The interior is just like the demeanor of the staff: warm, likeable, and feels like home. In fact, it was incredibly difficult to determine where we wanted to dine, because of the sheer cuteness found in the decor and ambiance of The Grumpy Mole. It was just too damn nice outside to take a beautiful, sunny day in England for granted. So, we opted to sit on their patio and enjoy a near perfect day. Knowing how delicious the curry is in the UK, I opted for that choice and my high expectations were met. The chicken was tender and well prepared. The curry flavor was abound but not overpowering, while the naan and rice were soft, not stale. But the real highlight of the experience was the charcuterie plate packed with meats, cheeses, olives, and more. If only I had the fortune to return to England more often, then I would visit The Grumpy Mole on every visit. For now, I will dream of that day and hope it is on a cold, winters night, where the interior of the Grumpy Mole is cozy and warmed by a crackling fire place, of which I am sitting by while sipping on a piping mug of cider.

Yes, they were busy, but after our plates came, no one came to check on how we were doing, which I thought unusual, as I'd have certainly said something then. It was almost like they were too afraid to ask whether the servings were satisfactory as they quite clearly weren't and we weren't offered the usual pleasantry of a 'Enjoy Your Meals' from the waitress either once our plates were laid. In the corner and forgotten about, I got on with lunch, begrudgingly. Desperate to make eye contact with a server to say something, we were left to lunch. Surely, no one puts baby's food in the corner and expects me to get on with it? Good job I was poured the pacifier of a decent dusty Bordeaux. The service wasn't unpleasant, unlike the mushy meagre veg. Service came with a smile but you can eat smiles can you. So by the time they remembered to clear our plates and take our orders for dessert, noticing nearby tables tiny sized servings, I made sure to ask for more charcoal crackers with the local cheese as they seemed a scattered presentation point, not for actually eating. Not this girl though. I'm not a heathen. I'm not going to eat cheese with gay abandon, when the slate has been abandoned by biscuits. They kindly obliged. However my friend's other-half's half-thimble of custard with the crumble was a poor show again. I hope their servings aren't an economical attempt to fob people off with nouveaux cuisine style sized small portions, as the quality isn't up to it and it's also 2016. Tiny sizes are also so Masterchef 1998 along with 'jus' of this and 'stack' of that. For a pub dinner, these sizes didn't stack up and I came a very long way for this. On foot, so surely I won't be the only Hangry customer if service continues like this.

Such a pretty setting, with a colourful garden in the front and back. The inside was amazingly vibrant and quite crowded, despite the quiet location. (Even on a Monday!) Clearly a very popular place! We came here for a special lunch on Monday 9th June, 2025, with my two elderly "aunties", and it didn't disappoint. In fact, the whole thing was a success. The atmosphere was lovely and the welcome and service was warm and friendly. I had the apple and parsnip soup, which was absolutely delicious. Everyone wanted to taste it! I then had the homemade chicken and leek pot pie, which was fabulous - a lovely thick, crunchy crust with fresh ingredients and fresh side veggies. For dessert, I had the sticky apple and blackberry pudding! (A nice summery twist on the traditional sticky toffee pudding) And it was every bit as good as I'd hoped. Served hot with piping hot custard... The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating, and were very patient trying to get the best photo of us all! Wandering outside to get some fresh air, we admired the large beer garden at the back, and my husband and I went on the swings! Very peaceful out there, with the antique tractor at the back, and the view over the field of daisies. Lots of lovely colourful hanging baskets of flowers in the front too, and I loved the foxgloves planted right by the painted sign "The Fox Revived"... The whole thing made for a very memorable and enjoyable time.

I was also pleased to see root beer float on the drinks menu - ahh, nostalgia when I ordered it Food-wise, I started with the mozzarella salad which was beautifully plated but strangely failed to wow my palate. Perhaps a bit more dressing would have provided a contrast to the mini mozzarella balls and tomato. Also, the advertised toasted pumpkin seeds were missing from my plate and would have added some crunch. A good idea with good mix of ingredients but needs a little tweaking For main course, I had a lovely robust spaghetti sausage carbonara. The weather was a bit cold and wintery and the solid carbohydate base of pasta, meaty sausage and bacon covered but not swampedin a cheesy sauce was a great antidote to the chill outside. I did struggle to pick up the advertised lemon zest but I don't think it was ever going to stand much of a chance against the other ingredients I was also very impressed that my server sorted me out a small (and cheap!) side order of deep fried courgette as I wanted to try it but didn't want the £4.25 starter portion size. It's nice to see when restaurants are flexible for their customers. They were nice but I do have to give the edge to the version at Two to Four restaurant across the road A solid 4 stars with a lovely variety of meals available from cakes to more substantial meals

Quick glance: + great for children's parties / families…read more + fun Western-themed decor + spacious, with outdoors seating + lots of car parking space - beers don't come in pints (!?) My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Smith & Western after a 5-hour hike in the Surrey HIlls near the Box HIll area. We thought it would be great to end our long trip with a pint before we head back home and so we visited Smith & Western, which is very near the Box Hill Visitor Centre. The outside looks like a giant wood cabin, surrounded by ample car park space. The inside was very busy with wooden sculptures, US car plates, US flags, and various other "American" and "Native American" decors. It felt as though a tornado has lifted a Texan saloon into the Surrey Hills. The staff were dressed like Texans, with black cowboy hats, a white shirt and bolo tie. My boyfriend asked for a pint of beer, at which point the waiter kindly pointed out they only come in half pints or two-pints, confirmed with "it's an American thing" and a shrug. (I am from the states, and I was both baffled and bemused!) After much deliberation, my boyfriend went with a botle of Sol and I had a mojito. The waiter took his time, crushing the drink with great care and minutes later handed me my cocktail. Even though service was slow and the experience amusing, I must say the mojito is one of the best I have ever tasted. We sat outside with our drinks and could hear kids singing happy birthday inside. As soon as we sat down there were a table of four children behind us chomping down peanuts as their parents try to round up the fifth one stomping around the wooden patio. We got the gist that the place is very popular with large famlies and kids parties. The drinks (esp. beer and cocktails that comes in jugs) are aimed at a party atmosphere for both children and adults. We didn't try the food but would recommend this place if you are planning a big, rowdy party for kids (daytime) and probably adults (night time).
