It's a small shop that specializes in vinyl but they have some CDs, too. Many of the CDs are in boxes stacked on other boxes so unless you plan on reorganizing the boxes, you might be stuck just looking at the CDs in the top box. That's what I did and I still found some gems. The vinyl selection is very good and you will probably find some good stuff, if you dig around. They have some tapes, too, but please tell me you don't buy or listen to tapes. There is street parking or free parking garage across the street. This is a smaller location with lots of records and CDs to choose from. The used CDs and occasional unopened CDs are reasonably priced. It will take a bit of time to find items so drop by when you have time. It can be a bit crowded which makes it hard to move around. The service is good, if he isn't busy he will help you locate a specific artist request. There is an added fee when using a credit card. read more

It seems like every record shop in Ventura is terrible. There's no exception with Jockamo. Another run of the mill boring record shop with nothing of value to offer. Beatles records that are readily available at literally any other record store for $10-15 are $40 here. The owner never brings in new collections. The bins are full of records that have been sitting for 3+ years. Don't waste your time coming here. Owner is very sarcastic and rude as well. read more

Easily one of the coolest stores I've ever visited. Jockamo Records is located on the outskirts of downtown Ventura and offers a bit of solace to the craze just a block or two away. It's located across from a large free parking garage and is in a cleaner part of downtown. It offers great frontage onto the main road but still feels like a small boutique. I stopped by here the other day with a friend who lives nearby. There were a few staff members and they were all friendly from the get go. We were greeted warmly and were offered assistance. I enjoyed the personalized experience. The record selection is downright impressive and there is a little something for everyone. The records are broken down into genres and were all neatly catalogued in alphabetical order. I took a close look at the classic rock selection and was amazed at how many artists I could find. They had them all - and the prices were very affordable considering you're investing in an antique. I didn't purchase anything but did gain a new appreciation for old records. I may have to acquire a record player for myself and if so, will most definitely do business at this awesome little shop. read more

Also, had terrible service and rude remarks the entire I asked questions. Wouldn't recommend anyone to go here and buy as prices are marked basically new for used items. I bought a record there that was listed for $50, i was too excited about finding the record to look into it. I flipped it over later and found a sticker that said $30. I'm not sure if that's how much it was listed before he got it or if that's what he paid for it, if he even did, but a $20 jump for a small business is weird. Jockamo Records is a neat corner shop with an intimate, but by no means limited, selection of records. I'm always drawn to the jazz section and the "new arrivals" crate across from the counter. Most recently I picked up a very clean Little Wings record, a stellar folk band tough to come by on vinyl, and a gorgeous original pressing of early Sarah Vaughn. The owner, Dave, always offers up a slab of stellar suggestions. One of the first records Dave suggested I listen to was "Cry Like A Baby" by the Box Tops, and now I pick up every single Box Tops' record I come across. Focus is another great suggestion handed down to me form Dave. There is always a diverse selection of new releases and used *ready-to-be-rediscovered* gems. Although there aren't dedicated listening stations, they'll happily pop a record on for you. That's how I first heard King Crimson! I highly recommend popping in to Jockamo Records, whether you're a local or simply passing through. It's in a sweet location, nestled between the Pier and Main Street. I benefit from working and living within walking distance, so I often spend lunch breaks and Saturday afternoons in the store. read more

It's tough on record stores nowadays, so it's nice when new ones open. I was glad to see Jockamo Records in downtown Ventura. It's quaint, has a homey feel, you feel like you're in somebody's house and browse through their collection. They have a bit of everything- CD-s, DVD-s, vinyl. Don't expect the biggest selection in the world. Just a nice, inviting vibe. OK prices. Nice addition in the area, cute store. read more

6 récords for $45!!! What a steal!!! If you can't find something don't worry the guy working has a list of everything in the store they also sell a-track and cds. The store is clean which I like, it's just difficult to look through the records that are on the floor they definitely need more space but maybe that's why it feels like home in there actually pretty cool. read more

