Visited Red Wing Shoe Store for the first time on a Saturday around 11:50 AM, and honestly, I didn't know what to expect. I've never really thought about owning a pair of Red Wings before... but after stepping into this store? I want a few pairs now! The space itself is impressive.... cool layout, great selection, and it just has that classic, quality vibe. We were helped by Elliott, and he was fantastic. Super knowledgeable, patient, and took the time to answer all our questions without ever rushing us. You can tell he really knows his stuff and cares about helping customers find the right fit. I was here to see the World's Largest Boot which would be a size 638 1/2 D and was created to celebrate the company's 100th birthday. It took the hides of 80 cows and is over 20 feet tall. Forget wearing it - you could put a basketball team inside! As well as the boot, there is a complete show store and the Red Wing Shoes museum that is well worth your time. We only stopped here to see the giant boot and the museum. No shoe shopping for us (actually I never realized how expensive these boots are!) We love quirky attractions like this so we knew we had to detour here from our drive down the Mississippi River on the Wisconsin side. We found parking right out front and stepped inside to be greeted but the giant boot. It is wonder! The very small museum upstairs from the boot was interesting and I learned a few things about the history of the company and their products. I'm a 240 pound scientist, so I spend all day on my heavy feet, stomping around the laboratory. I am consequently brutal to my shoes - a cheapo pair of Sketchers can fall apart in two months with the way I burn through them. I have to look professional though, so it's hard to split the difference between utility and appearance. Enter Red Wing. I was advised by a hard-working brother to grab a pair of these and elevate my durability game. I picked up a pair of 2962's, the Blacksmith Yuma round toe style, cork sole. Break in was about five weeks, but man, it's all good after that. Great fit, super thick, obviously high quality leather and stitching. I returned them to the factory for service after three or four years of hard use. They resoled and polished up for $125.00, even threw in a nice tin of mink oil. Mink does darken them a bit with repeated use, but it's OK. These boots are beloved and have saved me money over time. Not too many times you can say something paid for itself, but this time it's a definite. Great shoes! read more

We both got measured by computer graphics. I'm an average foot but not my husband and that is how we found out he was buying wrong sized boots. Love Red Wing shoes and boots. Most of their products are made in the U.S.A. The quality is superb and shoes and boots here last years. They'll cost you though anywhere from $200 - $300+ a pair. Having worn many work boot brands thru two decades, I could say that Red Wings are the best I've had. I also have a pair of Post man shoes which I use for office and casual wear. It's has a great vintage look and made of Chaparral leather. The same leather used for leather seats in Ford Trucks of decades past. So, they're durable and in fact what policemen and US postmen used to wear back in the 1950's. I've had my Postman shoes for about 3.5 years and wear them half the time. So with excessive wear on the soles, I've had them re-soled twice already. Any Red Wing store will take them and ship them out. Re-soling is about $100 and they'll touch up the inside of the shoe if need be also for any loose threads. This review is primarily for customer service. I took my shoes the Pasadena, CA location who mentioned it would take 4 weeks to re-sole since I took them just before the holidays. The Pasadena store shipped them to the Red Wing Store location in Red Wing, MN to make sure they have the factory soles and they'd re-sole them to spec. My gripe is their customer service. 4 weeks goes by and I call the Pasadena office a few times with no call back. When I do get a call, they tell me it's another week or whenever they're done because of the Holidays. One week later I call, leave 3 voicemails and when someone calls back, the same thing, a few more days. 7.5 weeks later.. I finally get my shoes with no apologies. I'd expect better than this. I'm all for Made in the US but I'd expect better customer service by them calling me and giving me updates and providing express shipping for their late service. read more

