Time to go get some books! And where do I go? Barnes & Noble of course! Here is my experience:…read more When I walk in, I see tons of books, bigger than a regular library (a local one). The service greeted me in, and very nice people, they give out recommendations to people on what books to read. I have read the whole Wings Of Fire Set in 4 months (lol) . They have a large variety of books. Fiction, nonfiction, novels, cookbooks, fantasy, mystery, any genre you can think of, will be at Barnes & Noble. A place to get some coffee as well, at their Starbuck's in Barnes & Noble. Like I said, the people are very nice, they give you discounts on paying on specific for Starbucks in Barnes & Noble for a whole month to use it on for. Like a school calming corner.... Their worth and values are great! The books are great. Everything's great!

I'm literally writing my review for Barnes & Noble while sitting at the cafe inside this very…read moreBarnes & Noble. It's actually why I'm here today. My husband works in Beaumont and while he's out making the big bucks, I'm enjoying bucks of my own - Starbucks. I decided to bring my laptop today to get a little writing done and get caught up on some of my Yelp reviews. Two days ago I walked into this Barnes & Noble for the first time. I noticed a sign out front that they were hosting a book club on Wednesday night (that's TONIGHT!). The book was unfamiliar to me or I'd have been here tonight discussing this book (it looks like a good one too!). My Barnes & Noble doesn't have a book club, so I was really impressed to see that here. The store is clean and looks like any other Barnes & Noble. The layout actually looks a lot like the one near my house in Buffalo. It feels like home. There aren't a ton of customer service people, which could be because I'm here at a slow time or on a slow day. Or maybe they're understaffed. But I will say the store is organized in a way that makes sense, so if you're a book-lover, you probably can figure that part out. If you're shopping for a friend and aren't much of a book person yourself, you may want to get some help. But that shouldn't be a problem. I'd like to think that if someone is working here, it's because he/she loves books. Book lovers are really nice people. :) One of the benefits of shopping at Barnes & Noble is that when you check out, your receipt comes with some book suggestions on it based on what you just purchased. Those can be some great recommendations! And if you're a member, there are great savings there as well, which also transfer to the online store. Plus, you can use your membership card to save in the cafe, which is good because it does not take your Starbucks card/app. The cafe here is staffed by really friendly people and there are plenty of seats in here on a Wednesday afternoon. I don't see a ton of outlets, but there is one in the back corner by the garbage can where the threshold joins the cafe to the puzzles & games. My experience both times I've been here has been positive. I'll probably be spending a good bit of time here for the next couple of weeks while I'm in town, and when I come back again in November.

The lady that works the front tried to accuse me of not paying for some books literally less than a minute after paying her. Never stole anything in my life and spent quite a bit of my hard earned money on comics and citadel paints from here over the years. Being treated like a thief in front of other customers and lack of apology just doesn't sit well with me. Definitely not going back!

They have some of the best stock in the state and the friendliest attitudes of any game/comic hobby shop in Texas. I have a very good friend who was affected by the recent flooding in East Texas and he recount this story to me: "Friday night I went to Book Stan, no big deal now since I am staying in Beaumont/Nederland for the moment. Miss Beverly knew I had lost 99% of my books and cards and some of my miniatures had been stepped on because they floated around the house. And the Friday before she told me to stick around and offered me a discount on the books I felt like replacing....being soft hearted as I am I cried and she gave me a hug and told me she was going to help me. I came in Friday and looked on the new stuff shelf like I always do, and when I got to the counter, I started to ask her for 2 of the books I had set aside to buy. She said I got 2 problems, first the discount I told you last week, Terry said it wasn't good enough and doubled it. And second I talked to Games-Workshop and they have given you money to help replace your books and the miniatures you lost....." I hear stories like this from all of my friends that go to Book Stan, its a fantastic hidden gem of nerdery in East Texas, the only problem I have is its so far away that I can't make it a daily trip.

I have to admit that I was a little more than apprehensive about stopping in this town to check out…read morea game and comic book store, the area has a history.. Yet, what I found at the Lyons Den was anything but what the stereotype of a town darkened by past events. The Lyons Den was a friendly, welcoming haven for gamers, geeks, nerds of all walks of life. The store was well stocked with product and I'd arrived on a 'Free Comic Book Day' event where a lot of the stores regulars dressed up as their favorite iconic super hero or villain. There were smiles and laughter from everyone around and I was welcomed. They had guest artists in attendance for the event signing autographs and doing one of a kind art upon request. Later they had an intense and well attended Magic The Gathering tournament and are even listed on the national rolls. They make ample use of the space in the store with product from floor to ceiling and covering a wide arrange of mainstream and independent comics as well as games, cups, shirts, banks, hoodies, hats and almost anything you can think of. They're linked to several distributors so if there is an item you've been looking for, then they can order it for you. The Lyons Den seemed like an awesome place to chill and have a good time for anyone and everyone. Its made me happy to know there is a small island in the midst of the area's history and to know that everyone is welcome. The visit here was due to looking for a potential out of print item and sometimes smaller game stores tucked away in small towns can hide surprising treasure for a gamer like myself. This trip was well worth it for the experience alone.
