After driving by this place literally for decades, we finally stopped in for lunch. Fantastic experience, great food, and we even got served by Patrick the owner. At the absolute very least, you need to eat here once just to appreciate the historic charm and eclectic interior design. In other words, it's really cool inside. That said, we'll definitely be going back (especially because of the affordable pricing). Food was great, too. Had burgers, the gator appetizer, and the fried green tomatoes/pickles appetized. Gator was probably my favorite, but the burgers were great too. Nice thick piece of meat, cooked to the right temp, and delicious. Definitely give this place a go! read more

Red Wing Restaurant - Gator appetizer! - New American Near Me - Groveland, Florida

The one star is for nothing. They have always been disorganized but this takes the cake. Got there early as it was valentines. Too bad they ran out of prime rib at 6:30pm. Seriously, don't advertise if you're not prepared. 3-3 tops walked out at the same time. 30 minutes and still no service. This may be the last time. Very disappointed as we change our reservation for Red Wing and cancelled the other reservation. Guess we will go to White Castle. Hopefully they won't run out of those little burgers. Aways short staffed and it's starting to be recognizable each time I stop in. No hostess ever, this seems to be more of a greed problem and they were understaffed as always. Oh, and they always run out of prime rib. Hate to say, but you destroyed my special Valentines Day read more

Food is great especially the game , quail, elk chops, garlic mashed potatoes, service was excellent, family owned , cozy feeling in the dining area. We are going to come back soon. read more

After a day at Lakeridge Winery we stopped at Red Wing knowing we would have left overs for dinner. We started with the gator nuggets, I won't ruin the surprise but I will say order the gator. The meal came with a salad and I have to believe the blue cheese dressing was homemade. I did the steak tips cooked rare which makes heating up my leftovers easier the garlic mashed potatoes are the real deal. Hubby order the crab stuffed salmon which came seasoned veggies, everything was delicious last night and tonight, but wait there's more. Ms Betty was in the house and she told a few stories but when she mentioned the orange cake her voice changed, I can confirm I have never had such a yummy treat. Highly recommended this is where the locals go. A decent wine list is also a benefit. read more

This is definitely a local historic dining restaurant. Servers know the regulars, what they eat and drink. Newbies stand out but don't worry, one visit and the staff gets to know you. On this Saturday in June 2024, we stopped by for what we thought as an early dinner. The place was hopping and saw only 2 servers with plenty of kitchen help. Food is fresh and they have daily specials too. On this day Tomato was the soup of the day, prime rib was available in 3 sizes, Jack, Queen, and King. Excellent prices too. Note: No horseradish available for the prime rib. Service is Southern slow to the point that our salad came out with our dinners. The wine is available by the glass or bottle. The glass is $8 with a full pour. Nothing fancy but it went great with our meals. There are some local beers too. Didn't see any other bar options. Plenty of ice tea and lemonade too. The menu list chicken, steak, pork, and exotic meats, which included gator, quail, catfish, frog to name a few. Entrees come with soup or house salad, vegetables, and a choice of mashed potatoes, baked potato, or white rice. For $1.50 more you can upgrade the salad to a Caesar. The baked potato comes with butter and sour cream, if you ask for it. I went with the Maple Pecan boneless pork chops which were delicious and had the grill markings. Perfectly cooked. Only negative was the plate was drowning in water from the vegetables melody of zucchini, squash, and carrots. Shame, because it diluted the maple pecan flavor of the chops. The potato was perfectly cooked. My husband went with the prime rib and said it was delicious. He still had leftovers because even the Jack was a full plate. Our server informed us the Apple Cobbler had been made an hour ago and was a good dessert. We took it to go, because honestly neither of us could eat another bite. This is a working farm and animals are seen roaming in the back fenced area. Signs are posted too not to feed the animals. The restaurant is kid friendly and the menu does include kid size meals. The decor is very rustic and game prizes hang throughout. The bathroom really needs a complete makeover for it really is nasty. The booths need to be reupholstered, and seem to add to the rustic feel. Overall, the food was good, the service bearable, the prices excellent ,and worth the experience. read more

