I ate this muffin so fast I am surprised a took a picture of it. What a great bite up until the very end, perfectly paired with their coffees! Red Hot Roasters is still my favorite place to get freshly roasted beans in the city. Louisville has a lot of great coffee shops to choose from, but when it comes time to restock the beans that I grind at home to get me through the average work day I'm going to Red Hot Roasters. I enjoy my once a month or so excuse to walk to the shop on Lexington Avenue and ring the cowbell at the drive through to refill my can of beans. (The cowbell is a fun improvement over trying to hop on the car sensor to ring that bell, as probably one of the few people to walk on over.) Everyone I encounter working the drive through is a delight to chat with as their break between cars in a hurry. The older reviews here reminded me of the too-shortly-lived Nulu shop, which was a little bit more convenient to me and easy to miss (also that time corresponded with a limited run of bourbon barrel roasted beans and those were great and are also missed by me), but I realize Nulu offers a lot of choices for that sit down coffee shop experience and there's something to the attitude of do one thing really well that your competition can't, frills or not. They don't need to compete on interior vibes, they've got great beans. Red Hot Roasters roasts the best beans. I'm going to keep being the silly person walking up to the drive through so long as that's the case, to get my cans refilled and see what sounds exciting and fun in the specials menu to cool me down or heat me up on the return trip. read more

One of the best places to grab a coffee in Louisville. The flavors of the coffee speak for themselves-- they are roasting coffee with love. My only warning is that it can be very strong and very caffeinated for those sensitive to coffee! The drive up window also functions as a walk-up window. Red hot roasters is a specialty coffee shop and pastry place located near the popular Frankfort ave of a Louisville directly across from the Breslin park. Place had A very whole in the wall vibe to it. It is a decent sized building however they only offer drive thru/walk up windows and has some picnic tables near the street sign. No idea why they don't allow people in as I'm sure they could get 3-4 small tables in if they used the space right. UnFortunately on our visit that includes my family and some family friends it was cold and rainy (come on Mother Nature it is may 29th!). So we ended up eating and drinking in the car. I personally got a red believer hot chocolate and it was fantastic. Very smooth and great taste to it. One of the better hot chocolates I've had. I also got a cinnamon roll. It was solid. Pretty run or the mill. Would of been better served hotter. My wife and oldest daughter got breakfast burrito beget both said it was really good but different. Had shoe string hash brown and jalapeño aioli on it. My oldest also got a honey you can't handle me latte and a chocolate croissant and she loved both. My second oldest got a kids hot chocolate a big Reese cookie. Cookie was massive and tasty. A bit dry but still very good. Overall we had a great visit. I wish they had indoor seating and I wish we had chosen a nicer day to come. The place had one lady doing it all and we had walked up to the drive way with my family of 6 and our other family friends. So we had big orders which took her a bit and unfortunately caused 3-4 other cars in line to drive off. So they may be even more successful with a better setup inside and more workers. read more

I don't know why I don't stop by this coffee spot more. That ends today! It was a gloomy, rainy, cold January day -- something a hot coffee drink and baked good could definitely help with. Red Hot Roasters has a drive-through, which is key during these COVID times. I pulled up, and all of the menus are on display and easy to read. Because it was such a dreary day, I decided to get something particularly cheer-y. I got the dirty Chocolate Chai off the Valentine's menu with espresso. It was the sweet and caffeinated pick-me-up I needed. The star of the order, though, was the cinnamon scone, which has become my go-to at coffee shops. This is my favorite cinnamon scone in Louisville now. It has cinnamon throughout, not just via icing or a little in the dough. It was flaky on top and full of flavor. I drive past Red Hot Roasters on my way to pick up my son from day care. This will be a regular stop. read more

