool place to workout in and surpasses my old club like the Ivy Court Leisure club in Shawlands that I was at previous to joining Parkies. The place at times was not well looked after with some of the gym equipment fraying and falling apart, the shower area having cracked tiles, broken showerheads and lots of little issues but in general the place is as pukka as you will find and although I have to say the prices are sky high they did do a refit which upgraded a lot of the problems. If you are a snob like me and prefer to workout away from the great unwashed and avoid the riffraff then Parklands is the perfect place to be, otherwise you can just go to John Lloyds in Deaconsbank or the massive one down in Giffnock and mingle with the scum, perhaps get your tyres slashed or mugged when you leave at night but if you try them; And I have! You will realise why Parklands is more expensive, it is just a better experience. Never seen a problem in Parklands since the early years when it first opened and all the n'eer do wells from the village started coming in for a swally and a fight on the Weekend, mind you they even had a local drug dealer who has done time for GBH working in the gym which was a bit of a surprise but maybe he is gone now...Hopefully but then there have always been drug dealers in any gym from Parklands to Ivy court punting their Anabol and steroid junky food so no change there then - They really should be careful with the fact there are quite a few Police officers and ex police officers like me working out there - Naughty naughty!!! All in all Parklands is a bit of an institution in the Mearns and in all my years I haven't found a more pukka club with the exception of Golds Gym in California or the Toliar in Slovakia so if you have money to burn, prefer to workout in a gym with other toffee nosed snobs who know the price of everything but the value of nothing, you will do quite well here!

I'm not really sure where to classify it : it has the layout and atmosphere of a cafe but the staff and clientele are very formal. It feels slightly old fashioned but I seem to be in a minority because it's so busy!!! Ordered lunch once the rest of the family arrived. More confusion though - menu is quite simple: sandwiches, burgers, pasta, pizza etc. But the presentation was fussy and formal. The (burnt) kids pizza came with a side salad which was served in a cup and saucer. The (enormous) club sandwich came on a board rather than a plate. All a bit fussy for the simple food it should have been. The prices were OK - less than £5 for the kids main courses; an omelette was around £8. It was all ok and I won't be rushing back.