What can I say about Red Wing? Old school, REAL Florida especially if you like real food. Service is excellent, Erica took great care of us and made us feel welcome. in fact, all of the staff are top notch. Great spot for a birthday (Florida sunshine cake!!!). Will come back again and again and so will you! read more

This wasn't our first time there, but it was our first time having the owner wait on us. He was most pleasant. He even brought the specials board to our table. Our Angus burger was delicious, the fries were hot and so was the tomato bisque. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and will be back. It was nice and warm inside. You should try it if you haven't been. read more

Holy Cow! A TRUE hidden gem. I am hesitant to written this review bc I like hidden gems! Menu is crazily diverse and well thought out. Owner was tending bar and offered several off menu options that were tough to turn down. So, I didn't. It was lunch so I went with a fish sandwich which may have been the best I've ever had. Other folks were having lobster tail and prime rib, duck wings and quality entrees. It's off the beaten path but I will be beating that path until it's well worn! read more

Been here several times over the years and the food and service have always been up to par. We were there most recently for lunch on a Saturday and were surprised by the availability of 7 or 8 specials plus the regular menu. The only downside for our party in their 70's and 80's who have become accustomed to "comfort height" toilets was that the rest rooms had lower toilets. While the men's room has a bar which helped getting up, the lady's room did not. read more

One of my family's favorite restaurants. In a world full of chains they are still a great small local feel with great food and incredible service. Diana, Erica, and Frankie on Friday always take great care of my family and are the definition of going above and beyond. Red wing is not just a great part of our community but a part of our family. Writing a review for them and I will get rid of my phone. read more

Prime rib is outstanding!! Remember, good food takes time , so if you're in a hurry go to a drive thru. Folks are friendly, great service, and the decor is what you would expect from a restaurant that sells game meat. Highly recommended. Open limited hours and days. read more

Ordered liver and onions and asked server to have the cook to prepare it med rare. Also to have the mashed potatoes topped with the onion gravy from the liver. It came out well done and mostly burnt. Gravy was made with knorr Swiss powdered demi glace mix. The veggies were cooked to death. The mashed were good but lacking seasoning. The pretzel rolls were good and so was the orange cake. read more

First time visiting Red Wing restaurant and had the all-you-can-eat fish dinner. The food was excellent, and Diana, our waitress, was superb and very inviting to the restaurant. I would highly recommend and support this family owned business. The atmosphere was cozy and rustic, not a chain restaurant, but much much better. I highly recommend Red Wing and will definitely be visiting many more times in the near future. read more

You can't beat this type of wild game food anywhere near here. Yes, the prices can get high if you don't watch yourself, but we already knew that. The ambiance is quaint and even though the staff is stretched thin, the service is much faster than they tell you. Kimberly was on point and even the extras that were missing were brought to the table with speed. The salads were brought out fresh and the appetizers were timed perfectly. There is only beer and wine, but it doesn't matter as you're already digging into the fresh in house eats. The veggies would be better grilled, but you don't even pay attention. The steak was mostly cooked perfectly. Some could have been cooked a bit longer, but we were the last table of the night. The kids tried the quail and frog legs and said they loved it so much. Gator bites and fried pickles; fantastic. The sauces are made fresh in house. Even the tea impressed the kids. One of the few places that still serve amber bock too. The quail was seasoned perfectly. We have plenty for lunch tomorrow and even when home the kids still had room for the chocolate lava cake. You just can't get this barn to table food around here. Pay the price and tip well. Again. Thanks Kim et al. read more

Excellent food, a very surprising find, the aesthetic is totally not an indication of good quality. It was outstanding!

