First off I'd like to say that I understand people are trying to make a living and I don't like leaving negative reviews but with that being said i want others to be aware before booking with Red Top Cabins. This was the worst experience ever. The cabin was dirty and I mean dusty, it stank, the linens all had a musty moldy dingy odor. The refrigerator was dorm size, the shower was so small that my 6'9 boyfriend could barely move around, couldn't bend over to get under the shower head because there wasn't any room. The AC window unit froze on the first night, we tried to fill in the gap under the door to keep the cool air in and the critters out. There were sticky bait mouse traps under all the furniture, the bed was hard as a board, topper was hard and saggy, the futon we didn't use because I was afraid to fold it out. We had to wear shoes the whole time while in the house because our feet were black if we didn't. We didn't get in the hot tub because the owner poured bleach in it right after we got there and as dirty as everything was I couldn't bring myself to get in it. We ended up leaving early. read more

If you are needing a getaway that's relaxing and quiet in nature, this is a great place to go. It's cozy and tucked back in a secluded little spot from the road. Deer visited daily, morning and night. It's close to fishing lakes, Chickasaw State Park, Turner Falls and Fat Bully's bar and grill, really great burgers and food. Stayed in Cabin 1, which is the largest & was able to accommodate our family of five. Owner is friendly. Overall, we had a good experience, but cabin 1 needs some updating and deep cleaning in cabinets. The owner was upfront about the status of the hot tub (it's the oldest hot tub on their property). It looks like it is in bad shape (& the owner said the seats might be rough/scratchy on our bottoms), but the heater & bubbles worked great. The biggest point of frustration was how unclean the kitchen cabinets & bathroom cabinets were. I thankfully brought my own cookware, but it was even hard for me to stomach using coffee pot. We washed anything we used like coffee cups before using to be safe. The cabin decor is appropriately rustic, but the futons are way past their prime...you cannot sit comfortably for more than a few minutes. It really needs to be updated. Our favorite feature was the fire pit in the back, but it had a large hair wig in it from a previous guest that started to smoke & smell like plastic fumes. VERY RELAXING WITH A GOOD SPIRITUAL ENERGY! A place to release all your stress from the daily grind and get centered with God. The owner was very kind and helpful. He provided a few things that I had forgot. He prevented an extra trip to town. He also did not rush us out and allowed us to check out late the day we left. There was also access to the river which had many big largemouth bass, catfish, pan fish, and small mouth bass. I caught fish in no time at all. I baked the bass in the oven and it fed my girlfriend and I for dinner. I will definitely be going back and recommend that you not miss out on this gem in the woods! read more

It is rustic and secluded. The cabins are clean and nice. But it is camping so don't expect a fancy cabin. Was told there was good fishing but didn't bring any equipment. But if you go will definitely need to bring long pants and boots it is not a clear path. read more

Four of my kids and I are on the way back from a weekend spent at Red Top Cabins. We stayed in Cabin 1 and there was just enough room for the 5 of us. I got the bed to myself (which is raised a way off the ground), my 6 year old and 11 year old stayed in the bunks that are also in the bedroom. My 3 and 4 year olds stayed in sleeping bags on the couches. I think they fold out into beds but we didn't use them that way. The living room/dining room/kitchen is all one big room with a beautiful high ceiling and the back wall overlooking the porch is all windows. It is beautiful. There are a couple cabins (I think 5, total) in the area that share a circle drive. My kids were able to run around and play safely. The cabins are right off a small highway but are set far back enough from the road enough that no one would need to drive up close to the cabins if they were just turning around. I have Verizon for my iPhone and could not get a signal at the cabins. The owner said he had wifi but the network never came up on my phone. I thought that was nice, though. Taking a break from the digital world helped us truly relax while on vacation. I only mention the lack of service so that you can plan your other excursions using yelp, etc before you arrive. We didn't plan ahead so our first night we ate a very expensive, bland and kind of dirty Mexican dinner at the recommendation of a Walmart cashier in Sulphur. While in town the next day, I looked for a restaurant for dinner and found a WONDERFUL BBQ restaurant where all 5 of us ate for half the price of the Mexican restaurant. And we had leftovers! (Yay, Smokin' Joe's.) The kids and I hiked all day at Turner Falls on Saturday and it was so nice to come back to the cabin and the HOT TUB! It seats 4 so we took turns. It has a beautiful view of the night sky. We got to watch the moon rise while the hot tub relaxed our tired feet and legs. The bathroom has a shower/tub combo. We tried to all shower right in a row and ran out of hot water so you'll want to take turns. You may also want to bring a power strip because we couldn't all charge our devices simultaneously. (The kids were using old iPhones and iPods to take vacation pictures.) There's a fridge and microwave and a coffee maker. Plenty of dishes to cook with but no dishwasher, so we just had cereal and snacks while we were there. There's a TV with cable or satellite-I'm not sure because we have neither-but the kids were happy at night to have so many shows to choose from. The kids all said their beds were comfortable. Mine was too. The pillows and blankets were clean and comfy. The towels smelled really fresh. Definitely bring your own beach towels for coming in from the hot tub in the cold winter night!! There's a table outside on the back porch as well which is perfect for sipping coffee in the morning sunshine. I can't emphasize enough how beautiful the cabin and scenery are. My kids got a chance to run around and play outside without all the worries of being back home in the city. While we liked all of these things very well, absolutely the best part of staying at Red Top Cabins is the owner and his wife. They were so welcoming to the kids and me (most people when they see four kids run and hide!). Charlie took them for a ride on his golf cart, they didn't mind the kids chasing the cats that live under their porch and they even surprised them with some balloons and a croquet set. Charlie made sure we had a map so we wouldn't get lost and didn't mind my giving my mother his phone number so she had a way to contact me in case of an emergency. We thought the fridge had stopped working (one of the kids must've just turned it to low) and Charlie immediately came down to help and was very friendly and helpful. He even took our picture on the back porch of the cabin, without him we wouldn't have had a single picture of all of us together on our vacation. I'm a single mom of 5 and can't afford to take my kids on vacation as often as I'd like, but this was a very reasonable trip for us and everyone loved it. I cannot recommend it highly enough. We will definitely be back to stay again!! We loved our visit! read more

