A friend and I stayed for a night in early November. There was a smol hiccup with check-in, but we popped next door while we waited for the code. I think had we not been driving for several hours this would've been a non-issue, but it happens and it was resolved relatively quickly. Once we got inside the space was so cool. You do have to climb up a flight of stairs. All the rooms look spacious and ours was the room with 2 beds. We both slept very well. Everything was very clean and comfortable. There was a tiny back patio/porch but it was a bit too chilly for that. If there are any ghosts, they must've liked us as we weren't bothered. A fun little place to stay along Route 66. read more

A cute bed and breakfast establishment. We booked it last minute on a hotel deals website about half an hour before we rolled into town and everything was ready. The experience was fully remote, we called the number given and got a code to enter the door and told which room was ours. We never saw a single person the entire stay, although we did hear another guest talking in their room. I think noise isolation might be an issue if all the rooms were occupied, but there was only one other guest that night, I can tell because the other rooms were vacant with door ajar. The rooms are very clean, unique and do have a pretty deep historical feel to it. I greatly enjoyed the decor and bed was reasonably comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was far superior to the motel that we stayed in the night before. The location is close to a few food dining options in town. There is a vending machine in a guest break room with snacks and drink, but unfortunately the whole machine appears to be out of drinks, which was very disappointing. Overall a comfortable and unique stay, but I wouldn't pay an astronomical price for this experience, probably no more than I would pay for a 3-star hotel. I also would not necessarily return, I think one night is enough. Did not meet any ghosts, which is also a plus I suppose! read more

This place is a historical gem! Tucked right in downtown so everything is walkable. We loved being just a couple minutes walking distance from the Grand Canyon Train which we came to Williams for. This is a cute 4 room inn with self serve refreshments like coffee, hot chocolate & tea. Quiet in the evenings for a good nights rest & easy self check in so you can arrive at a time that works best for you. Would definitely stay here again. read more

There was no staff on the premises, and upon arrival the door to our room was left wide open. While I was inspecting the room, another guest exited his own room, walked directly past me, and entered our room. At first, I assumed he was the host, but he briefly entered and returned to his own room. This interaction was unsettling and made us feel unsafe. We later noticed pubic hair in the toilet, leading us to believe this guest may have been using our bathroom prior to our arrival. This raised serious concerns about cleanliness, privacy, and security. The host later explained the guest was staying an additional night, believed the room was unoccupied, entered to "take a look," and then booked it for the following night. However, the guest was already settled in his room before we arrived, and we checked in well past check-in time, meaning he had ample opportunity to access the room earlier. We have no way of knowing if the room was accessed before our arrival, if items could have been removed that we could blamed for, or if hidden cameras could have been installed. The host stated it was an "honest mistake" and offered only a downgraded room, with no compensation for the inconvenience. The bed was extremely firm and uncomfortable. Overall, this experience fell far below expectations, and I would not stay here again. read more

STAIRS STAIRS STAIRS!!! How did I miss this? For a 75- year- old with arthritis, these are a misery. For anyone with health issues I would not recommend this hotel. ‍‍ These are at an almost 45 degree angle. We stayed in Big Berthas room. The clawfoot bathtub shower is another big challenge for us. It's higher than we're used to but they do have a handicap rail to help you. Thank you! The last negative is the food smells. As they mention, you are right downtown. They mentioned noise and that was no problem but the food odors from restaurants close by wasn't pleasant when you open the windows. Not awful but just be forewarned. OK, bad stuff out of the way! Everything else has been quite fine. Our beds are comfortable, more electrical outlets than I'd expect in an old building, and very spacious! There is even a tiny balcony with 2 chairs which I don't think they mentioned on the website. There is bottled water, coffee and an assortment of teas available in the room next door. The location is convenient to downtown sties and restaurants and within a very easy walk to the grand canyon railroad and hotel. The owners texted back fairly quickly everytime i has a question. We never saw them or any other inn staff. read more

What a gem we found! This place is perfectly located near to bars, restaurants and a Brewing Co. We spent New Years Eve here and drove to Bearizona which is only a 7 min drive. The room was unique it gave a feel of living the past. The team there were exceptional, we received a call before our check-in in order to greet and welcome us. "Who does that anymore!?" We will be returning and spending more than one night as well as upgrading from room #4 to room #1! Check it out you won't be disappointed. read more

