Like many other women, I had had past experiences with OBGYNs that leave you, frankly, feeling like cattle. Just in and out and sometimes not even a "bye" before leaving the room. That same day, I looked further and made an appointment to meet with Naomi, not really knowing much about midwifery. When I met with her, and we discussed unmedicated birth and home birth and what she and her staff offer, I just knew that this was right for me. I had not really ever wondered about a birthing experience for me but this felt so right. I still remember anxiously thinking, "oh, please have room to take me" as she calculated my due date and reviewed the births she already had scheduled for the month of May. To my joy, Naomi had room for me and so our journey began together until several weeks after my son was born safely at home. During our appointments, Naomi took all the time we needed to ask questions, hear our baby, and connect. I never felt rushed, judged, and truly felt cared for by Naomi and her staff. I feel so blessed to be able to look back at my birthing experience and feel so much love for this beautiful tribe of women (Naomi, her staff, Mariah and Krista, and my doula) all working together, calmly and soothingly coaching me, to assist me in brining my baby into this world free or chaos and to validate all my overwhelming postpartum tears and meet them with such love and compassion. I don't know that I will have another child but if I do, I know that I will look forward to seeing everyone at Redding Midwifery as much as I would look forward to seeing my belly grow.

She has a gift for teaching, and always has an agenda of things she wants to discuss or ask questions about, so I felt sooo informed and confident after each and every appointment! Peaceful, informed, prepared, empowered, minimal intervention, fear-free, joyful... birth as it was meant to be. My birth at the Shasta Midwives birth center was the best day of my life. Restored my faith in myself as a strong capable mother. The midwives protected our family space, carefully monitored our safety, and trusted my mothers instincts...and there was not one instant where I did not like or felt out of control with what was happening. If you desire an out of hospital birth you cannot get better. thank you Sue

I was so lucky to find Sue after my family and I relocated to Shasta when I was 37 weeks pregnant. From the very beginning my interactions with Sue and her team were always positive and full of learning. Sue has such a kind way of explaining everything there is to know about birthing and answering all questions in a non-judgmental and knowledgeable manner --she's also extremely funny which made all of our visits a delight. Such a profound honor it is to be stepping from maiden into the birthright that is Mother and it's a real privilege to be cared for by a strong, kind, and powerful women. I am deeply grateful to Sue Wolcott and her assistants for holding patience and positivity during my long labor. They drove during a blizzard, had little sleep and despite it all showed love and compassion all the way through. From a deep place in my heart words cannot explain the gratitude that I have even more than these words can express for these three women. Sue and her team provided excellent, personalized care that every wombyn needs during such a delicate time. She trusts your body to do what it was meant to do and works as your advocate throughout the whole process - including the post-partum period. As I said earlier on, I couldn't be more grateful and happy with my experience and strongly recommend Sue's services to everyone. I do intend to return to this center for my second birth. Holy Ix Chel Mother of all pray for us now and at the hour of our trials.

This experience was truly unlike any other and we would do again without hesitation If we were to have any more babies in the future! My first birth was in the hospital and while I still managed to have an unmedicated natural birth, the experience was entirely different from start to finish. At Bloom you are cared for by all of the wonderful midwives who make you feel like family. This is one of the only healthcare experiences where I absolutely did not mind seeing a different provider at each visit (there are only 3 midwives) but they are each equally amazing and each bring such valuable experience and perspective. They are always willing to make themselves available and It was so comforting to be able to call or text with any questions or concerns I had. Its truly a unique experience now a days to be able to have a completely relaxed and unrushed prenatal appointment in a peaceful environment, compared to the typical medical office experience where you are often treated impersonally and rushed out with only 10-15 minutes of your providers time (my past Experience at least). On more than one occasion Heidi, Kristi, and Adri would spend over an hour talking with me to address anything I wanted to talk about. They are incredible humans and it honestly felt more like hanging out with your best girlfriends where you can feel safe to open up about anything! And ofcourse they are all highly experienced and knowledgeable- never once did I have concern that if things were to go south during my birth that they wouldn't be able to recognize it immediately and act accordingly. Heidi and Adri along with Kassie their student midwife were the ones who attended the birth of my daughter and their presence was so calming throughout the whole process. They respected my wishes and went above and beyond to support me and my partner at all the right moments when we needed them, without interfering in OUR process. Their encouragement and many empowering discussions we had about trusting your instincts leading up to my birth gave me the confidence to follow my intuition, trust my body, and just relinquish control- which in the end was key. No matter how many times you birth there is always some level of anxiety and nerves leading up and I can truly say that the moment we set foot inside Bloom while I was in active labor I felt all the fear instantly Melt away and I was ready (and Excited!) to meet my baby. The familiarity of the space (after attending every appointment there in the same building) and the rapport you build with these women makes all the difference when you are about to give birth- the most raw and open you will ever be both physically and emotionally. I feel so grateful to have had such an amazing experience. I prayed and envisioned a peaceful waterbirth surrounded by people who care for me and that that is exactly what they helped bring to fruition. We prepared, birthed and recovered all under one roof in the most beautiful suite that feels more like someone's beautiful home in the woods or a lovely hotel suite, and these women even came to my home for several postpartum appointments to meet me in my most vulnerable moments. All I can say is-What a gift. If you are on the fence about where to birth I can assure you it was worth it in all respects and I wish I could do it again!

However, I NEEDED the support I got -- from hour-long prenatal visits that truly encompass the whole family's values to the birth itself, these women were a godsend to our family. I unfortunately had a complicated birth, and ended up going to the hospital. Having the midwives there with us made the experience SO MUCH less scary. I can't even begin to explain how priceless their presence in the hospital was -- at 3am nonetheless! The lactation support was also key, and got us set up to have a very healthy breastfeeding routine. However, the most important thing that I didn't know I'd need was the postpartum support. You guys, having a baby is WILD. You think about the pregnancy and the birth, but nobody really prepares you for what comes next. I was able to call the midwives and get help after our baby was born, with everything from sleeping arrangements with a newborn to what to do when he got a cold at 3 weeks old. You just don't get this level of care anywhere else. Please consider this option for your family -- it's worth it!

Every expectant mother, no matter if it's your first or 10th, needs Te'sa. It will completely change your experience of pregnancy and labor. Throughout my pregnancy with my son she had THE BEST wisdom and knowledge to offer me whenever I had a question or concern- emotional struggles, diet, breastfeeding, physical concerns, newborn baby questions, insurance confusion, hospital policies and routines, and so much more. She was available anytime I needed (which was a bunch), and she never made me feel rushed. She was so prompt and thorough with her communication. I always felt so cared for and listened to- a big deal when your pregnant and you see tons of medical professionals who all have their own opinions. I had such fear and anxiety at becoming a new mom, but her gentle strength always made me feel safe and hopeful. Having her as my doula built my confidence as the months went by. We had a hospital birth, and she was exactly what I needed in those moments. She knew what we needed when we needed it (like knowing when I was needing water but couldn't communicate, or getting photos and videos of the birth when me and my husband completely spaced about it ). Now I have an absolutely beautiful healthy baby boy. I am loving being a mom, and now feel every choice I made (with Te'sa's help) was the right one. Thanks to T, the journey of pregnancy and motherhood became a fun and wonderful adventure.
