I think anyone who enjoys Austin and wine seriously needs to try the Red Devil Rides wine tasting tour. It's a great deal for what you get and it's an awesome experience. We got to do it by chance though, and I'm really glad we did.
It actually started off as a Christmas present for our parents and we were pretty upset when they went to redeem their pedi-cab wine tour gift certificate last week. At first their certificate info was lost and then our parents told us that the not-included gratuity would end up totaling $60+ but that they didn't mind covering it. My husband and I would have preferred to pay ahead of time and bundle that into the price of the gift certificate though. Then the day of the tour, they got stood up at Paggi House. Reservations hadn't been made and no one came to get them. They made the most of the situation and later found out that something terrible had happened. Red Devil Rides was quick to reschedule though, and offered to give them another tour free. Our parents asked to bring my husband and me along instead and we were pretty excited.
So last night started off at Paggi House. And since it was happy hour, we ordered a couple extra appetizers for half price (on top of our included cheese plate) and it was a great time. We tried three different champagnes and then met our pedi-cab drivers out front. They were really friendly and super fun. After stopping by the Long Center so we could get some pictures of the skyline, we went to Trio at Four Seasons for another wine flight and an appetizer per person. By the time we got to Cru, we were pretty full, but that didn't stop us from enjoying several more wines. On the way back to our cars at Paggi House, our pedi-cab driver regaled us with stories about bachelorette parties and he even serenaded us!
All in all, it was a fantastic night out and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something fun to do for a special occasion. They apparently do better with booking exact dates than with dealing with gift certificates, so if you do choose the gift certificate route, make sure to keep good records. Other than that, prepare to kick back and enjoy. I'd never done anything quite like this before and would definitely like to do it again in the future. read more