The Red Garter is a cool B & B in old downtown Williams, just off the railroad tracks. It also has a fine bakery inside, where fresh baked treats can be has most every morning during the tourist season. Their cinnamon rolls are awesome. An 1890's saloon and bordello. This beautifully restored two-story Victorian Romanesque brick building with 12' ceilings, skylights and antique time period specific fixtures and furnishings captures a true old western atmosphere without giving up the comforts and securities one would expect traveling today. This B&B does close during the winter months (late Feb-Mar) I believe. Comfortable, close and convenient to most all of old downtown - restaurants, shopping and the Grand Canyon railroad station are all within walking distance - most less than a couple blocks away. John, the owner is on hand and available most times - he is a walking information center about this cool and historic old route 66 town. There are four en-suite guestrooms with private baths in the house upstairs, I've stayed in the Mad'am room - a large sky lit room with the original 1890's brass bed frame from New Orleans - the bed is a comfortable nights sleep, the room well appointed, cozy warm and relaxing. My husband and I spent 3 nights here at the Garter Inn. We stayed in Big Berthas room. There are 4 rooms at this Inn and they are all beautiful. You have access to the kitchen for coffee, tea and then sodas and other drinks in the vending machine. You can also purchase snacks from the vending machine as well. They have a refrigerator where you can store your beverages and food if you'd like. The staff is great and very knowledgeable about the history of the Inn. The Inn is haunted and the staff will tell you the stories from other guests as well as their own experiences . We experienced foot steps and other things while staying there. The spirits are very playful and we had a great time while staying there. It's adjacent to the main street as well as all the shops there. A Safeway is not to far as well. Loved the Red Garter Inn! Stayed in the "Best Gal's" room. The decor was exceptional and enjoyed the street view of downtown Williams. Conveniently located in downtown across from the Railroad hotel and within walking distance of restaurants, gift shops, grocery store, zipline, etc. The floors are made of cork soundproofing and are very quiet for a sound nights sleep. Enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Anna's café located downstairs. The cafe's décor matches the hotel. Check-in and check-out was super easy. Atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. Enjoyed use of the community fridge, microwave, and coffee prepared at 6:00 a.m. Super interesting, fun place. Highly recommend! read more

This was my second time in Williams -- and my only "must" was staying at the Red Garter. Previously came with my mom 5 years or so ago upon driving back to LA from Albuquerque and loved everything about it. This time was with my husband of two days (yep, honeymooners) and the Garter did not disappoint. In fact, it only got better. With an unfortunate fire off-site some years ago came the opportunity to gut and redo all four rooms upstairs. The updated rooms are gorgeous and immaculate. Antique furniture, comfortable mattresses, cable TV, period artwork -- they have it all. I especially loved the wallpaper -- each room had a middle border consisting of some period tassels or other fabric. Also, both our room (Madam's Room) and the Best Gal's Room had a place on the wall where graffiti from its days as a bordello had been carefully preserved. Breakfast happens downstairs where the proprietor, John (ask him about the history of the building), or one of his assistants/bakers welcome you and serve you. You have your choice of anything in the case. You can even have seconds... which is dangerous with baked goods this... well... good. First day was a huge cinnamon roll (approx. 8 inches in diameter) for me, gooey and sweet. The guy had a caramel pecan sticky bun which he inhaled -- and then asked for a lemon/cream cheese strudel which we shared. The crust was light, perfect. Our breakfasts were served with slices of melon, grapes, and an orange segment. Beverages were choice of juice and all you can drink coffee, which wasn't bitter and went down perfectly with the pastries. In addition to the period room and breakfast, John has fashioned a great road trip for those who want more out of their drive than the Grand Canyon and back. Our 8-hour drive took us to Walnut Canyon where we saw ancient Native American housing built into the walls of the Canyon; Sunset Crater where the lava floes were amazing; and ultimately all along the East and South rims of the Grand Canyon, arriving just as the sun set for some amazing pictures. In Williams, you can pay for a standard boring room in one of the many standard hotels in town -- or you can pay the same amount or less and stay at the Red Garter, in a Historical Building in the center of town, with free breakfast and wonderful stories. This is my first road trip across multiple states on our way to Oklahoma so only stayed one night after visiting the Grand Canyon but Angie made our stay truly amazing!! Unbeknownst to me my fella had shipped ahead pink daisies and chocolate kisses and candles and Angie made sure the room was made up perfectly for me to be surprised! In the morning I was treated to a full breakfast in bed, (it's included in the room, breakfast anyways that is) my guy brought it up to our room. The whole town of Williams was lovely to walk around and enjoy shops, food, & art!! Can't wait to come back through on our way back home to Cali! read more

Terrific place. We stayed in the Big Gal's Room. John was just as nice as could be and Deb saved our butts numerous times. I had read on TripAdvisor that if you go to the Grand Canyon, try and avoid staying AT the canyon itself. "Go to Williams" someone wrote. I Yelped and found this place. So glad I did. First, it's the cleanest place I've ever stayed in. Just amazing. Comfortable and quiet too. Second, our plan was to take the train to the canyon the next day. Deb nixed it - "it's 85 bucks per person (as opposed to $25 PER CAR at the canyon) and you have to leave at 9:30. Takes two hours to get there and you get about three hours of canyon time, then there's one train back, which gets you in around dinnertime." That did NOT appeal to us at all. We wanted to get up and out. She said, "as long as you're doing that, check out some other sites. You'll have time." So that's exactly what we did. We got up - drove to GC. Took a little under an hour. Spent about 5 hours there. Left, went to Walnut Canyon National Monument. We ran out of time, so we did not see the other sites they recommended, but we will the next time. Ask them for THEIR tour of Northern AZ. Give yourself a day to do that, and another day for the canyon. The boyfriend and I are always compressing our vacays due to work scheds, but this is really worth it. Not to mention, Deb's cinnamon rolls are killer and the boyfriend can't stop talking about them. STAY HERE for your Grand Canyon adventure. read more