It's been a long while since my last visit to Red Hot Roasters, so long that it's moved! It's drive thru now although they let you walk up to the window as well if you decide to park and sit on the patio. I grabbed a cold brew with light cream. Very nice, hit the spot. My husband got a dirty chai. He wasn't excited by it but didn't ask what it included. The added espresso threw him off. However, he did love the peanut butter bar. Huge! And a lot of peanut butter, which he kept claiming was "protein, right?" They offer the typical pastries and drink options, plus seasonal drinks. Mayan Cafe burritos are also offered. Took a ride out to Red Hot roasters because I was tired of the subpar coffee I was getting from nearby coffee shops in st Matthews, both local and commercial. Walked up to the drive-thru and ordered a couple of what ended up being perfectly balanced lattes. Not too sweet not too overwhelmingly coffee-y. Really rich taste, not that burnt coffee taste that I've been getting from a lot of places lately. One wonderful woman was singlehandedly running the show when I got there. She was polite, she was quick, and overall an awesome experience. You can tell they're a unique, local shop. And I want them to take all of my money. Can't wait to go back and try the burritos for breakfast because they sound delicious. I got an iced Mexican mocha, a Drunken Pumpkin, and a Cinnamon Bun latte - all exceptionally better than any other lattes I've tried around town lately. Will definitely be back. read more

What a great find! Have passed this pass many times and noted how adorable it was. Today the stars aligned when the placed I scheduled my car cleaning was right next door and I was looking for something to do while they worked on my car. This is a really cool spot that I hope more people discover! It's a quiet area of town still but this area is putting up a ton more shops and such. I came in with two others around maybe 10:30/11 ish and the barista was chatting with two ladies who often frequent. That's a good sign that they've got regular customers who patronize. I saw two other ladies with their kids in here sitting inside. I thought it would be more of a hipster vibe but maybe it was the time of day? It's derby week and it was a Thursday morning. Loved the Derby decor though!! Anyway, the barista was nice! So personable and had a great attitude. It's clear she loves what she does! I ordered a drip coffee with almond milk. Good price at a little over $2. Not bad! I'd love to try the other drinks. My sister got a honey you can't handle me latte. It had honey and raspberry. Yummy! I've had something similar at a coffee shop in Lexington and it tastes just the same! Yay! My friend got the Eskimo latte blended which had white chocolate and mint. I could really taste the coffee! It wasn't super sugared up like the ones at Starbucks. Nice work, Red Roasters! Loved the space. It's not large but I like the setup. A few small tables here and there and some seats outside. Having travelled through the drive-thru location several times, I was so excited to experience the real, brick-and-mortar deal. Red Hot Roasters' newest home is an adorable, brightly-colored building just next to High-Five Donuts (genius move). The coffee is quality - locally roasted and organic. As an added bonus, the owner happened to be working that day, and offered to make our coffee the "best way ever," with just the right amounts of sugar and cream. I've only been to Red Hot Roasters once....but they have my new favorite latte in the city! That cinnamon roll latte....it is heaven. They recently relocated from connected to the gas station at Lexington and Payne to....directly across the street at Lexington and Payne! The fella and I were in the final two miles of our loooong weekend walk and were in dire want of some form of sustenance, either in food or beverage form. We weren't sure if they were open yet, but the blinking light up "Open" sign was on! We tried to go in the door next to the open sign....but SURPRISE....they are drive-thru only. At least for the time being. But be aware! They are in a building that is big enough and has a parking lot as well as a parking-lot-facing door. But they are not an inside-order, sit down and enjoy kind of place. (Yet?) Hopefully, as the apartment complex next door nears completion and begins filling up, they will develop the "shop" part of being a coffee shop. But if you are indeed on foot in the area, you CAN walk up to the drive-thru window. The menu is big enough that everyone should be able to find something tasty to drink, but not so big that it is overwhelming. I can't wait to see how they grow as time goes on! read more

There's a lot to like here. The coffee itself is very good (I've only tried the espresso drinks, but hear the drip and cold brew are also solid), the space is clean and bright, prices are reasonable, staff is friendly, and parking seems to be easy. On the downside, hours are relatively short, there isn't much indoor seating, and much of the seating is awkwardly matched to the tables/bar (i.e., the seats aren't tall enough for comfortable computer work or writing). I do like this addition to the coffee shop scene, but given the amount of competition in the area, I'm unsure how much it will figure into my rotation. read more

