This has been a go to record store for me since I have found it. I was recently given 100+ CDs from someone who did not want them anymore, and since my partner and I did not think we would put them to good use we decided to try and and trade them in for credit because we collect vinyl records. The first place I thought of was Record Outlet, but I wish I looked elsewhere. We were not even acknowledged when we walked in and it seemed as though the owner did not even want to look through our stuff. In the end he took only 7 CDs and immediately said "that will be $5 cash" without even offering the possibility of store credit. Not to even mention that that was definitely a low ball. Luckily we asked, but it seemed as though he did not think we deserved any ounce of respect. It is sad because I have spent a lot of money here and wish I never gave them my business. Respect and kindness are two of the most important characteristics in any person, so I would think a small business owner would know that as well but apparently not. read more

Great store! and a lot of records in a smaller store...I will often find what I am looking for and for a good price. Sure, not as big as Amoeba but will have some of those hard to find records for a decent price where Amoeba charges a lot more. Plus Amoeba is too far to go. A local shop that has been around for 20 years. They sell used and new vinyl, cd's 8-track, cassettes, movies and a lot more. Don't forget the free bin! You can get new belts and needles here as well. They usually have what you need in stock. The employees are very knowledgable and friendly. KC, the owner, does a great job fixing tables and stereos too! I have spent soooo much time and money at this store! I am sad that i had to move to az but i always call up to see what came in and stop by at least twice when i visit home. I never leave there without spending money. I can always find something there i want or need. I have been to most the other shops in the area (Salzers, Grady's record refuge (another great store), american pie records, and a few in SB and SFV and hollywood) but i will always come back to Record Outlet over the others. My boyfriend and I love taking coastal road trips and hitting all the record stores and thrift shops we can find along the way. I am happy to add The Record Outlet to our Hwy 101 itinerary! The store was recommended by Grady's, owner of one of our favorite Ventura record stores - Grady's Record Refuge. The place isn't that big but they have a lot of stock and understock and the prices are reasonable. Moreover, their new arrivals section is filled with gems and some nice surprises. I bought the (in)famous Bruce Springsteen Live 5 LP box set in near mint condition for $8, what a steal! The young man behind the counter was super sweet and very helpful. We are definitely coming back again on our next road trip. read more

And his prices are below all the other record stores I've been to in the LA area which must be a good 12 to 15 different stores within 50 miles of here. This is a great location if you're looking for common titles and don't mind spending $5 on most records. I have found some cool gems, but unless you're collecting mainstream bands from the 1970s and 1980s you might be hard pressed to find that particular record. The nice thing is Record Outlet maintains a steady inventory of multiple copies so you have plenty of options if you find an album you like. Let me preface this review by stating that I'm not a "collector" in the way that most people who probably shop at record stores are collectors... I buy vinyl that I want to listen to, but don't have the money to buy every album that I would like to own. However, I have found several things that I have been looking for in this great little shop. The albums are usually in the $4-5 range, except for new items of course. I have bought some Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Cat Stevens, Beatles, amongst a few others. I've had lots of luck finding classic Christmas albums lately, like Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Burl Ives and Nat King Cole. The guy who works here is very helpful and when I've asked about particular albums, he's been able to check their extra stock and has found some for me. And what's with the name-calling and criticizing a guy who works in a record store for being too chill? Isn't that kinda like saying "That barista at Starbucks was just too hyper!" I love this little store, it's great for a kinda-collector like me. And I'm thrilled it's in my town. We might not have any indie bookstores in TO, but at least we have Record Outlet. read more

