My son started here with trial classes. Sensei Daniel was very patient when teaching him. He also had Sensei Nevaeh assist with instruction and she did great with him! My son didn't want to participate during the first few one on one trial sessions but when he tested to earn the white belt, it went really well. His excitement changed when he put on the karate uniform. My son now looks forward to coming to class. we joined red dragon karate in upland because my boyfriend's son joined red dragon karate in chino hills where they live. Thought it would be nice for the kids to have something in common. I went back and forth on putting my daughter in the chino hills location but decided it was too far of a drive to do constantly since we're not always in chino. First thing I noticed about Red Dragon Upland was it was a run down building. Not very clean. The mat they perform on is a felt like material that can't easily be sanitized. And it's always hot in there so think of all those sweaty feet on a felt/foam mat. I have literally been there when one of the toddler students peed on the mat leaving a large wet spot. There is only 4 plastic picnic style chairs inside for you to sit on. If you're not one of the 4 lucky parents to get one of those crappy seats then you have to sit outside with absolutely no view of your child. Being inside just means you have to smell the stench of feet for 30 minutes anyways. They seriously need to air this place out and invest in some glade plug ins or something...parents would mumble to each other about the stench on hot days so it wasn't just me smelling it. They have a broke down shoe rack that they could easily replace for no more than $10 but they don't. So every week when you go you'll see this sad sad shoe rack and you'll see this gross lonely sock on it that was left months and months ago. I literally saw this sock EVERY class and thought to myself "do they really think after all this time someone is going to come back and claim it....JUST THROW IT AWAY" but nothing else is really clean there so I doubt they even noticed this sock...which is sad because they moved the shoe rack outside everyday SO they had to be blind not to see it. And then moved it back inside everyday. It is a group of teen boys that run this place though so it makes sense why everything is the way it is. Anyways after months and months and months of talking myself into it that this place was worth it because I didn't have to drive all the way to chino I finally had enough. My daughter hadn't moved up from the very first solid yellow belt. When I asked about it they said she could perform in a Tournament which of course cost over $100 or more to participate in and then she would automatically advance to the next belt. And the next belt of course would cost ANOTHER $25 on top of the $129 monthly class fee and $150 tournament fee. Meanwhile down in Chino my boyfriend's son in the same amount of time has moved up several belts and hasn't had to pay any additional fees besides the $25 belt fee. AND they have a very nice air conditioned airy studio with vinyl mats that I've watched them sanitize. A small seating area with enough faux leather chairs to fit ALL the parents. Their classes also only have 8-10 students so everyone is able to get help and attention. Whereas in Upland there is 15 to 20 kids per class making it impossible for any one student to get real help since classes are only 30 minutes. BUT HERE IS MY REAL COMPLAINT...I called and gave my notice to cancel. My daughter stopped going. We haven't been to a class since July. They didn't charge my credit card in August. So I assumed I was done with Red Dragon Karate. Then I find out that they charged me September, October, November. read more

I am a 58 year old women. I came to Red Dragon Karate because I noticed that my balance, muscle strength and over all fitness had declined. I was starting to feel like I was getting "older," and not able to do activities like I used to. I have a gym membership but my gym closed. I hardly ever went there anyways when it was open. I wanted to do something different. Something fun and a little challenging to keep me interested. I went to Red Dragon Karate to see if they offered a Tai Chi class. I spoke to Sensei Daniel. He explained that Red Dragon is a mixed martial arts studio. That sent up red flags! I didn't want to be a cage fighter! lol. I just wanted to regain some fitness. Sensei Daniel said that he was confident that he could work with me at my level of fitness and ability. I had back surgery a couple of years ago and I have knee arthritis. I told Daniel that I was concerned about hurting myself trying to do mixed martial arts training. That I didn't think Red Dragon Karate would be a good fit for me. Daniel very encouraging. So I signed up to give it a try. I really didn't think that I would be able to do it or be able to advance through the belts. I just wanted to start moving my body again so hopefully my health and fitness didn't continue to decline. I started lessons and all the instructors were very patient with me while I learned and helpful in adapt some of the moves that I couldn't do at first. I really enjoy going to class. Fast forward, I have now been going to Red Dragon Karate for a year. It is amazing how much range of motion I have regained! I move better and have less aches and pains. I can kick and jump now! I couldn't do that before. I have been able to test and pass two belts! That helped motivate me to lose 20 lbs! I feel better than I have in some time. My oldest son who lives in Idaho commented how much better I am getting around when he saw me last. My gym is open now. But I am having much more fun doing mixed martial arts! On the plus side. Nobody better grab my purse. Grandma can kick a little butt these days! read more

My son & I have been at Red Dragon now for a couple of years. We started off taking the martial arts class, which is, mostly, Okinawan Karate with some Kung fu & Aikido thrown in. We slowly incorporated their sparring class into our schedule & THAT was a lot of fun. There were several intermediate & advanced students that we otherwise wouldn't have had a chance to train with. Getting a chance to actually spar with them was something not lost on me. Now, we're taking their kickboxing & fitness class & it's probably the best workout I've had in years. Tom Cosgrove is the Shihan (head instructor) & is a source of great information. He's a very patient man & can definitely help one achieve their goals, be it in fitness, martial arts, or both.