Really cool new(er) spot. I stopped by Jockamo a few months back on a small road trip and was pleasantly surprised with what I found. The store may seem small and the collection may seem limited , but just look around. I doubt you'll leave disappointed-or empty handed. While Jockamo definitely has a small selection of newer music but where it shines is older stuff. What I saw was a really strong selection of rarities and older pressings.If that is you're thing, it would be stupid not to come in here. Dave, the owner, was incredibly nice and knowledgable. He knew his stuff and wasn't pretentious at all. After only a few minutes of talking to the guy it was clear how much care Dave not only took care in his store's collection, but also the people came into the shop. I was on the fence about buying a particular pressing of an album in the store because for a few silly reasons, and the first thing Dave did was jump on the computer and find out some info for me. The guy also knows the store's inventory like the back of his hand. It's pretty remarkable. I also found prices to be very reasonable. My idea of "cheap" is somewhat slanted given that I live in Los Angeles, but regardless I didn't blink on eye when I saw the cost of the record I purchased. Great selection - maybe not the hugest selection, but also no garbage copies for $2 that no one is going to buy because they're marked as "bad" sound quality. Really healthy jazz section. Guy behind the counter is super nice. Bought an album, asked if he could hold it for a few hours while I went to be a tourist around town. Picked up a copy of All Things Must Pass (with the original poster) and Tea for Tillerman. Unfortunately the latter is a duplicate in our collection but c'est la vie. Browsed through looking for that elusive copy of Astral Weeks and anything by the Mighty Sparrow but no luck. Saw a copy of Equal Rights in good condition but couldn't justify the price although prices seemed okay for the 2 items we did buy. I checked out the going rates on discogs and though we overpaid a bit I feel we got a fair deal. Very curated selection and don't have to sort through too much junk. A little off the main drag in Ventura, which in my mind is a plus. Found street parking around the corner and there is a huge parking garage across the street. read more

It looks like David Peters with his Jockamo Records is doing a good thing in downtown Ventura. This is an important mix to a retail trail that seems to be mostly restaurants, bars, dress shops, second-hand shops + a couple of book nooks and collector shops. So please welcome this music spot to bring in a new theme to the area. In the last few years we've seen a renewed interest in the vinyl LP and the growth of Record Store Day each April. While that event celebrates the release of new records or new reissues of old music classics, I've always been partial to vintage (used) vinyl. Jockamo's has both. So music lovers stop in and get a flavor of recorded music the way-it's-suppose-to-be. No I don't want to ban the digital down load but really there's nothing like plastic and card board sleeves. Small, clean, good music on the TT. Nice (real) jazz bins. Good blues finds. Price-wise I'd have to say he's not *giving* away his items - though I'm not opposed to finding a bargain in a junk store or at the flea market; but if I see an intereting LP I'm willing to pay something for it for my collection. I've been through Grady's Record Refuge, the Wednesday flea on the Fair grounds, and the basement of Bank of Books. Now I can add this haunt to my travels. I think I picked out about four items ranging in price from 5 to 18 dollars. Yes he has a dollar bin and a TT if I've convinced you to give this LP thing a try and come back to the grooves! ("But I don't have a record player!" No excuse. The store does.) I can't judge how often the stock is re-freshed - I suspect I'll see more items as the weeks go by. I may not be a very typical music buyer - the Beach Boys are fun, jazz & blues is the history of America, odd/rare spoken word, sound effects and STEREO demonstration records can clean out your ears. I'm not looking to buy a record worth fifty on eBay for 5 so I can do a quick turn-a-round investment. Records work because records work for me. LP sleeves are an art form to be enjoyed. Liner notes are literature. And I'm sure not EVERTHING is on CD or YouTube (though I'm surprised every day.) So from the POV of an experienced, everyday record bin hopper, thanks Jockamo. This is a small record store in a nice location in downtown Ventura. They were fine with us bringing our little dog inside. We were looking for some newer indie rock and hip hop that they didn't have, but they have a good selection of classic rock, jazz, etc. We did buy Fleetwood Mac's album Rumors. read more
