I remember thinking that the place itself would be right at home in a suburb such as West End in Brisbane. Laid back, friendly, no hint of pretentiousness, & comfortable. A bit like a humorous housemate right at home in their underpants, a beer in one hand whilst cooking a mean meal. Their mantra of "Food, Booze & Good times" perfectly captures the spirit of this neighbourhood bar. I was immediately drawn to the Taco de Carne listed under "Burgers & Stuff". A soft taco with chipotle pulled pork, trev's salsa & sour cream. 3 Tacos for $15. After one bite i was blown away! The chipotle pulled pork was tender, full of flavour & Trev must be a genius because the salsa was incredible. So good, I ordered another serve. YES another 3! Left absolutely satisfied & slightly envious of locals that i cant be here on a regular basis. While i didnt have "booze" prices appear quite cheap, with beers ranging from $5-$10 & wines from $6.5 - $10 a glass. I've decided this will be my "local" (whenever I'm in Noosa), when i just want great food, & company in my trackies. Get on your bike & visit Village Bicycle in Noosa, on the corner of Noosa Parade & Bottle Brush Avenue.

The hubby ordered the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, & tomato) with a fried egg on a soft focaccia/panini like bread. After one bite, the yolk of his fried egg oozed out like a real bleeder; well done Canteen. He wolfed down his sandwich within 5 minutes and said it was "super yummy". I got the beet salad with baby spinach, ricotta and walnuts. Simple yet so good with the shredded beets and onions. It's a satisfying salad. Hubby doesn't normally eat greens but he cleaned up the rest of my salad too. It was a great meal. Definitely stop by this cute cafe if you're in the area.

Their slow roasted mushrooms and grilled haloumi was delicious!! The mushrooms were perfectly soft and juicy; paired beautifully with the sweet and salty haloumi. Their griddle cakes might be the best I've ever had! Similar to corn fritters, the griddle cakes are packed with juicy sweet corn and a mild heat of jalapeño. Accompanied with all your favourite breakfast sides: crispy bacon, creamy smashed avo and juicy roasted cherry tomatoes- this dish will satisfy your brunch cravings. Finished off with a harrisa aioli, the creamy and spicy sauce adds a flavourful kick to the dish.

There was an appealing char to the noodles, and the lime garnish worked well. It is a small place with only a few indoor and outdoor tables, but is often busy due to its location in Noosa Junction near buses and parking. I had hoped for more, but I'll let them off easy as it's hard to get decent food in this town.

It has to be good, right? When I called to ask them about their menu, they seemed as if they didn't want our business. We decided to go ahead and try it out and so glad we did. My family was visiting from the States and my host father was also traveling with us so we were a group of 7. They were able to accommodate us even though they were pretty packed. You could BYOB! We brought some wine and enjoyed a selection of dishes that we shared. We had the following: Singapore Spicy Noodles-thin rice noodles with chicken, bbq pork and shrimp Penang Char Kway Teow-flat rice noodles with chicken, bbq pork, and shrimp Special Fried Rice with chicken, bbq, and shrimp Beef Rendang- This was supposed to be spicy but it wasn't hot at all. Calamari served on a bed of crispy noodles Pad Thai Noodles with king prawns. This wasn't the best pad thai I have ever had and probably the weakest dish of them all. The 6 dishes were enough for us to share and we were happy by the end of our meal. We ordered a few sides of rice as well. If you want to go to a place that the locals go to, I would drop by here!

The platter is huge, with oysters (probably the best item), clams, mussels, Moreton Bay Scallops, calamari with halloumi (probably the best non-fried calamari I've ever had), prawns (huge and very tasty), shoestring potatoes and a few other things that I don't remember but certainly enjoyed. Also, given their Tasmanian roots, some of the seafood is unique to La Vida rather than what you see at the other restaurants. This platter is definitely worth one of your evenings in Noosa.

Up at Noosa Moreton Bay Bugs are a joy to behold, if you can find somewhere that be holdin' them. Problem is most places want to show off with my little guys and put them in a ravioli or turn them into some kind of foam or do something weird with them so that they aren't bugs any more. Not this place. It used to be called Lindonis I think - thats probably why I am the first to review it. Fact is its been here for twenty years, but for my 200th review I am happy to declare this place serves the best bugs this side of a dirty Chinese kitchen. BBQ'd with garlic and dill butter. Thats all. And eight, yep eight of the little bottom feeders! It takes very good chef to know that the produce is the star and not the cook. I remember an old mate once told me that in French cuisine the chef is the star and in Italian the food is the star. Here the bugs are the stars. We shared a plate of crumbed calarmari and a plate of veggies, which, because this place is classy, was called a 'stack'. The calarmari was sensational, even though it looked like the sort of meal you'd get at a suburban Pizza joint. I asked why they were so good and the owner told me they were fresh caught, marinated in kiwi fruit for just long enough to tenderise them but not so long as to cook them and that the crumb was a special Japanese technique known only to direct descendants of the Samurai Emperor Bugsansei. And I believe her. Left my phone at home 'cos up here you eat in boardies - your good ones for upmarket places and your old faves for the other places. Keeno has some photos which the kids may be able to upload to this review. I shouldn't even try or I will break something.