Absolutely LOVED this place and my room here. We stayed in the Madam's Room right at the top of the stairs. The room was very clean, cozy, and had all kinds of unique little touches around the room. The building and the rooms have been restored very tastefully and the owners love to tell you all about the process. Breakfast is simple and delicious and is served while the owner tells stories about the property and asks any questions you may have, very friendly people. We can not wait to go back and stay in one of the other rooms. I can only speak for the espresso and bakery part of the Red Garter's advertised services, but what a welcome relief it was to stumble into the lobby early in the morning and to be greeted by that heavenly working bakery smell. Scones, croissants, pecan sticky buns, and muffins all freshly baked and quite literally just out of the oven. Oh, and the coffee was solid too. I stayed at this bed and breakfast while trying to get out of the tourist trap that was the Grand Canyon. It was definitely a relief to arrive here after 7 hours in the car. My girlfriend and I were greeted very warmly by the owners, and the room was much nicer than I expected. Breakfast in the morning was also quite good. The town itself has a lot of little attractions as well, mostly related to old route 66. There's also a rail line that runs outside of the hotel that goes all the way to the park visitor's center on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. read more

My husband and I just spent three nights at the delightful Red Garter Inn. The rooms were decorated perfectly to emulate the ambiance of the 1800's. We stayed in two of the four rooms. The first room was The Best Gals. It had views over the Grand Canyon Rail Road. It had a sitting parlor, bedroom, and bathroom. The second room was Big Bertha's. It had a beautiful balcony you could sit on and enjoy the cool Williams weather. It also had an antique claw tub that was found in the building when it was restored. Each morning, we were treated to a free breakfast at the cafe next door. My favorite was the breakfast burrito!!! It was so good I had it every day! Thank you Red Garter Inn for a fabulous stay. My husband and I stayed here recently (March 2014) for a night after a long day of hiking in the Grand Canyon. It was wonderful! Such a fun place to stay! We were in the Madam's room. It was so much fun to stay in this historic building. We also walked around Route 66 that night (Williams' main street, right behind the Red Garter). John (owner) was very welcoming, knowledgable, and inviting. Sherree (innkeeper, not sure about the spelling of her name) showed us to our room and was also very welcoming. Her mother (can't remember her name) gave us breakfast in the morning and recommended we go to Walnut Canyon cliff dwellings on our drive back. We did - and that was wonderful too. It was fun to talk with her. They gave us coffee and sticky pecan buns. Delicious!!! My husband and I stay in bed and breakfasts when we travel for vacations (which are usually pretty short). This one was *the* most fun! The decor is tasteful but also matches the theme of a late-19th-century brothel in a western town. No unclothed pictures or anything - all very pleasant and elegant pictures. Really high, airy ceilings. Very clean and comfortable. The room was the perfect size for us. If we ever get the chance to have another Grand Canyon vacation, we will definitely be back! read more

We decided to stay the night here on our way to the Grand Canyon because it was one of the first entries that came up on our GPS. I had never stayed at a B&B before and the quaintness and history of the Red Garter was what made our decision. We were oblivious of the ghost history at first. The woman who helped us was very friendly and walked us through the three available rooms on the second floor (where the ladies of the night entertained) and we chose the front room with the fire place. Come to find out, this is the most haunted room in the place! After a non-visited night, we headed for breakfast in the morning. John was very sweet and very helpful. He didn't hesitate in answering any questions we had and was a very entertaining story teller. He made us feel very comfortable and right at home. We will definitely recommend the Red Garter to anyone, and will be back one day! read more

Stayed there for one night. Price was a tad excessive for a weekday night (170$). The ambiance was super cool. Knowing you were staying in a old bordello (whore house). Our room was small ish, but with very high ceilings. The place is one of USA today's places to stay if you want to encounter ghosts. Unfortunately I was not molested by any ghost hookers. Loved this place! We didn't stay here, but had coffee and pastries. The coffee was really good; I only wish I knew what brand they used. Inside the coffee bar was a ton of bordello and Route 66 souvenirs as well as artifacts from the days when this place was a cat house. Spend the night legally in a (late 19th-century) bordello I discovered this place one morning in Williams when looking for a place to grab a quick bite for breakfast. Built in 1897 as a saloon and bordello, the Red Garter is now a bed and breakfast with bakery. The chocolate chip cookies were hit the spot and provided the energy needed to tackle the busy day. The place was exceedingly clean, and the staff were friendly and gregarious. I would like to stay at the inn on a future trip. read more
