This store started like thirty years ago, trying to bring mountain culture to Iowa. I'd say…read morethey've succeeded and are definitely the go-to for any outdoor retail needs in the area. They've got the big brands like: Patagonia, Marmot, North Face, Columbia, etc. When it comes to apparel that will withstand a trip to the Alps (or who are we kidding, a January in Iowa City :D) they've got you covered! Five floors of retail ranging from -- apparel, footwear and equipment. Items for boating, fishing, cycling, skiing, running, golfing, hunting, climbing-- almost anything you could do outdoors, they have something for. For as much as they have in the store, you'd expect it to the be cluttered. But it is very easy to get around and find what you're looking for. They did a great job organizing items and utilizing each floor of space. (*There are a lot of stairs! You've been warned.*) I can't say I frequent here often, but when I do-- I leave with what I came for. Pricing is fair but I honestly go straight to the sale rack when I'm here. (I've always been a fan of the sidewalk sales during the summer. Always finding a new pair of shoes at a great price!) Staff is VERY knowledgeable and welcoming. The location is stellar, with the ramp right across the street.

Active Endeavors can definitely be a pricey since they carry all of the high quality name brands…read moreyou seek when you're gearing up for an outdoorsy trip, but their sales staff is excellent, and if you plan accordingly (aka try to buy things off season) you can find some absolutely wonderful deals. For example - last winter I spilled battery acid all over my NorthFace winter jacket - the kind that goes down to your ankles. BUT it happened just late enough in the winter that Active Endeavors was gearing up for one of their annual sales, and guess what? I got a replacement jacket for nearly 50 percent off. Huzzah! It was a win for me because I got a new coat, and I had the opportunity to support a local business, which I love doing. Active Endeavors also has a killer shoe selection - I'm not sure if people know this, but it's worth checking out!

My kids grow like weeds. They always seem to need new stuff. And I'm thrifty, so I shop at…read moreKohl's. Because I can get quality, name brand, trendy stuff on a budget. Honestly, with so many coupons available -- I make a point to not buy things unless they're 75% off or more. Which may seem crazy-coupon-lady-esque, but it's very doable. You may wonder how I shop so cheap, well Kohl's clearance is my bread and butter. Savings start at 60% and go up from there. But best yet, you can use additional coupons (like 30%) for more money saved! $20 earrings, were $2 on clearance-- bought for a whopping $1.40. I avoid buying shoes or electronics at Kohls. Coupons are typically harder to use on brands like Nike or Adidas. With that being said, my kids rock Converses with the best of them... they have amazing deals on this brand even if they're not eligible for other promotions. 5 Reasons Kohls is Rad 1. Get cash back up to 12 months after purchase and in-store credit beyond that. 2. I always lose receipts. If you use a credit card to make your purchase, your shopping history is stored in the computer for a full year. Full-purchase price back, no matter the card. 3. The Kohl's credit card is instant savings. Exclusive coupon codes are sent often to cardholders-- again-- these can be used with other coupons. 12 times a year this coupons are sent. 4. You can use up to four promo codes at a time. FOUR. One sitewide+two department specific+Kohl's Cash. Or, one sitewide+three Kohl's Cash. You can't use more than four codes total. 5. Forgot to use a coupon on your last Kohls.com purchase? Just email customer service with your order number and promo code. You can be credited in the form of the original payment. I've always had good customer service online. Not as ideal interactions have been had in the store. Parking is a non-issue. This particular location is easy to navigate but often disorganized. It typically has some cool Iowa Hawkeye stuff and literally all the essentials my growing family needs.

Kohls hired a company called the retail equation. This company has convinced Kohls to deny returns…read morethat FOLLOW THEIR POLICY. I personally have never returned anything without a receipt and on time. Suddenly they said I couldn't return a DEFECTIVE purse, ordered online, with receipt. I DID NOT get a verbal warning. In the past couple of years I shopped for my elderly grandmother, my two kids, myself, my husband so maybe use some critical thinking skills when you look at a list of returns......maybe they are for multiple people in a family. I admit, I did things like purchase 10 pairs of shoes so my 95 year old grandma could find a pair that were comfortable. I did the same for clothes. I told the cashiers exactly what I was doing. I also admit I returned 9 pairs of shoes and multiple items of clothing and explained to the cashier why. My grandma can't go to the store like so many others that are home bound, so congratulations you have made it harder for the elderly to get things they need from your company!! Shameful! I also did the same for my mom who had Alzheimers. Some of my returns were because I received dirty and /or defective stuff from orders online. Lack of packaging is why for most. Delicate items like bras came snagged and dirty thrown in a box. I received sizes I did not order. Do you expect me to keep wrong sizes? I did order some things on accident because the items were in my cart. My bad! I pointed all of this out when I returned the items. How exactly are we to shop online without having returns when the store doesn't have it to try on or to look at colors and styles? I am now stuck with a DEFECTIVE purse. How is this even a business tactic? Who would think it is a good idea to not allow valid returns abiding by the company policy? Customers won't go back concerned it will happen because no guidelines are provided. Kohls refuses to tell customers how many VALID returns are allowed which is extremely unethical. I did the dispute process which is a joke. Kohls confirmed I had too many returns. How many is too many.....no one will ever know. Are you forcing customers to keep merchandise to increase revenue? That is sure what it seems like because I am not a criminal or committing fraud.

I would describe Revival as a Vintage Boutique that buys and resells thrifted and new items + home goods (candles, room sprays, incense) It's been about five years since my return and oh how things have changed! I'll start with the positive first: they now sell sex toys and lube (Maude brand) which is super cool. The candles they sell are so unique and well crafted. What a creative idea to use old fish tins for the base! The not so good: in summary everything's extremely overpriced. Revival use to be more of a thrift store (and yes they still buy and resell thrifted items) but now a large selection of their items are new and well over $100. Mind you this is not a luxury store. Now, I will say Revival has always carried new items and more "high quality pieces" however, today I saw a "preloved" coach bag for $300+ which was insane to me. The selection of clothing is more neutral and basic tones like cream, nude, brown and white. I miss the color and variety that use to be! Today I purchased some groovy sunglasses, vintage Levi Jeans, and some other new goodies. I still love this place and will check it out again the next time I'm in town!
