Almond milk latte (16 ounce size)
Lisal F.

Yes to Ntaba! Drinks - delicious. Menu - appropriately varied (something for everyone). Plant based milk options - almond, oat, soy. Food - both sweet and savory choices, including very flaky non-meat meat pies. Ambience - pleasant, welcoming, definitely invites one to sit and linger to enjoy coffee/snacks before heading back to reality. There is also a small international grocery section in the back with a variety of items that might be difficult to obtain at a regular grocery store. One limitation: they do charge extra for plant based milk; I understand there is a cost differential, however I am of the opinion people who either must or choose to avoid animal products should be able to enjoy their coffee for the same price as dairy lovers.

Sausage roll with side of chutney and 16oz white chocolate caramel mocha latte.

I WILL BE BACK! The owner makes me want to come back. After being there a couple of hours she still remembered my name when I left! I was impressed when she called me by name when I left the establishment. That's good customer service. The bonus was the coffee and the sausage roll, with a side of chutney, was so good. I've never tasted such smooth coffee in all of my coffee days. I was struggling with what to order but she gave great assistance, along with my friend, and I had the white chocolate caramel mocha latte, I think . It was so good! I should have got the 20oz. Well that just means I will be returning soon. Plus, the atmosphere was so cozy and conducive to working, with the various seating arrangements and the wifi. My only wish is that there was one closer to me.

This cool coffee shop has been on my list to try for a few months! I've driven by it on my way to Frankfort Ave. They've got their own parking lot and the space inside is a lot larger than I would've thought. Their menu has all the regular stuff you expect. You can create your own drinks since they sell everything as a base (eg. plain latte, in which you can add flavors). I ordered the 12oz latte with vanilla and oat milk. The espresso tastes light. It reminded me of another African-owned coffee shop in Columbus, which has similar flavors. It was good! My friend tried 5 roses as a tea latte with oat milk. The barista told us it's a lighter version of English breakfast. She enjoyed it and also liked my latte. It feels pretty calm in there. Lots of natural light comes in through the windows. My friend and I enjoyed sitting on the comfy chairs. The owner came out and talked to us, which was cool. It made the experience even more personal to see that he was there. It's cool that he is South African! You can get your drink in a mug which is awesome. They've got one gender neutral bathroom that has a changing table. I'd come back again. They've got plenty of plugs around.

Treats from A Taste of Africa

This coffee house left me with so much joy ... and delicious coffee! Ntaba Coffee Haus features fair-trade coffee and tea from Africa as well as pastries and meat pies, a South African dish. This coffee shop on Brownsboro Road also houses A Taste of Africa, which sells food from Africa, and Ntaba African Safaris, which helps travelers plan trips to Africa. There is so much love for Africa in this building. For my first visit, I started with coffee, which definitely hit the spot. And I bought a Bubbly chocolate bar, Turkish delight and Jelly Tots candies from A Taste of Africa to share with my friend. Come to find out, "aerated chocolate" is a South African delicacy, and A Taste of Africa has several bars to choose from. And looking at the packaging, we were expecting a crunchy, malted filling, but this chocolate was creaming, indulgent. I also got a chai tea latte from the coffeeshop. The barista warned me that this chai is different than others in that it's not quite as sweet. I'm glad she gave me a heads up, and I actually preferred this type of chai. It was warm, soothing and just sweet enough. I also got to meet the owner, Robin. After talking to him for just a few minutes, it's easy to see how much passion he has for his businesses and Africa. And if you meet him, be sure to ask him how he got to Kentucky -- the man has lived several lives! It was also nice to learn how Ntaba gives back to the community here and in Africa. For example, Ntaba takes part in the ZABRA: a free bra initiative. Guests are encouraged to donate new and slightly used bras, which are then given to women who need them in Africa. The owner takes them and delivers them to orphanages and organizations himself. I'm excited to go back to Ntaba and try the meat pies as well as some of the delicious tea. Ntaba brings something new to the coffee shop scene in Louisville, and I applaud it for that.

