So I ordered the food and it was pick up only but they had everything I was looking to order and it had a few good reviews so I ordered. I thought it was a little expensive but if the food is good I don't mind. So when I got home I noticed the portions were very small and the food was at best average so I wasn't very happy and wouldn't go to this place again.

Happy Garden seems like an oddball place. Cash only and no delivery - things which have been…read morementioned by others - but also in general. So, this is weird: do you know how almost every Americanized Chinese restaurant has scallops in at least one of the "Chef's Specialties" dishes, but not generally available with the shrimp (and less frequently, squid)? This place does. I'm new to the area, and maybe that's a regional thing, but I'm unaccustomed to seeing it. Also bizarre: the Shrimp Toast is guaranteed to be 100% toast free. How is such magic possible? By seemingly mixing breadcrumbs into the shrimp paste mixture, rolling it into a ball, and deep frying it like a hush puppy. It tastes great, but it's not what it claims to be. I ordered the above with egg drop/wonton mixed soup, which was delicious, and beef with Chinese vegetables, which was not. There simply wasn't very much flavor, and the use of canned sliced mushrooms (also unusual to me) really detracted from this staple dish. I didn't like them when my mother used them on her gross meatloaf, and it turns out that 30 years later, I still find them disgusting. But, when all is said and done, I would go back for the mere convenience of the location and to try a few other other things. The "Chef's Specialties" section of the menu is somewhat limited, so it shouldn't take many visits to complete the picture, and when I have an opportunity to try the fried dumplings, I'll have a better idea about the restaurant. For now, I would call it average. I'm always tentative about new Chinese spots, and this one didn't scare me off.

If you're craving classic Chinese takeout done right, this spot absolutely delivers. My go-to order…read moreis the sweet and sour chicken with house fried rice and a pork egg roll, and it never disappoints. The sweet and sour chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It's not overly heavy, and the portion is generous. The house fried rice is packed with flavor. And the pork egg roll? Crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. It's the perfect side to round out the meal. Everything always tastes fresh, the portions are solid, and it's exactly the kind of comforting Chinese food you want when that craving hits. Definitely one of my favorite spots when I'm in the mood for sweet and sour chicken and fried rice.

I think all Chinese places use the same gravy recipe...lol *Sesame Chicken - The chicken was fresh and nice-sized pieces, but the sauce they used to make it was a bit too sweet - less sugar in the recipe would have made all the difference - Also I couldn't find any sesame seeds on the chicken? Sounds picky, I know...but I like it when they cover the chicken with 'em! Oh well! *Shrimp Egg Rolls - They were just average and a tad overcooked, to be honest. *Fried Scallops - Not much flavor and not very tender - I'd skip those if I were you! LOL! *Egg Drop Soup - Every single time I've EVER ordered this from ANY other Chinese place, the soup has a bright yellow color....This soup was actually a dark yellow color, which was disturbing. I tasted a VERY small amount and it was pretty nasty, not gonna lie! I think it was day-old soup and I discarded it. AVOID IT!

Soup was definitely ok in a pinch but the amount of broth given was lacking. There was like a half inch of empty space in my quart container. Seriously? You're skimping on broth?? It was not really Pad Thai noodles, but vermicelli noodles cooked with chicken, onions, eggs, and water chestnuts (it did not come with baby shrimp as their online menu said). The sesame chicken was more on the bland side. Additionally, when I had called, I asked if the chicken in the pad thai could be replaced for wheat gluten as their online menu said that most chicken or pork dishes could be, but the woman who answered did not know what I meant even though it was on their website, until another person got on the phone to inform me that they could not make that dish with wheat gluten.