We stopped here before heading home. Of course, we had to take a selfie photo in front of the big boot. The prices are regular at 1st floor but the basement has outlet prices. Alot of women's sizes for deep discount rack. There are 1st and 2nd quality boots for both men and women shoes with some discount. However, I found a nice polo shirt within my price point. Overall, you have to at least come here to see it. I had some work boots when I was in Iowa for my manufacturing job. Only the Red Wing and Keen work shoes lasted long enough. My boots always came back oiled,new laces & in soles ALWAYS !! This review is for the corporate headquarters/customer service line. If you ever need to place an order for shoes over the phone with Red Wing, please interrupt the customer service representative at the beginning of the conversation and let them know how you want the shoes shipped (overnight, 2-day, ground, etc.). The customer service reps are so quick to follow the same script of questions (Where would you like this shipped? What shoe do you want? How many?) that when you do finally get to tell them you want the delivery service other than ground, they get very grumpy and tell you they have to start the whole order process over again as if it were your fault. It is not just one shoddy rep who does this. All of them do. They are also extremely demanding in their questions and if you stray from their script they get very annoyed. This has happened to me multiple times. What a waste of time. I'd recommend some additional training to these reps. They need to make question number 4 question number 1 if that determines how to proceed. Customer service is limited. It's fine for extremely basic orders but don't try to get fancy with them. I originally came here to look at the museum, not to buy boots. Sure enough, I ended up walking out of there with boots. The places looked to delightful to pass up a good pair of boots. I needed some anyway. They had a good selection of boots, and they all look sturdy enough to put up with anything. It was also interesting looking at all the types of boots they have. The clerk was delightful and pleasant to talk to. He also had a good sense of humor. The museum part has a lot of interesting antiques that are, I think, from Red Wing. They have posters, old pictures, artifacts, old cars, and of course, boots. I talked to another one of the clerks about some of these things, and he seemed to know a lot. I have to say, one of the biggest WTFs of my life was when, in Japan, I was ogling hot Japanese men in a fashion magazine, and they were featuring Red Wing shoes in the photo spread... I was also pretty floored when my Korean housemate went into a near-apoplexy when I told him I lived about 40 miles away from Red Wing. Who knew? Indeed, when I finally stopped into the new shop location, there was a family from Japan who had specifically stopped down in Red Wing just to buy shoes and look at the museum... wtf? Ok. Anyway, the museum is nice and informative, if you feel like swelling with pride over some Minnesota classic stuff. The shop itself has really decent prices on their quality boots and shoes. I will say that the women's pickins are slim, but they're good for what they have. The staff is decently friendly and I enjoy how they've incorporated artifacts from the old factory into the store displays. The other stuff they sell is very typical of the type of peeps that wear the shoes (hunter jackets, workman's socks, etc.) If you have the time to stop in, do. If you have the money to spend on the shoes, go for it. You'll be wearing them for years and they're worth the money for sure. read more

After contacting customer service I was told that the obvious manufacturer defect was normal, and no repair or exchange was available. I have not been to this location, but I recently picked up a pair of RW Beckmans (model 9011) in and feel they deserve a review... Its been about 2 weeks, and I'm still very much in the break in period. I actually got a blister on my heel in this process as I did not heed the interweb's advice to ease into these boots a few hours at a time. This occurred after stomping around the park playing bocce ball for a few hours when I was on day 2. These are some seriously bad boys, made the old-fashioned way out of high-quality materials. I get the feeling that I will never have to buy these again; and having paid retail for them, I hope I never have to. They are goodyear welted and can theoretically be repaired/resoled ad infinitum, while the uppers just keep getting better with age. In fact I was told that they can even be sent back to the factory for repair if desired. I work in IT; I want to look good in the office, and these boots manage that just fine, but when I go "into the field" its all over the 2 ski resorts whose networks I manage. This means snow, mud, rocks, bears, marmots etc. I elected this boot because it can handle all that crap yet look totally pimp after a shine. And they do look totally sick; I have received many complements on them already. They just ooze quality. I dropped 3 bills on these things, and that's a tough pill to swallow, but this product comes with the reassurance that they will last longer than any other piece of footwear I currently own, and get better looking with time. I'm glad I pulled the trigger. **EDIT** 6 months in and the boots are still amazing, I can go dig ditches in the rocks and mud, yet these bad boys still clean up and are out-on-the-town ready. I cringed when I heard that the Red Wing Shoe Company (or as it is known locally--"the Shoe") was going to construct THE WORLD'S LARGEST BOOT in order to celebrate the opening of their new store in downtown Red Wing. It just seemed so "world's largest ball of twine" or "20 Foot Long Gators!" level of goofy PR to me. I went to the new store on main street today. Really beautiful place and well stocked. They have done a good job with it, and as for the giant boot, it's there, but it's not front and center. I've worn "Red Wings" since I was ten or eleven years old and have known people that have made boots and shoes on the floor of the factory for my entire life. They make a lot more styles now, than they did when I bought my first pair (back then you could buy right out of the warehouse). There was a time in life that a job on the factory floor at Red Wing Shoe was a good position. I know several people who have finished high school on a Friday, started working on the floor on Monday and they work there for their entire lives. In some cases generations of people have done this, which is amazing and a little sad, frankly. But they do come to work every day so ... Having owed so many pairs of Red Wings, my only suggestion is to buy a boot or shoe from them that is made with as much leather as possible. I'm not a big fan of the new leather and mesh designs mostly because in my experience they do not hold up very well. My trip to the store today was to exchange a gift that I received for Christmas.
