After a 6 mile hike in the hills of Surrey to specifically to find the legendary roast that the Langton had us hoofing it over fields and dales for; I wasn't impressed by the single nubbin of carrot, the soggy Yorkshire and the too few over boiled pieces of parsnip akin to what one would wean an infant on, on the side of what could have been something spectacular since as the meat was moderately good.
Yes, they were busy, but after our plates came, no one came to check on how we were doing, which I thought unusual, as I'd have certainly said something then.
It was almost like they were too afraid to ask whether the servings were satisfactory as they quite clearly weren't and we weren't offered the usual pleasantry of a 'Enjoy Your Meals' from the waitress either once our plates were laid.
In the corner and forgotten about, I got on with lunch, begrudgingly. Desperate to make eye contact with a server to say something, we were left to lunch. Surely, no one puts baby's food in the corner and expects me to get on with it?
Good job I was poured the pacifier of a decent dusty Bordeaux.
The service wasn't unpleasant, unlike the mushy meagre veg. Service came with a smile but you can eat smiles can you.
So by the time they remembered to clear our plates and take our orders for dessert, noticing nearby tables tiny sized servings, I made sure to ask for more charcoal crackers with the local cheese as they seemed a scattered presentation point, not for actually eating. Not this girl though. I'm not a heathen. I'm not going to eat cheese with gay abandon, when the slate has been abandoned by biscuits. They kindly obliged. However my friend's other-half's half-thimble of custard with the crumble was a poor show again.
I hope their servings aren't an economical attempt to fob people off with nouveaux cuisine style sized small portions, as the quality isn't up to it and it's also 2016. Tiny sizes are also so Masterchef 1998 along with 'jus' of this and 'stack' of that. For a pub dinner, these sizes didn't stack up and I came a very long way for this. On foot, so surely I won't be the only Hangry customer if service continues like this. read more