If you collect vinyl or getting into the hobby, this is a great place to spend a good hour or so of your time. This spot usually has decently priced audiophile gear and a good mix of 45s and LPs (except rap & funk). Just recently, they started bringing in some of the same popular, sealed reissues that you can find at Barnes & Noble or Urban Outfitters, at equal or better prices than the aforementioned. I've noticed some discs in there that have seen better days but overall, Record Outlet prices reflect that condition. I've purchased immaculate looking vinyl at this place for reasonable prices as well. Side note: They dont have a dollar bin but they do have a $4 bin, sometimes filled with a couple of gems. Record Outlet is a great place to find inexpensive used vinyl - probably the best in Ventura County. It's not always in mint condition but playable and wide selection. Very friendly staff that will help you find whatever you're looking for. They also carry some new vinyl and used CDs. The occasional turntable is also available. Great place to find vintage vinyl at a reasonable price. They also carry newer vinyl, and can order any new records you are looking for, if they don't have them in stock. They also repair turntables, reel to reel, 8-track players, and scratches on CD's. They also buy used CD's, music equipment, and vinyl. Parking is also easy to find. Don't come here if your looking to sell your Barbra Streisand Vinyl collection. ;-) read more

This record shop is so cool! Epitome of what a "good" record shop is! The owner/employees are extremely friendly and know SO much about music and the stuff they stock. Super helpful and patient! They also play really interesting music in the store too, which adds a nice atmosphere. I easily killed an hour looking through the rows upon rows of LPs they have here. They have great prices and deals! Slightly cheaper than other stores in the greater LA area. They have lots of 45's, CDs, cassettes and even 8 tracks! I loved that they have a large selection of LPs for classical music and jazz. They also have two turntables where you can test the LPs before you buy them which is really an awesome feature. I am not sure if it's a permanent thing, but they have a freebie bin you're allowed to pick through when you make a purchase. I found some really good CDs to take home! What a blast this little shop is. Actual records ! Vinyl ! And a ton of CD's and even cassette tapes and the odd 8 track and VHS. Decent record store around the corner - sort of a dying breed type of place. I've run through this store for years, finding weird old records to chop up and sample. They've got a good selection when it comes to jazz and classic rock - definitely have to get dirty and start digging to find some gems. Nice that record store exist's still but they offer nothing for quality stuff brought in. I brought in about 20 lps including Iron Maiden picture disc's/eps, an original cover of Scorpions Virgin Killer LP and other pictures disc's of other bands and original LP's of others. He offered me $27 for them. I guess he doesn't know anything about hard rock music. I thought he would offer me over $100 which I would have taken. I'm glad he didn't I got $127 on ebay alone for the Scorpions LP and over $70 for the Iron Maiden ones. Just saying think twice before selling anything to them you may get far more selling them yourself. He offers you way under half what they are worth. read more

The basic review for this place is 4 star for the casual,non discriminating record buyer and 2 star for more serious collectors.They have a pretty good selection of regular catalog rock titles,but rarely ever any collectible records (sealed,WLP,Japan pressings or other imports) Prices are among the cheapest around but you best check the vinyl because a lot are in rough shape,not to mention beat up covers. The owner is nice and been in the biz a long time but rarely speaks unless spoken to.The owner and/or the kids that work there are frequently in the back room as other reviews have noted and sometimes you have to go get them when you are ready. The main problem with the store is that it is always a complete mess with records & boxes literally all over the floor (making it hard to walk around),there are dirty cracked bin divider cards and the bins are packed way to tight making them difficult and unpleasant to look through. The interior of the store is old and ratty too. Needs a complete overhaul and they should clear out a bunch of the poor condition records to make some room in the bins and get stuff off the floor. This is the kind of store where if they ever have any bags for your purchase they give you used plastic bags from the supermarket. Seems like the owner,while a nice guy,is just going through the motions at this point and isnt putting much effort into what could easily be a nicer store. read more

The Record Outlet is where my obsession with records first began when I was a youngin'. This is the perfect place to find fantastic records with even better prices. In addition to having an array of classic rock records and 45's, the Record Outlet is a great home to Punk/New Wave/Reggae/Folk records. I live on East Coast and KC (the owner of Record Outlet) is on West Coast. He helped locate an older Mono pressing, but one of his very best customers beat him to it. KC was very gracious just the same, and I informed him if ever in the area, that I would be there to introduce myself. Again, he was most humble and gracious.