I was able to chat about what the future holds for this new Nulu staple. There will be a private meeting room space upstairs and outside courtyard and deck seating. I found this place on a business trip looking for a quick stop before work and I was not disappointed! The drive through was fast and efficient. I Ordered the campfire or s'mores latte (don't remember the exact name) but it was delicious. They have a good amount of milk options and the espresso is also really well made! So excited for Red Hot Roasters as they open their first sit-down cafe! The outside is inviting and quirky with the blue/orange exterior, and the inside finds an intimate seating area where you can bring your laptops to work, or just have a conversation. The menu is extensive and the coffee is amazing. I got a KY Soda- which is a twist on an Italian Cream Soda, except with Ale-8. It was delicious. I really enjoyed how they have utilized every space for seating. There is also a lovely porch area, and a soon to be upstairs that you can reserve for meetings. We were recently in the area on a Saturday morning and wanted to grab a quick coffee before hitting the road. Red Hot Roasters was right there, so we decided to drive-thru. B opted for a large coffee with cream and sugar, while I chose a Mexican Mocha. B thought his coffee was a bit sweet for his taste, so next time he said he'll order something different. So, on my way to work, I always pass by this place and I know it's good (from peeps here in Louisville), yet, I never stopped. Thankfully, that all changed and now, I am obsessed! They have just moved their location to across the street, where there was a car dealership. The old location is closed, but the new one is open! Again, it has a drive thru, but a bit better of a set up than it being in the gas station. After all, that was what this place was known for! Good coffee and in the back of a gas station. Seriously though, this coffee is AMAZING. I have only kept to drinking hot vanilla lattes, but I am just obsessed! It tastes so good, and it just tastes fresh! Strange to say, but it is true! I am not sure what their policy is now, but if you want to use a credit card, your order has to be more than $4, other than that, it's cash only. Thankfully, my latte is $4.25 (medium size), so, I have no problem there! Service here is great! Always friendly, and the coffee comes out quick! Be warned though, this place can be backed up! It is still a little stretch for the drive thru, and you might need to wait a while before your turn comes. I have had where there was maybe 4 cars in front of me, but it was only about a 8-10 minute wait. So, still quick, but just make sure you budget your time if you are running late to work! (Not from personal experience or anything ;D) Overall, I love this coffee joint! It's so unique, and the coffee is just so good! I have been taking acting classes down the street from Red Hot Roasters for two years and had yet to stop at Red Hot Roasters before class but finally stopped last weekend and it did not disappoint. I don't really have a "regular" coffee order, I like to try whatever specials or seasonal options a shop has, so I tried a dirty orange chai. It was so unique but very good, and I will definitely be back to get another one before they switch up the menu for fall. I also needed breakfast, so I got a french toast muffin, and I really thought it was better than most pastries and muffins at your average coffee shop. And there's a drive-thru so Red Hot Roasters really has everything I need! It would be nice if there was some seating in the shade but I think different shops serve different purposes, and this one is for a quick stop on your way to or from the Highlands or Downtown. If I could select 6 stars, I would. Red Hot not only has the nicest baristas in town, they also make the best damn coconut latte you'll ever have. (Pro tip: get an iced coconut latte with coconut milk and enjoy beachy vibes that are good until the last drop.) I'd have one every day if my wallet could afford it. Emily is an absolute treasure and remembers my order and my coworker's order every time. I've sampled most of their pastries at this point and the bacon cheddar scone is to die for, but you can't go wrong with one of their homemade sandwich cookies either. I wasn't able to make it to either of my regular spots today so I decided to give it a try. I went with the iced coffee with a splash of cream. Most places overdo it when I say a splash so I was pleasantly surprised to get just the right amount of cream. The coffee was strong and good. I also liked that they use compostable cups. The corner lot is easy to access. The menu is clear and contains important descriptions. The local establishment offers classical espresso drinks plus their unique red hot spin. Barista spoke clearly through her properly worn mask. She clarified our orders. I adjusted a 12 ounce latte to about 10 ounce so I could have a higher coffee ratio. My husband ordered hot chocolate. We both asked for oat milk. Barista did not add a surcharge for nondairy milk which I didn't realize til later. I don't know if this is standard protocol for Red Hot Roasters but it is nice. I also ordered their organic whole decaf beans in an 11 ounce bag. Their beans also come in cans. The drinks were a very good hot temperature! The coffee flavor was smooth and definitely present. The barista was friendly. She let us know when something was taking a bit longer than expected. Excellent drip coffee, freshly roasted coffee beans you can take home and they also carry their own bottled cold brew brand which is excellent. I stop in a few times a week for coffee for my co-workers and I and if you bring in your coffee bean container they will re-fill it for you for a reduced rate!