Ntaba Coffee Haus is the best! They offer organic, fair trade, fresh roasted coffee, sourced from Africa. They roast the coffee in house, so it's always brewed to perfection. You can enjoy a fresh cup of coffee there, or you can purchase bags of coffee and tea to enjoy at home. They also have some really tasty food options on the menu, including baked goods and meat and vegetable pies. The Chicken Chorizo Pie is awesome! They support local artists by having pieces on display, and for sale, throughout the shop. They also sell handmade African mugs, as well as local honey from BEG's Honey, a small family-owned bee farm in South Louisville. Plus, they have an amazing "Taste of Africa" shop in the back of the space that's full of South African products. I love exploring everything there, and I have tried some of the candies and it was really cool to experience some items we can't get locally. If you're looking for a great coffee shop, a spot to get some work done, or a place to meet up with friends or have a work meeting, Ntaba Coffee Haus is a great spot!

Definitely one of my favorite coffee shops in town! We found it by accident and I'm so glad we did. My go-to coffee is the White Chocolate Latte, which surprisingly, at Ntaba, I can have without sugar (and I add sugar to everything haha)! I love that there is a little market in the back of the store with different African goodies; I always end up buying more things than I should. I think its really neat that the small paintings on the wall are available for purchase. If you are interested in going on an actual African Safari, there is also a travel office in the shop to help you plan it!

Have you ever stepped into a place and thought, "Yes, this is my kind of place"? I came for the…read morecoffee, but I stayed for the chicken's feet that would grant me protection and luck for only $5, the multiple sage bundles to cleanse my chakras, and the incense sticks that might remove a hex or give me divine powers once burned. Witches Brew is a place to find all sorts of magical things, but it is also just a divine (in every sense of the word) place to sit and have a hot beverage and a pastry. It's worth a visit to this coffee shop just to see the decor. It's purple everywhere, with mood lighting, mirrors, gothic tchotchkes, creepy dolls, skulls and other fun and slightly ominous curio. There are cool things in every corner, and even though I had intended on getting my coffee to go, I decided to sit for a while because coffee sometimes just tastes better when you're surrounded by cobwebs and broomsticks. I got an Americano, which is usually my go-to if I don't know how strong the house drip will be. The Americano was nice and smooth. I didn't have to wait long at all for my coffee. I visited on a weekday during the morning, and there were two people ahead of me, but the line went fast and my coffee came out quickly.

I recently stopped by Witches Brew Coffee, and it was definitely a unique experience. The whole…read moreplace is themed around witches, and you can tell they have really committed to it. The walls and every corner are filled with witch-related artwork, decorations, and even merchandise. It's fun to look around because there's something interesting everywhere you turn. The coffee itself was pretty standard, nothing particularly standout, but the atmosphere is really what makes this place special. If you enjoy spooky or Halloween-style vibes, you'll probably love it here. They also offer free Wi-Fi, so it could be a good spot for studying or getting some work done. Personally, I found the ambiance a bit too spooky for focusing, especially at night. I am just not a big fan of that kind of setting (haha). Overall, it was a good experience and definitely memorable in its own way. I can see why people would really enjoy it, so I'm giving it 5 stars! And server was very nice.

In a world of celestial dollar chains, choose your bro. Many Louisvillians do but it should be more. Slight rant over. To the surprise of no one, a HB Highlands location (Mid City Mall) was packed. This worked to our advantage because it gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu. Yes, I know the usual staples but I am wont to choosing seasonal delicacies at coffee shops. Everyone's had coffee. I want to know what makes you special/different. Being the holiday season, I opted for the peppermint pattie cold brew -- to go. It was an unseasonably warm day so getting a cold brew in winter wasn't entirely unhinged. The ordering process was seamless and polite. I paid (for my crew's drinks) and stepped off to the side to wait. After a reasonable amount of time, the drinks were ready. Being that the drink was to go, I didn't have the option of judging it by appearance. It smelled nice, though. As we left and I took a sip, however, something was missing. It was creamy and chocolatey but I tasted no peppermint. Like, none. Which is an issue for a peppermint pattie drink. My palate is fairly discerning. And peppermint is a fairly distinct flavor. I took another sip. Nope. Again, creamy, chocolatey and coffee...y, but no peppermint. Being that we were out the door and down the street (and the place was packed), I didn't return to address it but it was a minor let down. That said, I happily drank the coffee. Rounding up so as to be aligned with the good vibes of the season. Hopefully karma is circular.

Personally, there's a few other a little ways down the road away from the bardstown area that are much friendlier with WAY better coffee. Oh yeah, the coffee was mid. It was just ok. I wouldn't return for it but I'm also not mad about having tried it. So if it's all you have, close, in a pinch, it's good enough.