An unexpected gem in the countryside of South Lake County! The food is excellent and includes everything from outstanding burgers to high-end steaks and a great variety of meats, poultry and game. Service is attentive and friendly, and you are always made to feel welcome. It's a unique place quite unlike any other in the area, and definitely not to be missed! read more

Great stop heading in/out of town. We stopped for take out and RR break. Stretched our legs and admired the private farm behind the restaurant. My toddlers enjoyed watching the baby pigs. We ordered the Shaved prime rib Philly, crab cake sandwiches and mushrooms burger. All fresh ingredients cooked to southern flare perfection. Worth a trip out of your way for this little hidden gem! After having lived only 20 minutes from this place for the past year, I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner. The outside of the restaurant is very quaint and reminds me of being on vacation in northern Michigan as a kid. My boyfriend and I parked on the grass and saw the people we were meeting hanging out with a bunch of animals! There were baby pigs, donkeys, turkeys....it was awesome. Once inside, I noticed the restaurant had a very divey, family vibe to it. The place is small, but cute. All of the staff seemed to be very nice and enthusiastic. Now the important part, the grub. This place is exactly how a couple of other Yelpers put it, hillbilly gourmet. They have a variety of "all you can eat" options that change on a daily basis, but I opted for the grilled chicken early bird special. The chicken cam with a garden salad, steamed veggies, and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were AMAZING! I couldn't stop eating. My guy ordered the fried haddock early special and it was fantastic too. For dessert, we split the molten chocolate cake with ice cream. Again, it was AMAZING! Words can't even describe how good all of the food was. Even if you're not in the area, you have to eat here. Seriously. You must. You won't regret it! read more

We came here after a few of my wife's coworkers mentioned eating here. It was a little early and the rain was coming down and a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect, so we were the only ones in the restaurant for a while. The server was exceedingly attentive, even with the couple of requests we had. As we were finishing up, more people started to show up. The decor is pretty unique. Gaston would approve of all of the antlers. The fried pickles were awesome and buffalo chicken mac n cheese was great. The meat n potato soup was a bit heavy and bland, though. My wife had the catfish and enjoyed it. We finished off with the apple cobbler. That was delicious, too. Since the rain died down, we went by the animals adjacent to the parking lot. They are all sweet and love the attention. read more

Love this spot! Old school hunting lodge with trophies. You can imagine the stories told here as it's the same for decades which, to me, gives Red Wing it's charm. The food was out of this world, the orange cake (my birthday woo!) was sooooo delicious. Our server Kimberly was so cool. Even the animals out back were fun! If you like nouveau, corporate chain restaurants, this isn't the place for you. If you love real real, real people in a friendly environment then you will feel right at home. We can't wait to come back. See you at Red Wing! read more

I'd heard about this place for years, finally had an opportunity to go. Walking in I felt like it had been years since anyone did any updating - and my heart sank. BUT - the food was good. It was very good. Not complicated - a prime rib sandwich with onion rings and a fish sandwich with chips. But cooked perfectly and as ordered. And sadly, that isn't common. Plus prime rib was tender and well blackened. Also no longer common. End result - a good meal, well priced - as it has been for years. Reputation - well deserved. read more

This place sure is road kill diner! What a pleasant experience it was. Not only can you meet your dinner out back of the restaurant lol just kidding! I'm not sure why these animals live in The pasture out back but they sure are cute and friendly. ( all well taken care of of course) Never had quail before and it was delicious intriguing flavor. Nothing like chicken. Pork chops were well seasoned and baked to juicy perfection! I'm really impressed with this place, the decor makes the restaurant feel like a hunting lodge which is cool to me! I'd definitely like to try there breakfast. Totally recommend this place to anyone who loves meat! read more

Two couples stopped here on a Thursday night which is supposedly burger night, and they also had 5 choices for early bird night , which included salad, buns, potato and entry. Well, there were only two servers who were way overworked, since the place was full and continued to be full of customers while we were there from 7:10 until 8:30 pm. On burger night, you can't get a regular burger, just their special burger. One of us ordered the burger and it came out fine. The other three ordered their specials, pork chop, beef tips and the third ordered liver. The salads were good, pork chop was juicy and cooked well, beef tips were a bit tough, but cooked medium rare, . The liver was waaaay over done to the point of being tough and stringy and the gravy was way too dark and tasteless. We may try again, but not too soon. read more
