I suggest showing up before 7:40 am as it will be hard to find a parking spot otherwise. The format is usually housekeeping items for a couple minutes, then Derek Pyne - who is the membership guru and runs the breakfasts - has everyone start doing introductions. The introductions are very quick - 20 seconds or so and the room is covered within the first half hour. The second part of the breakfast is a guest speaker that will speak for about 20 minutes. The speakers range from local and provincial politicians to developers, larger industry reps and small business owners. The meal part of the breakfast is usually boiled eggs, yoghurt, fruit, almonds and pastries etc. Overall, they are a friendly group that will welcome newcomers (and even give them a round of applause).

Weekly networking events that are free, so many opportunities to give back and it's great that there is an organization that supports and advocates for business in Sherwood Park and Alberta. They have spaces that are quite reasonable to rent if you want to hold an event. The only down fall is you have to bring in your own AV equipment. Also their "free" wifi is for Shaw customers only. The Chamber creates a fabulous community like atmosphere. I'm proud to be a member of this organization.

LOVED loved LOVED - Did I mention LOVED?!? this park!…read more We ventured out to this community league park containing two playgrounds, fields, outdoor ice rink, and spray park for the day last week for a Mommy kiddo group play date. Little community league spray parks like this are a real gem! With playground equipment designed for toddlers and bigger kids AND a section of swings, this community league has got it all. There is a green shack here in the summer but I think the hours were 230-6PM Monday through Friday so we just missed them opening. Back behind the grassy knoll were great hills that just begged for bike riding fun or sledding in the winter! The park is fenced off with a couple entrances/exits but I REALLY appreciate limtied entries and exits when watching multiple kiddos 5 & under at a park! The water portion was small in comparison to the spray and splash parks listed on the city of Edmonton website but this is still a total gem! There was more than enough water features to keep the approximately 30 kids in the water entertained and the sandy toddler area also had toddler height sand/water tables for more fun play! There were washrooms available for our use and the Ottewell Community League playschool was also on site today. Man... If I lilved here, I would most DEFINITELY be having my kiddo's next birthday party here! There is a fairly large covered area with multiple picnic tables and quite a few shady spots and benches around the park. This particular visit was rather humorous because I had to rescue some screaming kidlets from squishing and stepping on poo that some kid left on the ground - YUCK! Thankfully, the washrooms came in handy so I could grab some paper towels and clean it up best I could for the kidlets! If you have toddler or little kids, then this park is worth the drive from anywhere around Edmonton! Or if you are shopping for a place to move and raise kids and want to be near Capillano, this may be just the neighbourhood for you!

People come from all other neighbourhoods to enjoy the park and spray park. There is a great Green Shack program for the older kids through out the summer. And through the winter the full size skating rink is amazing with a full size locker room for changing comfortably. It's always clean and there are great things for the kids to play with young and old. It's also a busy little Hall for events and bookings. With seating capacity up to 120, there is a electric fire place and a projector with a screen for all this slide shows. The best thing about the hall is the huge chef's kitchen. Tons of room with all the bells and whistles for catering your own events. It also has a nice bar with a huge fridge and serving area for that professional touch. Did I mention the commercial Ice Maker? Yeah one of those too! The rental rates are fantastic and even better if you a community league member!

When you go inside the building, you will the interesting reflection cast by sunlight. Another feature that I love about this City Hall is the outdoor pool located in front of the building. During summer months, you can swim, wade, or simply dip your toes in the pool. During winter months, put your skates on as the pool freezes and turns into a skating rink. There is a customer service desk right by the entrance. The staff is friendly and are always ready to assist both locals and tourists with any inquiries. There are multiple clean restrooms inside that the public can use. There is also free wifi provided with no required password. There are also several couches, tables and chairs to peruse while charging your cellphones in electrical outlets provided. Downtown parking is an issue which is expected in any city so taking public transportation is highly recommended. The train station and bus stops are right next to City Hall.

It's also a place for business as I have been involved in hosting and attending events in one of the rooms and foyer or having a business breakfast at Kids in the Hall. Outside the building the fountain and pool is large for kids to enjoy on a hot summer day. Even adults can roll up their pants and enjoy a walk through. There is a change room with washrooms close by. The clock tower rings bells and on special occasions, it can play various tunes. Inside, there's city information for tourists, newcomers, and locals. I love the community walking maps! There's a job board and also staff on hand to answer questions. Great for events including the Farmers' Market when it moves indoors for the fall and winter. Bonus is the washrooms are always clean too!

Regardless of the unknown this space is awesome. Good bathrooms, an upstairs with balcony look downs, cool arched windows, and really beautiful thin wood floors. It was awesome, outdoor zumba with loud music and dancing! It was a fundraiser for the community league which is a great idea from the instructors. A few years ago before the hall was renovated, they had a craft day. What a great idea, I hope they do this again! We could scrapbook, or make cards for a day and they also provided dinner and snacks. Great event and great to meet people from the neighbourhood. I hope they consider doing this again. Now the hall is renovated and it's nice! The floor is nice, kitchen area big, and clean washrooms. It gets a little warm for zumba when we're all hot and sweaty but there's a door that can get the air flowing. Sometimes they have craft type shows there and the space isn't huge but it's cool to check out some vendors. The annual community league day is coming up with family activities and fireworks too! Great to have community leagues in the neighbourhood to offer great programming just outside the back door!

Let's not forget there's actually a cafe inside the library! Who wouldn't enjoy curling up with a good book and a latte here? :) The strathcona library also has a bunch of programs available ranging from kids to adults, a decent size rack of books & movies on sale outside the main doors in the lobby, and lovely staff. Bonus: it's inside the Community Centre, which hosts a variety of different events throughout the year, such as farmers markets during the evening of a particular weekday during the spring & summer (Wednesday's I think?). Also! New Years in the Park is great! Free hot chocolate and they still lit fireworks this past New Year's Day (the -freezing day)

This lovely library opened in November of 2010 and I have been a regular ever since. There is something for everyone here. We have big tall windows to let lots of natural light pour in and cozy nooks to curl up in. There are plenty of plug ins for laptops and chargers as well as lots of comfy seating. There is an area with desks where you can plug in your laptop or there is another section that has computers you can use. There is free Wifi - that doesn't require a library card or anything else convoluted to use. The library is two stories and there is a coffee shop on the first floor, with the adult study area upstairs. The first floor houses the children's section with a great magical kingdom area. Speaking of kids (and adults who want to be kids) you can also check out a Wii and play it in one of the alcoves. Of course, the library also has the usual vast selection of hard cover, soft cover and e-books. DVDs, CDs etc. to check out. There are automated check out and return machines but if you have to go to the information desk, they are pleasant and helpful. I honestly can't think of one way they could improve on this place!

The skating rinks are well maintained by the staff at the community league who regularly clean the snow off the ice. There is an indoor boot room where you can put your skates on, store your boots there, and skate directly to the rink from there. They also have 2 washrooms inside this boot room which can come in handy if you're there for an extended period of time. In addition to all that, there is also a large tobogganing hill beside this community league so you can play, skate, toboggan, all in one place! Lots of lighting around too so feels very safe.
