Went in during the Bourbon event. Sat at the bar and got ignored for at least 10 min. Had to flag down the bartender who kept passing by us. Ordered a beer and then a pizza. You have to fill out a form for your pizza. Waited about 25 min and had to leave without getting the pizza. Terrible service. Won't go back. read more

This was a nice brewery in Opelika. It was very large and spacious at both the tables and the bar area. There was one guy working the counter taking drink and food orders when we came. He was very helpful. They make pizzas in the back that you can custom choose your toppings. So it was a nice place to go when it's late out and you want food and beer. read more

Go here for beer and vibes. Not food. We ordered the pretzel with cheese & the mustard. It was the strangest mustard I have ever had. It was more like, a little cup of water and peppercorn with an oddly sweet aftertaste. 0/10 on the mustard. The beer cheese I was actually impressed with how weird it is. I don't know how you can serve ice cold cheese, that hasn't congealed. The pretzel itself, nothing special and would never order again. read more

Came here with my friends as he had a beer tasting for 2 through Groupon but his wife didn't want to do that. So he and I had tastings of 5 different beers (ea). They bring them out one at a time and go from lightest to dark. Lots of seating at tables and the bar too. Then guys working here have amazing knowledge of beer and wine and will chat with you on what things you like to find the perfect match for you. They have merchandise for sale like tshirts, car stickers and other items. I really enjoyed the Southern Bumpkin and Big Swamp. As a Floridian, we don't have fall weather so I'm not a fan of drinking fall brews like these in hot weather. The weather up here cooled a bit when the rain came in and these were the perfect two to help me feel like it was fall. I should've gotten a growler to take back home w me. They also make pizza here too. You pick your size, crust, cheese and sauce. I didn't order one but I did see the guy next to me had and it look pretty good. Love that the railroad tracks are right out front and got to see a train hauling train cars full to the top of coals. A tick off my bucket list! The area's sole brewery, Red Clay Brewing only opened up in downtown Opelika about 9 months ago, but it seems like it's been around forever and is a fantastic addition to the Auburn-Opelika area. Cheers! It's set up in an old warehouse but isn't so big that it's impersonal. When I was there, staffers were setting up holiday decorations; it's a family operation. Through big windows in the main space, you can see all the brewing equipment in the back. It doesn't seem like there are any tours, but I'm not sure. There are several TVs mounted on the walls, and if you're not into the tube, I spotted a big pile of games that you can play. And there's ping pong too! For a small brewery, Red Clay has a respectable variety of beers that you can choose from. I counted 11, plus root beer. Not too shabby at all. The bartenders were welcoming and willing to let you sample whatever you wanted. No flights, but you can get half-pints ($3) if you don't feel like a full pint ($6). In my party, the complex MacKenzie's Scottish ale ended up with raves, and the Big Swamp stout (nitro) and the Hop Jubilee imperial IPA also were winners. I finished my half-sized Southern Bumpkin sweet potato brown ale which if you know me, says a lot in itself since I am not a beer drinker. The brewery is going to pursue distribution in Georgia, so I'll be looking for Red Clay brews in the Peach State. If you want to hang out on the roped-off front patio, you can watch trains go by, play cornhole, and take in the fresh air if you're not too close to any smokers. Red Clay is also right next door to John Emerald Distilling, so you could make it a very boozy outing if you're so inclined. I am not a brew pub drinker but attended an event here with a group and it was nice. The person behind the counter told me it was ok to get a whiskey from next door and bring it in. I looked at the food they were serving and it looked great. It is a loud place but a place with outdoor seating and was someplace that I would frequent if I lived closer. read more

I think "Meh. I've experienced better" sums up Red Clay perfectly. As far as craft breweries go (and I've been to probably 50 in the U.S), Red Clay has the most unmemorable beer. It's just not good. However, the environment is pretty good and it's never crowded. I usually can walk up to the bar and grab something in a pinch. I'm really ready for the new brewery to open in downtown Opelika and finally give these guys some competition, maybe it will get better. If you are willing to drive about an hour either way down 85, you'll find better beer at Common Bond in Montgomery, and Wild Leap in LaGrange. read more

I have never felt so unwelcome. No one greeted us as we walked in and the bar was empty. I left my dogs outside and was told they could be left unattended in a very rude way as I was watching my son inside the brewery. As Lee County natives that moved to Austin a few years ago RCB staff were very generous with samples to ensure we were happy with our beers. We thought we'd like several, including the Southern Bumpkin sweet potato ale and the Half Time hefe, but we settled on the Lake Side cider and Alabama Snakes IPA. Loved this local brewery! We sat outside at the picnic tables out front with wonderful 63 degree weather! We tried the Southern Bumpkin (sweet potato brown ale) which was delicious and fall/wintery. We also had the River Defender (session IPA) which was a good light crushable IPA, and the amazing Murder Creek award-winning Cherry cider (3rd in the nation!). We had the Greek pizza for lunch which was delicious on a wheat-like crust--so yummy! Definitely recommend stopping by Red Clay for the interesting beers and unique flavors! Loved it! Just a note, they do not do flights but kindly offer samples of all of their offerings! They also offer wine bottles for sale, so we are looking forward to trying the Merlot we purchased ($15). read more

Finally went back to give them another try with some of my buddies. Honestly, I don't think these guys are even trying to properly sanitize their equipment between batches because the off flavors of these beers range from novice inexperience to "someone sneezed in the wort". Turn around, walk back out the door, and head to the nearest store to grab yourself some proper microbrew because this stuff is truly sub-par. Maybe a change in staffing or training could lead to an improvement in the final product, but I don't see these guys making the extra effort any time soon. read more

The beer is pretty good, there isn't any denying that. It's the only brewery in town so there isn't a whole lot of competition. I like the cozy, open atmosphere with a decent selection of board games. Outdoor seating is definitely favorable when it's nice out. I love how they are supportive of community events/weddings/local music groups, etc. but it seems whenever I go, they raise the prices which can be a deterrent. Especially when trying to plan meeting places with students... $6.50 for a pint plus tip can add up quickly. Also, they are almost always out of several beers. Overall, I'm glad that Red Clay does well, though, and I enjoy the experience while there. Ample parking opportunities helps in Opelika, too. It ends up being a place I may take visitors when in town but don't frequent as often as I would otherwise. read more

I've been to many breweries and tasted a lot of good beers -- Red Clay ranks up there with the best of them. They have a good rotation of craft beer for every taste bud and they also offer food if you want to chill out and relax while drinking some of the awesome beer. I had their "French Tippler" the other day and it was amazing. The owner and staff are friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. I didn't know Red Clay Brewing existed until I went to Opelika to visit a friend. He recommended that we meet at Red Clay Brewing. Business was light on the Friday afternoon when I visited, but it was before five o'clock. The staff was nice and courteous and explained all their local brews to me before I made a choice. I went with one of their local porters. It was smooth and had a great taste. I sad outside with my friend and enjoyed a beautiful Friday afternoon. A crowd started to show up before I left. It's awesome! I love that a place like this has opened in Opelika. The beer is good, but what I love is the creative spirit and passion of the brewers. We enjoyed talking to them about the process, the decisions they make, etc. It's in an old cotton warehouse and feels like it. I suggested they get some comfortable seating in addition to to the tables/chairs, and Kerry told me they were working on it and would have it soon. This would be the perfect place for an event.
