I'm always suspicious of restaurants like Chilli & Spice, which don't display menus in the window…read more However, in my restaurant trawl of Dorking, I ate at Chilli & Spice despite this little shortcoming. I received a warm welcome and got a pleasant surprise when I looked at the menu. Instead of a nasty shock with high prices, I found that the menu was actually full of cheaper prices - my Chinese Thrift Gene was happy! Munching on the obligatory popaddom, I was interested to see that they offered all the condiments separately at 50p each. This was more honest than the usual compulsory charge for all different condiments. I settled on reshmi kebab as a starter, mainly due to curiosity by its description as a meat patty in an omelette. It was quite a novel way to serve up a kebab - the meat was flattened into a patty and served inside an omelette. The meat was nicely flavoured and if I had a bun, it could even have been turned into an Indian version of a McDonalds egg McMuffin burger! For main course, I settled on a meat (lamb) methi, a side of sag paneer (Indian cheese and spinach) and some pilau rice. The methi was heavy with fenugreek and lots of fresh herbs and vegetables, confirming that it was cooked from fresh. Unfortunately, the big portions defeated my stomach and I was unable to finish all my food. A lovely meal but a word of advice to put their menu up in the window

Very Oily . No many vegetarians options Main course : there were lots of typos in menu . After ordering Sag paneer and "Motor paneer" . We couldn't find a single piece of cottage cheese (paneer) in it . Curries were sweet . Being an Indian, I really don't understand why this restaurant has put sweet in the curries . After our dinner, I got diarrhea and tummy ache. Sorry but would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.

My salsa partner in crime Hilary was unable to join me dancing tonight, so I went out on the…read morepre-salsa food search on my own this evening. Dorking is a nice little traditional market town in Surrey. So, when I saw the sign for Dorking Brasserie, I was thinking perhaps it would be a little French bistro or perhaps an English restaurant. Nope - it's an Indian! The staff do make a great effort to make you feel welcome throughout your visit though perhaps there was a slight overuse of the phrase 'my friend' whenever talking to me. I had the pbligatory popaddom while perusing the menu. The only slight disappointment of my evening came with my rather watery mango lassi, which didn't really have enough mango flavour for me. Being a litle greedy or perhaps indecisive, I had the chef's mixed starters - the plate arrived with an onion bhaji, a little kebab, a butterflied prawn and a samosa. These were lovely if a little filling. Fortunately, I had restrained myself in ordering a small curry. I settled on a mathi gosht, described as a meat curry cooked with herbs. The menu states that they're very proud that their curries are cooked from scratch with fresh herbs and you could spot these in the finished product and also taste the different layers of flavour. The meat came with lots of onion and fresh herbs in a thick, rich sauce. I left for dancing, happily fed but wondering if a curry is the most sociable thing to eat before getting close to dance partners on the dance floor!

Quality/Quantity - What a great find, and this review shows…read morethe positive power of Yelp. We discovered this local restaurant through Yelp, and so did the other 2 tables next to us. We found out at the end of our meal that one of the other tables was also from our hotel, a mile walk away. Overall, I think a simple menu done well. We got everything they recommended including the recommended beer from the table next to us. Plain Papadum & Chutney Tray - A must try! Suggestion, these two items should be together on your menu to avoid any confusion on pricing. The sauces also went well with our entree and naan. Tandoori Mix Grill - Good, perfect amount for both of us. As mentioned previously, we are light eaters, especially when traveling. This entree also came with a very light simple salad. Garlic Naan - I can eat this all day! This could even be my meal. After Dinner Chocolates - A nice unexpected touch. Atmosphere - Small local restaurant. Bathrooms need some TLC, but are functional. Indoor/outdoor dining; everyone ate indoors today. Open 7 days a week. Service - Good, had all 3 wait staff help us. This kind of confused us. They were good at upselling, but all 3 team members tried to upsell us. Not in a bad way, but it kept me laughing. I am a light eater, especially when traveling. They all made light small talk which was nice. It was obvious that everyone eating here was NOT local. They also have online promotions, see their website. Price - 28 pounds + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success, I am so glad that you can benefit from Yelp. See you on our next visit as we were so happy with our hotel we plan to stay there again.