Loved the peace and quiet. Watching the stars in the sky from the hot tub was awesome. The sounds of the coyotes and frogs were our nighttime music. Bed was very comfortable. We stayed in #4 which has a kitchen so we were able to cook breakfast each morning. Hosts were friendly and although they live on site, it was as if they weren't there. Wifi was a nice touch because no service otherwise. Although it was kind of nice to unplug for a couple days. It's all part of the charm and seclusion. Best part of getting away from the DFW area, it's only a 2-hour drive to get to the middle of nowhere! We were so relaxed after our stay. It would've been nice to stay longer. read more

Went for a romantic weekend, was disappointed in the cabins. Cute on the outside but the inside was garage sale furnished. Dub the bed the "murder bed" because it had a nasty stain on the corner. The futon looked like it had came from a teenagers room, had lots of old stickers on the side. The chair was 70' s gold and they tried to cover up the worn out side with a towel. I found this gem by complete accident. Me and a bunch of my girlfriends headed up from Dallas and had the most peaceful weekend. Between lounging and enjoying the scenic view and making smores on the campfire.. We had the best time. The following morning as we ate breakfast we had a huge family of deer come across the site. The owners were great about getting us in and settled late at night. We had adults, teenagers, & even our little dog with us. Lots of room for everyone and all their stuff to be tossed around without feeling cramped one bit. Had everything we needed & a quick trip to the store had us more than set. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even late snacks & drinks with our late night/early morning star gazing....plenty of space between cabins to listen to music & enjoy the hot tub without having to worry about bothering a neighbor. We'll definitely be going back every chance we get! Awesome wildlife....the deer almost walk right up to you. Very disappointed! We stayed in cabin 2. 1) There is no cell phone service at all. My mom is sick and i had to give the cabin office # to my moms nurse in case of emergency. This made me worry the whole time during our stay. 2) The a/c unit in the bedroom upstairs doesn't work. The kids offered to sleep up there and my boyfriend and I slept on a hard futon mattress with one side that drops down. So we had to sleep crooked to keep from falling off. 3) They need to spend more time cleaning the whole cabin. Dirty! 4) The back door gets stuck, which makes it very hard to open. 5) The stairs leading to bedroom upstairs is very steep, incase you have health issues. 6) The firepit was full of ashes that we had to clean out. 7) If you are going to own a business, please answer the phone with business name and not with just a "hello"! My husband and I just stayed here with our 5 year old son for the weekend and it was beyond amazing! The cabin was very clean and well-taken care of and we had everything we needed for our stay. The view in the morning of the creek is so relaxing and it is absolutely pitch black at night for perfect star gazing. Our son ran and explored and had the BEST time. The cabins were definitely a little haven for all of us and the hot tub was perfect after hiking and playing all day. They are owned by a husband and wife team who are very accommodating and nice. We stayed for three nights over the Fourth of July weekend. We had a BLAST! Don't expect luxury but everything that is necessary was available. We booked two cabins for a large group. Only used one kitchen for all our cooking and that worked out just fine. The bbq grill out back is on the small side but we managed to grill 11 steaks and they all came out wonderful and in record time. No one had a cold steak. The hot tubs were a gathering place for coffee in the morning, very nice touch. The grounds are beautiful! Well cared for and lots of wildlife. There is plenty of room between the cabins so you do we were not disturbed by other cabins, nor they by us. Take a crochet set and bean bag toss because there is lots of room outside for setting up games. We did and had loads of fun. Management is the best. Can't say enough good things about this place!!! read more
